With battery or external power, this light is nice and versatile. A good deal of light delivered close to a working surface, such as for fine electronics work. The only negative is that even with batteries installed in the base, the position of the light head is limited since the light can tip over.

This lamp is very compact and provides good illumination in a limited area. I find it perfect for lighting up the keyboard. It provides much stronger light using the USB connection than it does on battery power. Attractively designed and useful for its intended purpose. Amazon's price was a bargain.

We used this light/exhaust fan to replace a recessed light above our shower. Home builder didn't install an exhaust fan in the bathroom because it wasn't required by code. This product the perfect solution for removing the steam from our shower. I installed it myself after removing the old recessed light. I had to cut the existing hole in the ceiling drywall @ 1/2" wider to fit the light in the same location but the trim baffle covered this up so no drywall repair was necessary. The only reason I had to do this is that the exhaust duct can't be mounted directly against the joist since you need room to clamp the exhaust hose onto the fan. (Design-wise, placing the fan and exhaust duct at the end of the unit seems to be the most efficient use of space.) The unit is quiet and removes the steam from our shower so we no longer have damp walls after using the shower. I highly recommend this product! Also got a good deal at Amazon (@ $15-20 less than Lowes or Home Depot.)

This product greatly improved the bathroom feel after you get out of the shower. It feels drier and there's less steam on the mirror.

I removed the existing recessed light and replaced it with the Broan. It fit in perfectly in the existing hole and the ability to mark and install the nails before you slide the extendable arms on them was a huge plus since I was close to the edge of the attic making it almost impossible to install if I had to place the unit in position first. I hooked up the vent pipe and existing electricity line (switch will run fan and light together) and it worked great without any breaker tripping.

I had to pay extra for other accessories to make it work and have it up to code. It adds $75 to the cost, but I got a great price for the Broan in Amazon and the total was $155. Here's what you need to add:

GFCI breaker for the breaker box. It eliminated the need to cut holes and install the GFCI switch in the bathroom.

PAR30L Halogen light (75W).

Insulated exhaust tube.

Tee to install tube to existing exhaust tube (I didn't have the ability to install a new exit hole in the side of the house which is better to do, and cheaper).

Of course you need your usual tools like a hammer, cutter, nails, duct tape, pliers.

Best Deals for Broan 744 70 CFM Recessed 75 Watt Bulb Fan/Light

I have installed 6 of these light/fans in my new home. They are generally high quality but quite noisy. 1.5 sones was the quietest rating available of any ceiling-mounted fan at the time of purchase. The only component of these fan/lights that is not of the highest quality is the reflector which is made of plastic. The use of compact fluorescent lamps will minimize potential heat damage/discoloration to the reflector.

If you want a quiet fan and cannot access your attic, this fan is recommended. However, if you want quiet and your attic is accessible, I recommend spending the additional time/money installing an inline (remote/attic mounted) ventilation fan such as Panasonic FV-10NLF1 WhisperLine In-Line Ventilation Fan for Single or Multiple Inlets to minimize the noise. (Note that this small inline fan exhausts twice as much air as the Broan 744.) A 5-10-15-30 minute timer (such as Woods 59007 Decora Style 30-15-10-5 Minute Preset Wall Switch Timer, White, 30-Minute) to control either fan is a luxury you can't afford to be without...

Honest reviews on Broan 744 70 CFM Recessed 75 Watt Bulb Fan/Light

I read a lot of reviews about this Broan 744. I'm going to base my review on the questions I had and knowledge I gained from installing this exact product.

I purchased one of these from Amazon and also had a brick and mortar store price match amazon since at the last minute I decided to install 2 fans. I mention this, because Amazon has the best price as of me writing this review for this product.

My house was build in 1985, and I was installing 2 fans on the upper floor bathrooms. I installed them by utilizing the attic crawl space to accomplish this. I only mention this, because somewhere along the line I read a review somewhere that made it seem like this unit could be installed from inside the bathroom. Maybe it can, but you will have to do some extensive drywall repair if you do so. So my review is based solely on my experience with my exact install.

Other than the fan it self, you will need a 4 inch ducting tube to route the air to a roof air vent in your attic. I also purchased a role of foil tape, as duct tape will get dry and brittle in time. The foil tape is used to attach the 4" ducting tube to the 4" outlet on the Broan 744. I also purchased 14 / 3 wire to power my Broan 744 from an existing Fan Light in my bathroom. And a GFCI breaker for my power box in my garage.

