I own three Streamlight weapon-mounted lights, as well as a Streamlight Super Tac handheld flashlight. I bought this because I needed a rechargeable light to carry on my dark morning runs in the Winter. This light looks and feels very well made. A side-by-side comparison against my other lights shows that this one is far brighter than them all. I consider this flashlight to be a good size and weight, even for my runs (I prefer a handheld light instead of a headlamp). The center of the beam is extremely bright and far reaching, and the spillover of the beam provides ample lighting to the sides of the road. I like the three intensity settings and the strobe feature, although I wish there was a very low setting for the brightness (even the lowest setting is blindingly bright). Additionally, the charger is very nice, and comes with an extra battery and a separate charging station for that extra battery. I couldn't be happier with this product. I'll be buying at least two more of these now that I've proven how great this light is.

As with previous experience Streamlight delivers a quality product. The Stinger DS LED HP comes professionally packed to protect from damage. The quality of the flashlight is outstanding. I also own an ultra stinger whose only short coming is that Streamlight does not make a piggy back charger for it.

This transformer along with the WAC strip lights seem to be prone to issues with flickering while not under 100% power (when you have them dimmed).

Yes, I've tried several different types of dimmer switches and yes, it still happens.

My current research surrounds using a resistor on the circuit in order to provide an incandescent like current draw which may level out the flickering. We'll see.

This is the second time these transformers and fixtures have produced this result in two separate homes. We are still attempting to resolve the issue in both locations.

We worked with a lighting designer for our house in the city, which uses a monorail and/or monopoint low-voltage lighting for overhead and spots. The bulb he recommended was the Soraa Vivid, but at that time only a few in the industry had the cache and the knowhow to obtain one. They were expensive and he had to order 85 bulbs. After we hesitated (we were biased against LED bulbs, conjuring images of blueish light that belongs at the bottom of an aquarium rather than a city dwelling), he demonstrated a comparable 50W halogen and a 12W Soraa bulb. There was no question the latter was far superior: the light was crisp, warm enough, and the beam was perfect for illuminating artwork (you can choose a wider beam for wall-washing). You may want to consider your ceiling height when choosing the width of the beam: we have 12' ceilings, and found that narrower beams work much better to focus on sculptures or small paintings. For a mural or a large canvass, go for several 36-degree spots.

We are pleasantly surprised to learn that Soraa has decided to partner with Amazon to distribute these bulbs. We can now order them ourselves at a fraction of the cost, without involving our designer and his distributor.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This is a nice LED dimmable spotlight with nice light quality and low heat output.

First, be aware this is a 12V bulb. Do not plug it into 120VAC or you will instantly burn it out. It will run on 12V AC or DC. If you are using DC, polarity is not labeled and not important as this apparently has some steering diodes built in. This light is dimmable but the power consumption is about the same from 12V down to 6V (between 9-10W consumption). You can dim it down to about 2.4V before it will turn off. Below 6V, the consumption drops from 9W to as little as 3.75W but it does seem to generate more heat (but not a lot). The light needs at least 6V to turn on consistently but once on, you can dim it pretty dim. The light color is said to be 3000K, which is about the same as an incandescent bulb. It seems a little whiter to me but it does not have that cold blue/white light of many LEDs. It is a very warm, pleasant light.

I would usually only consider indoor applications but I had a need for an MR16 bulb to go into a sealed solid brass outdoor 12VAC bullet landscaped light. And this turned out to be just what I was looking for.

Pros:

Wonderful light output. Very bright. Up lit 60 ft tall oak tree canopy very well. This was for the 36 degree version. I imagine the 25 degree version would up light the bark/trunk very well.

Great color rendition. The 95 CRI is true. This is a pretty light. No blues or overly warm yellows here.

Energy efficient.

Well built. Hand feel is of quality. Weighty and solid feeling.

Cons:

Does get very warm. Too hot to handle. But As long as it is dissipating the heat it should last its rated 25K hours.

A 5 star light review. Hope this helps if your considering this light. Just remember that LEDs still produce heat. Not as much as incandescents but enough to be to hot to touch.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The SORAA LED MR16 VIVID 10W 3000K 36° is brighter than my 50W halogens and uses 1/5 the power. This means I can run more bulbs on the same transformer and get more light. The beam is more focused than a halogen but the 36° version I purchased gives a fairly wide spread.