Since the Broan 744 was an additional fan/light for my bathroom, I got my power source from a fan/light that is already in my bathroom that is positioned over the toilet. I installed my Broan 744 over my tub. I purchased electrical wire that is 14/3 wire. Meaning, 3 wires and 1 ground. For my application, I am essentially running my fan in series which means I'm using my new wire and tapping into the exact same wires in the fan that is already installed into my bathroom and then leading that wire over to my new Broan 744. I have 1 light switch in my bathroom that controls the light and one switch that controls the fan. Wiring it like this allows for both fans and lights to work in the exact same way. Fan switch turns on both fans, light switch turns on both lights.

For me the wiring went like this.

Existing wiring in house / Wires coming out of Broan 744

Copper Ground to Green screw mounted in case ( you can't miss it )

Red to Red (this is for the light)

White to White ( this is the neutral)

Black to Blue ( this is for the fan)

I measured and located where I wanted to install my Broan 744. I put a little mark on the ceiling and then used a wire coat hanger to push it straight through the ceiling so I could find it in the attic. I have spray in insulation, so it's a bit of a chore to clear it all out to prepare your working are. I located my coat hangers and determined that I could use the space provided as I didn't have any issues with studs in the ceiling.

You will need to cut a 6 1/2 inch hole for your Broan 744. I am taking all the guess work out of it for you, if you cut a good 6 1/2 inch hole you will be happy with your install. There is a brown piece of cardboard that is in the box that is designed for new construction purposes as it blocks the hole so that nothing gets in the fan/light if the spray texture or paint. That templet is 6 1/2 inches around I traced that onto a new piece of cardboard and cut that out and then used my 6 1/2 inch templet I created to trace circles on the ceiling to signify where I needed to cut. I used a plain old drywall saw that I bought at brick and mortar store for $6. And it worked perfectly. I was able to saw a perfect circle following the lines I drew on the ceiling. So have confidence that a plain old drywall saw will work perfectly fine.

Some reviewers complain about a noisy or rattling fan. The instructions state to crimp the slide channels once it's installed. I'm gonna teach you a trick. put the support arms into the slide channels before you crawl into your attic. Use a big screwdriver to crimp the channels down on the support arms. It will make it tough to slide the support arms out in order to position it, but it's not impossible to move them and you'll eliminate any possible rattling noise that the support arms could possibly make. I had a roof about 2 feet over my head where I was installing, so crimping the slide channels while laying in insulation and not trying to fall through the ceiling was going to be a major chore. I highly recommend crimping it before you take it up to the attic.

The instructions call for a 1/8" gap between the Broan 744 and the drywall. I accomplished this by taking a paint mixing stick and cutting it into 4 pieces. I positioned the Broan 744 over the 6 1/2 inch hole and and then gently lifted each corner and slid the paint stick under it. It is now 1/8 inch above the drywall ceiling. I then extended the support arms out until they touched the ceiling studs and used drywall screws to hold the support arms to the studs. once it was supported, I slid the paint sticks out and wallah, it was hovering 1/8 inch above the drywall ceiling. This keeps the fan motor from vibrating on the ceiling.

I purchased PAR30 bulbs and discovered I really need PAR30L bulbs (for wet climates). A short or medium neck bulb will work, but I recommend a "long neck" PAR30L bulb, it works better and in my opinion, allows more air to be sucked out. I mention this, because I believe the "long neck" bulb allows the fan to work at peak performance and it's not really covered anywhere that I read.

To install over a tub, the easiest fix to make it "legal" and completely safe is to install a new breaker in your power box. You need a GFCI breaker. Every power box is a little different so I won't go into details very much. But if you pop out your breaker and take it to a place that sells breakers and show them what you have and tell them you need the GFCI version, they should be able to help you out.

I have a couple pictures I'll add to the pictures with some notes if it helps anyone.

It's really not all that tough to do, it does take time but the reward is great once you have completed this project. Also, don't forget to turn off your power when doing any wiring. My review isn't meant as the "how to install" it just covers some tips and answers the questions I had prior to installing this in my own house.

I rated this product 4 stars and not 5 stars simply because the instructions could be a little more detailed. The product itself is a 5 star product based on what you're buying 1.5 sones, 70 cfm. Obviously there are better fan/lights out there, but not at this price. The product does work great and it really lights up the shower. Thanks to the light, I can definitely see that I need to eat a little healthier and probably do a sit up or 500.

Good luck.

I am an engineer who has been completely disgusted with the home lighting situation. There are no standards and many misstatements and counterdictions at the stores. I own a Minolta flash meter which accurately measures a lights color temperature. I've tried the bulb technology at Walmart, Sams Club Home Depot and Lowes. The most glaring examples:

1) yellow light is called soft white (2700)

2) very blue light is called daylight 6000-6500)

3) 12W LED lights go for as much as $90!

4) Some bulbs are advertised as white but the chart on the back shows its yellow. Complete incompetence.

Here is not what to avoid: all (harsh washed-out blue) daylight, and (yellow) soft white. While GE Reveal offers somewhat better clarity its still overpriced and quite yellow.

Full spectrum (5000-5500) bulbs are a step-up but stores offer a very limited selection. The Home Depot full 100w spectrum's beats the Lowe's Ot-Lite. The best compromise are the PAR38 indoor 23-27w 3500K reflector lights (which actually measure 4100K) especially for kitchen spot lighting.

On the LED front Sam's Club carries a 520 lumen, 4100K, 9 LED PAR38 reflector which has a easily noticeable smoother light spectrum. Great for the one light on in the kitchen in the evening. The equivalent $70 LED lights at the hardware store are hardly a bargain, as the Sam's is $20! However its Color Retention index (CRI)is only 74.

The best of all are lights are these 5500K Alzo's. I've installed a 45w in the kitchen pantry and the color of the food boxes really pop. Food looks like it does in the magazines. The clarity is first rate (however 27w should be sufficient). They are the reference to which others are to be compared. My wife has not complained even when they are on at night-time. This is a first.

Skin tones in the bathroom look very natural. A first again.

Color temperature alone is not the sole basis to buy a bulb as a high CRI is also required. The Alzo's come in at 92, which is very high. Most manufactures do not even list this measurable figure (assume because its too low).

Well gotta go as my wife wants one in her closet now, as shes hates the other fluorescent lights which cause eye-strain.Should I install a 45w and blow her away?

They came individually packaged extremely well. I had problems in the past with the screw base of CFL's not going deep enough in the socket. I have a variety of fixtures I needed these to fit in and so far, no problem, after they warm up (about 5 minutes in extreme cold). These have saved me a lot of money even from the start. I am lighting my shop with them instead of tube lights and fixtures. I am installing them 5 feet on center and the coverage is great. The daylight color reflects great off the white ceiling. For this purpose they work better for me than the warm color CFL's. They are brighter than a 100 watt bulb, very little shadowing on my projects.

No real complaints at all. I bought this versus the clamp on type because I can use it anywhere I can find room to set the base. The base is nice and heavy and has the footprint of about an 8 ½ x 11 inch piece of paper. I've had clamp on types and they are a bit of a pain to keep fastened tightly to the table or counter in my experience. I'll be more prone to drag this from location to location because I don't have to fuss with the clamp.

Pros:

* Nice heavy base

* Arm stays where you place it

* Decent real glass lens

* Low temperature does not heat up my small room

* No 60 Hz hum at all perhaps solid state devices with no transformer

* Nice wire management... internal to the metal arm tubing

Cons:

* A tad bit pricy, but you get a real glass lens

* Illumination is a very hard white as you would expect from a fluorescent bulb

* Bottom of base need could use some padding or at least some wider feet to distribute the weight over a larger surface area. It may dent or scratch soft wood surfaces.

Great lamp!I had been using an Ott magnifying lamp, but was having a problem with the small usable magnification area. The Ott lamp has only 1 light bulb at the rear of the magnifier. The professional quality desk magnifier lamp has a circular bulb which provides great lighting to the entire magnifier area. Circular bulb=no shadows cast by your hands or tools. The base is nice and heavy, the arm is adjustable and stays where you put it. My only complaint is that the feet on the base are metal and not smoothly finished. They will scratch your work surface if you move the lamp without picking it up. I put mine on a rubber mat-problem solved.

Best Deals for Professional-Quality Desk Magnifier Lamp - 2.25X Magnification

I bought this lamp in order to see the small electronic components for soldering onto PC boards. My work area is actually more of an office desk with a glass top.

This lamp arrived in an Amazon box containing only another box and some packing paper. Just gotta have that Amazon logo showing! The lamp was packed well in the inner box, wrapped and in molded styrofoam, in 2 pieces: base and arm/lamp.