The spectrum is virtually identical to a halogen and I don't see any difference between the light it and halogens installed on the same track produce.

Of course the halogens do give off IR light which gives off heat. On my system I measuered 180 degrees on the glass surface of my halogen bulbs.

The light on the SORAA LED is not nearly as worm but the heatsink measured 215 degrees, Holding your hand in front of the halogen will feel much warmer than the LED, but touching the heatsink is MUCH hotter on the LED than the glass on the halogen.

The size and shape seems 100% compatible with any MR16 flood and this is an easy replacement. Although the cost is about 5-10x the cost of a halogen the life is reported to be 25K hours which is about 5x the life of a halogen.

Running about 8 hours a day I figure the LED version will probably cost about $5 less per year to operate compared to halogen, and last about 8 years.

If you have a need to add more lights to a limited power supply or have bulbs that are difficult to replace this is an easy choice. If you use MR16s anywere you should at least buy one and try it out!

This has changed over the last couple of years, and I have several bulbs in my house that give off the needed light with a pleasing hue.

This is the first LED to satisfy my track lighting needs. It has a very pleasant temperature, covers the area nicely, and considering the energy savings, will pay for itself over the lifetime of the bulb.

One word of note. This bulb throws a lot more heat than my other LED bulbs (But a lot less than the halogen it replaced).

I like the device, but it does have two minor things that I don't like, and they may be more important to some other people. I installed it with a low clearance Hunter fan. The antenna has to stick out, but the fan mounts don't have a whole for the antenna. And so the wire gets crimped during installation. This also makes it a little harder to mount the fan, especially since the unit must be put into the housing, and it is a very tight fit. Possible, but difficult.

The other nit (and this is a nit) is that the instructions don't mention that yoyu are likely going to have to cycle power to the fan, either from a wall switch, or from the circuit breaker box. I thought the unit didn't work after installing, and then finding the fan didn't work when I powered up the circuit. I had to turn the power on, then off for 5 minutes, then back on and it worked fine. It may not need a full 5 minutes, but 20 seconds didn't work, and since the install is on the second floor, and the circuit box is in the basement... So, I spent a night telling my daughter I would get it to work after several hours of installing the box and wiring, and then the fan. It didn't work at all the night. The next day, calmer, I did the power cycling twice, and after the long cycle it works fine. I have to admit to having uttered some words like, "fiddlesticks", "fooey", and "Shucks!" that first evening...

If this tip is in the instructions, it is in type I couldn't read.

Perhaps I didn't read the fine print, but there is some pairing between receiver and transmitter that is independent of the jumper settings. This means that if you have a lost transmitter and don't want to disassemble your ceiling fan to replace the receiver, you can not merely order this unit and use the transmitter on your old unit.

Not the cheapest remote out there but not terribly expensive, esp. through Amazon. Wiring is straighforward with all wires labeled.

Note: 9-volt battery NOT included. Says it on the package but it's not obvious when shopping online. Also, Hunter makes an identical looking remote for use with only their "Original" fan models, so make sure you read the description when shopping for one.

I had no problem fitting the module inside the Hunter canopy. I attached it to the ceiling plate with a wire tie, stuffed all the wire nut connections into the electrical box above the plate leaving plenty of room for the excess fan wiring. If anything, it's smaller than my other fan control module that came with the fan.

You can set the switch for either CFL bulbs or dimmable incandescent bulbs. BTW, I've seen people complain that fan lights are never bright enough. That is because the gov't mandated a maximum 190 watts total for ceiling fan lights, regardless of make or model. They now all have a 190 watt limiter built into them in case people try to add more light. Most people don't know this when they replace their ceiling light with a fan/light combo expecting to have the same amount of light as before. So with this remote you get to dim 190 watts or less. Sure you can buy low wattage CFLs that are very bright but then they are not dimmable. LED lights are dimmable but expensive. It's always something.

On a side note I tried to see if it worked with my other Hunter fan that came with it's own different model remote. Either I could not find the right DIP pin setting combination or Hunter made sure it would not match up at all, but it would not work. On the plus side it won't interfere with my other fan.

I bought these interesting lights out of curiosity more than anything else. They immediately caught my eye & I have learned to act on that instinct when I have the $ to spare & I'm ecstatic that I did, they were the hit of the gathering! I was overwhelmed by the requests of "will you make me an arrangement, whatever it costs"?! Here's what I did....

1)I began with a medium tall clear glass vase.