The base measures 8x12", and is quite heavy at 8 pounds, centered more near the front than the back. The bottom is black plastic with exposed round-head screws. The top and sides are made of white plastic, molded to form feet on the corners and middle of the sides so that the screws don't damage the surface on which the lamp sits. However, this means there is a very small surface area that the lamp actually sits on, so on a glass-topped desk it slides quite easily. Also, in a rough environment it might be easy to damage the thin plastic feet (think of a vertical sheet of plastic more than real feet), which would send the lamp rocking with no easy fix (other than to sand the other feet and perhaps affix a base covering of rubber or fabric). Since I don't expect to be moving the lamp much, nor is my environment rough, it should work fine for me. However I will have to place a rubber mat underneath to keep it from slipping.

The reticulating arm is made of metal and works well. One thing that I didn't like initially is that the rotation of the bottom joint near the base is of limited movement. However, if the lamp is placed near a wall this limit keeps the arm from digging into your wall, and the arm has a large movement area still, so it doesn't seem to affect performance. The arm has a spike that sits in the base, and a plastic-knobbed screw-in pin secures the spike in place from the rear (this is part of the base). The arm has approximately 30ยบ of swing from the base.

The lamp is mounted to the base on a rotating ring, giving the lamp the ability to rotate into the desired position. The ring assembly is pressure-mounted to the arm, with a knob to adjust the pressure (with detents) so that the lamp can be vertically angled. The lamp is easily positioned. A black rocker mounted on the top of the lamp assembly is used to switch power.

The lens cover has a molded plastic stop to keep it from falling down while you're working. It definitely leaves a small gap when covering the lens, so expect a small ring of dust around the edge of the lens. I'm sure I'll be cleaning it often enough because of solder splatter that it won't affect performance for me.

The magnification is great for older eyes that don't see small details well, like the printing on surface-mount components. I measured the focal distance to be right up against the glass to about 4.5" below it. If you'll need to have your work farther away than that, this lamp may not work for you. The distortion quickly gets painful to look at with work beyond 5". However, your eye position can be at any comfortable distance and still see well; the limit is for the under side.

The lamp is a circular fluorescent, and it is nicely covered in a clear acrylic plastic, which for soldering work means I won't have any solder splattered on the bulb itself, and is easily washable.

Finally, the cord is long enough to reach from mid-desk above left, around the back of my desk, and back to the front-right floor area underneath where I currently have my power strip (we electronic workers are always un/plugging things).

Although I don't like fluorescent lights (they give me headaches when shone directly into my line of sight), the fact that the light is shining away means I can comfortably work with this lamp. I may look for an Ott-light bulb or similar to give full spectrum, but overall I'm going to be very pleased with this purchase.

The only things I think could be better are a factory-installed rubber base cover to prevent slippage and scratches, and of course a lower price (which pretty much applies to everything).

Honest reviews on Professional-Quality Desk Magnifier Lamp - 2.25X Magnification

I purchased the 8606D-D 5D desk magnifier lamp for my work bench. Upon installation on my work bench, I connected AC power and proceeded to examine the product. My test reviled the following:

The lamp has an arm with two adjustable limbs. The lower limb, which mounts into the 8"x12", 8 base, is almost fixed, moving only about ~ -30 deg from vertical [abt. -1.0"]. The lower limb however is NOT secure, even though there is a screw on the back side to tighten. The adjustment pin, after about 5 turns will tighten almost hitting the base. It NEVER prevents the pin from leaving the base. The almost fixed lower limb greatly reduced the flexibility of the lamp. It basally rotates about a point with the reach of 23" maximum.

The upper limb moves over a wider range ~ +30deg/-26deg. from horizontal. The lamp is top heavy so, you might have to add additional weight if you plan to operate it at maximum reach.

The base will scar a surface when moved thus, you will have to visit you local hardware store and purchase four ½" feet to prevent movement and scaring it surface.

The fluorescent FCL-22w lamp is bright and shadow free. You will have a problem finding a replacement the lamp. The installed lamp is made by Osram® and cost almost twice the price as other common circular blubs. The lens cover has a molded plastic stop to keep it from falling down while you're working. I now feel it's a gimmick and has no practical use.

The instructions, I use the term loosely, are a joke and appear to have been written by a 4 year old.

The lens is very clear and bright. Not sure it is worth the money! Purchase at your own discretion!

I do a lot of wood carving and was finding that at times (e.g. chip carving) my old eyes just didn't see as well as I would like. I researched several self standing magnifyers and decided on this one. It arrived in great shape and I've been very happy with the build quality. I bought it for the glass but am suprised how much I enjoy the light. A lot of the time, you have to worry about shadows when carving, but with the light from above, I don't have to turn on the overhead lights at all! Glass quality and focus distance are good. The fixture remains where I put it and the base is well weighted and nicely shaped. I use the base to hold my knives. I highly recommend the product.

These lights are great. I acutally went and bought one of each of all the competitiors and put them in the room and then my wife and I both rated them. These were the run away winnersit wasn't even close.

I installed them as a repalcements to incandesceants. We do use them with dimmers. We can virtually not tell a difference in either the light they provide or the way they work with the dimmers (I had previously replaced lights in the house on dimmers with CFL's and other LED's and not gotten the same results).

I like new technology, but recognize that it can take a while before the price gets where you want it to be and the function is really 100%. Price is a personal decision, but in terms of functionality and performance, these are the grail of category. If you are waiting for a low operating cost alternative to your incandescentsit has arrivedin my opinion for the first timein this product.

I put these in high use / high profile areas of the house where I had been previously unable to find low operating cost light that I was satisied with both the light and the dimmer function. The changed that opinion and I have installed 8 in the house so far.

I gave them 4 stars not 5 because the installation could be easieronce I figured it out it was OK but it took a while and they simply did not fit in some fixtures in the house.

Additionallyover the last year I have replaced nearly all of the light bulbs in our house with CFLs or LEDs. We are seeing a very noticeable reduction in our electric bill$25-$35 a month.

I purchased these to replace both some Incandescent and CFL floods mounted in recessed ceiling cans. I ran a test using a Kilawatt Meter, a Photographic Light Meter, and my Canon EOS 5d MKIII. I measured watts consumed, light output in EV (Exposure Value) at 1 meter, and Color Temperature in Kelvin. I measured Color Temp by photographing a Neutral Grey Card and checking it after with Adobe Lightroom. I suspect the results are slightly high or cool but as I mention below, good for comparison.

Keep in mind I cannot vouch for the accuracy of any one device but all bulbs were tested under exactly the same conditions, so at the very least the results are relative. For example I think the Kilawatt is under reading a bit on the lower end, and my Color Temps are a tad high, but again think relative. Also when measuring light in EV think Richter Scale, it's logarithmic, an increase of 1.0 is a doubling of light. Also EV is comparable to LUX or luminous flux(Lumens/sqft) and NOT Total Lumens. Total Lumens is a measure of the total light output, which would depend on projection angle, and light intensity from edge to edge of projected surface. However if the bulbs have similar projection characteristics we can make a mild comparison of light output using Lux.

Also note that there are two versions of the Cree floating around, a 9.5W and a 10.5W. I went to Home Depot and dug around and found a 10.5W for comparisons. The boxes give exactly the same performance specifications with the exception of Wattage. I'm not sure what the difference, I can only assume one precedes the other.

My house line voltage is 121.5V

65W Incandescent R30 Flood

Power Consumption= 63.6 Watts

Light Output EV = 6.9

Temp = 2850K

14W Warm White CFL R30 Flood

Power Consumption = 14.0 Watts

Light Output EV = 5.8 (WOW! Half the light of a 65W Incandescent?)

Temp 2800K

10.5W CREE Cr6 LED 6"

Power Consumption = 9.2 Watts

Light Output EV = 6.7 (Same as 9.5W?)

Temp 2700K (The warmest light by a small amount)

9.5W CREE Cr6 LED 6"

Power Consumption = 8.0 Watts

Light Output EV = 6.7 (Same as 10.5W?)

Temp 2900K

75W R30 Incandescent

Power Consumption = 72.5 Watts

Light Output EV = 7.2

Temp 2850K

Conclusions?

The light output of the LED was not quite the same as the 65W incandescent, but not bad. I'd say it is closer to a 55 or 60W equivalent. Again in terms of light output think of it like a 6.9 earthquake versus a 6.7. There is a difference, but for me the real difference was with the 75W Flood, it offered up noticeably more light. Unfortunately that is the majority of what I am replacing and when unfairly compared to the 75W, there is substantially less light with the CREE. I think that a CREE LED of higher wattage and light output would be welcome in those situations where you really want a 75W equivalent. As for the 9.5W versus 10.5W? Light output was basically the same for the 10.5W and 9.5W, with the exception being the 10.5W was slightly warmer than all bulbs in the comparison. I would seek out the 9.5W version since it used 1.2W (13%) less power for basically the same light output.

My biggest surprise was the CFL. It performed very poorly in my opinion, much worse than I expected. With basically half the light output, the slow start up, you have a light that is not very desirable. I will search around to see if I have some other examples as this one may have been an especially poor performer.

Overall I was impressed with the amount of light that could be produced for under 10W. I would say we have passed the point at which LED's can be competitive, we just need the prices to come down a bit more, and a few more options for greater light output. The CREE is a good replacement for 60 Watts of R30 Flood Light, not quite the Standard 65W, but close. So close that the power saved is just too hard to ignore. Say you have a finished basement with a dozen R30's. Flip the switch on with the Incandescent floods and your Electricity Meter is going to spin noticeably faster. With the LED's it's doubtful you could even detect the difference. 12 R30's x 8 Watts = 96 Watts. Wow, that is a big jump in efficiency.

Using them with the Lutron DVWCL-153PH-WH (or DVCL...no plate) dimmer; full range dimming with no problems and no buzzing.

Honest reviews on QTY 4 / Cree Cr6 Ecosmart LED 6 " Recessed Light 9.5w 35,000 Hours

I have purchsed about 50 Cree lights over the years. The Cr6 is a great light, very pleasing color and distribution. The Cr6 is an improvement over the Lr6 in terms of dimability and price.

This seller keeps shipping 1 instead of 4 as advertised. Tried 2 times. Amazon has no way of telling you when inventory error is resolved. 0 for order experience this time. First significant issue with Amazon in ~500 orders. Unless you want a hassle don't buy until the inventory is fixed.

These are a great way to seal off can lights for energy conservation. They provide more light than the CFL's that they replaced. They were easy to install and are "instant on".

I bought two of these to go next to the bed. The light is really nice, strong and natural feeling, so really helpful if you have to study or work at night. I believe I paid $40 something for each, which is ok. One big con for me is the button, it can be very difficult to push in and turn on which is kind of annoying. They should have made the button stick out a bit, or have put the button on the electrical cord or something. One other thing, the power cord is black, which I think is thoughtless on a design like this (I purchased the pearl colour). They should have given it a white power cord for aesthetic purposes!

The concept of the lamp is great, it looks very modern, and bulb burns very bright. However, the on/off switch is poorly made. It broke after 2 presses. A quick dis-assembly revealed that the switch is made of cheap brittle plastic. I would not recommend this product. Thankfully, Amazon has a great return policy.

As another reviewer has commented the on/off button is defective.

I'm no my third lamp, and each and every single one of them the on/off button has broken after less than a month.

It's not rocket science. This lamp is garbage. Avoid it.

Honest reviews on Tulip Desk Lamp

I really like the shape/size of this lamp. On my desk or on a night stand it doesn't appear bulky. When I'm reading I can bend the tulip bulb (the white part at the top) after extending it out it has a goose neck that's hidden.

The light cast has a very clean feel to my eyes. Not that yellowish look, but more like natural daylight which OttLite is known for.

Two things I would like to see different about this lamp:

1 The power button should have a rounder or circle shape versus being oval, which makes it a bit uncomfortable to turn on/off.

2 Elimination of any buzzing noise when the light is turned on. I can't tell if it's the light bulb or transformer. Kinda distracting when reading a book and you sit really close to it.

Overall I am really enjoying the lamp.

This is a very functional light no doubt. It gives excellent lighting and the flexible neck positions are a definite bonus.

However, prior to buying my first Tulip Lamp I read the reviews at Amazon & Ottlite and saw the frequent reference to the on/off switch design and hesitated to purchase on that basis.

I have other Ottlites folding desk lamp, floor lamps and that gave me confidence to buy my first Tulip light from Amazon a couple of weeks ago. Love the light, definitely superior. The switch is awkward and requires an unusual grip and pressure, but I thought okay.

I purchased a couple for my parents some 1,000 distant and again for me. My parents like the light and can deal with the switch.

Today I received my blue one directly from Ottlite, the others I ordered via Amazon, and the switch (which is flush to the base and you must press in to turn on) was collaspsed in with no spring motion to come out. It wasn't stuck, rather it was defective similar to what other reviewers had warned about.

I quickly called Ottlite to advise of the problem and I had to take pictures to send by email and they will get back to me. We'll see, probably fine but disappointing they have not acted to correct a widely known flaw. Also disappointed their Quality Control is so poor that they don't check product prior to shipping.

Net/net I think it is a VERY cool design with superior quality light IF IT CONTINUES TO WORK. Time will tell so the jury is out on this one.

Good luck!

These products work great! I was looking for a motion activated solar charged LED light to light up the side entrance to our house for those times that it got dark out and no one was home to turn on the lights. Finding the correct house key in near total darkness was very difficult and this was the best solution. The LED output is very bright and I can imagine that it would surprise any trespassers who might decide to stroll on to our driveway at night. The light gives my wife and sister a feeling of safety and confidence that the LED lights will automatically turn on if they happen to arrive home at night with all the house lights off.

I ended up buying this combo package because I have two sides outside of the house that do not have lighting and there are no electrical lines within reasonable distance to wire up any kind of lighting. I rather not pay the costs of hiring an electrician to run new lines. It turned out to be a great investment. I like the option of having the unit provide continuous illumination at a dim level and then full brightness whenever there it is triggered by motion. The units were very easy to install and very straight forward to setup.

I did have a problem with one of the units where the motion sensor would not trigger the LEDs to turn on after the initial 10 minute testing period was over. The unit was not responding unless you switch it off and on again. I contacted the seller by email and they responded very quickly. They shipped a replacement unit and also provided a prepaid return label to ship the defective unit back. The replacement unit worked just as intended and I am very pleased with the product. The seller's customer service was great!

I plan to buy more units in the future. I highly recommend these products to friends and family. You can buy these products with confidence!

Works great, very bright, very reliable, holds up to weather, easy to mount. I have used it about a year so far and there has been no problems. You might want to install it on the sunny side of your house. I will be buying more of these. Not only do you save electricity, but you keep your house safe. Everyone should have one of these.

Both lights work well, but $100.00 is too much to pay, for the quality.

Next time, I will just get a Sun Force product for less money.

The light output has a slight blue tint but with its 12V DC or AC (it is not polarity sensitive) operation it is perfect for those dark corners of the house in solar only homes or cabins, or in motor homes, or for backup or emergency lighting applications. The instant starting light output is equivelent or better than a 25W bulb. This is a good value for the money. They arrived on-time and in good condition. My only critique is that this bulb should be plainly marked near the base that it is for 12V use only as this base style could easily be mistaken for 120V bulbs. I marked all of mine with a Sharpe before I installed them. TECHNICAL STUFF: Based on measurements I made, it consumes a total of 2.4W (197mA at 12.3V) to produce the 1.8W for the LEDs. The current draw peaks at 12.3V (full power point) and drops off as the voltage is adjusted higher (power regulation) or lower (less power used).

Bought one of these as a test light to see if I would buy more. These is very inexpensive and does what it states. It, however, only beams light forward due to the nature of its design, much like a flashlight. Would be good for overhead use in an R.V. Or battery run shed use.

These lights work, and they do tighten up as another reviewer said they won't. I've had mine for a couple years and the sensitivity to movement does lessen over time, but you can increase the sensitivity by adjusting the dial to make up for it. Also, I wish the light could be made to stay on full bright mode all the time from dusk to dawn. You can do this by turning the light switch off (assuming you have a switch to control the circuit for this light) for one second and then back on again, but this mode resets when dawn comes. This is why I'm rating it 4/5 stars. Still, you can set the "bright" mode to stay on for 20 minutes after it detect motion, so that's not so bad. In sleep mode, the lights are reduced to about 1/2 brightness. When someone walks up, they are "sensed" by the motion detector and the lights go full bright.

This unit is not what I expected from Heath/Zenith. The light I was replacing was 7 years old and the day/night sensor went out so I bought this replacement unit. It is about half the weight of the original and nothing tightens, so if you get a wind it moves the sensor. Don't waste your money on this peice of junk. There are units out there that are half the price and just as good.

These 75W bulbs will not be available in the marketplace when present stock at all stores run out.

If you have recessed lights like I do, you will have to buy lower watt bulbs (darker rooms) as 2 1/2" LED bulbs and others, are not made in this wattage. Stock up now to put off the inevitable of having all recessed canisters replaced.