2)Secured a medium tall styrofoam cylinder with a glue gun into the bottom of the vase. $.89

3)Inserted the branch in the center of the styrofoam, making adjustments along the way (you may have to shorten foam).

4)Added 2 types of greenery & a few berry stems into foam (not a lot) at angles vertically so as to keep the willow the center of attention & hide bottom stem. $4-$6 (I dismantled an old arrangement that had gotten damaged & recycled it into this one)!

5)I then added some colored sm-med pine cone pot pourri (try to get the smallest bits in the bottom first) & filled 3/4 vase.$5

6)Added more greenery (2 types)& longer berry stems into foam horizontally @ top of vase 2/3 of the way around & bent it downward to give it a weeping look to soften & correspond to the lighted willow. $8-$16

7)Added more pine cone mix till vase was full.

8)Finished with last bit of weeping greenery & berries @ top of vase & formed willow branches to my liking.

9)Set it on my buffet & plugged it in! Total cost for me....approx. $34.00 (I already had the vase & some greenery) WalMart has vases for $3 I think the glass vase with filler is much more interesting than a clay pot!

10)Listened gleefully to the oohs & aahs & the "where did you buy this I want one"!

I have also made one where I filled the vase with small colored foam balls about the size of small bluberries (found @ some craft shops),I recommend staying with a single color batch, & inserted reindeer moss @ various intervals in the vase as I added the filler. The ideas can be endless, I have yet to see an attractive arrangement in any sellers pics yet! Good Luck Ya'll & have fun!!! =^..^=

I purchased these lighted willow branches from Amazon after liking the way they looked on various Torchwood (BBC) episodes. I have added a couple of customer shots so you can get a better idea of how well these produce light. Needless to say, you won't be lighting up a room with these but they look very pretty as an accent lightning piece. Think of them as giving off about as much light as the smaller Christmas string lights.

The reason I gave my branches four stars instead of five was because mine were rather sticky. Out of the package the branches are straight(ish) and ready for you to twist and shape into your preferred display configuration. Each branch is a semi-hard wire wrapped in a dark brown paper which feels similar to masking tape. Unfortunately my branches were tacky to the touch and left a sticky residue on my hands after handling (much like after touching epoxy putty or silicon sealant). The residue washes off your hands with soap and water but an unfortunate side effect is that the branches attract dust and pet hair more readily than if it wasn't so sticky. I'm assuming that eventually the sticky will dry over time (granted mine are a month old and still tacky to the touch), but since you're handling the branches so much when you initially get them, it was a bit of a annoyance for me.

Pros:

at more than 3 feet away they look realistic

soft light, probably about 10w total, nice for accent lighting

bendable, so you can reshape them as desired

Cons:

no switch. Instead, the plug disconnects from the transformer block but that still means fumbling with plugging in/out

it seems to be made of a sticky tape strapped around the wires, which means:

from less than 3 feet you can see the tape windings

it's sticky to the touch

about half the length (probably a little more) is a single straight wire with no branches. So the "40 inch" title really means 20 inches of nice branching, with 20 inches of fake "stalk" that you'll need to hide (plan for a tall vase).

Wow. Solar Motion LEDs have come a long ways. This unit certainly *lights* up the yard (enough to come close to 120v a/c electric lights). It's sturdy in build and easy to mount with two screws for the light assembly and four screws for the solar panel. I didn't get a chance to measure the cable since I placed the two just inches apart.

I also liked that the light has two high performance LEDs instead of a cluster of older generation LEDs.

This didn't get 5 stars because there wasn't a way to change the length of time the light stayed on. There was just a switch that was Off, On, or Test.

If this light lasts a couple of weeks, I may consider getting a few more.

Fast forward one year and I decided to get another one. This time, the unit is defective. At night, the light does not shut off and ends up draining the battery very quickly. I've requested for a return from Smarthome.

The light is very bright and I love that the solar panel is detached and has a long cord so you can position it to catch the sun. The downsides are that you can't set how long the light stays on, it only stays on for about a minute, and you can't really set the sensitivity of the motion detector either. Much easier to install than a wired in security light! An enclosed sticker even guides you where to mount the screws. Wish it could be set to at least stay on at least 3 minutes... but oh well.

Led bulbs are just super expensive in general. Usually at four bucks per watt, if you can find it lower then you are getting a deal. This bulb is rated at 3w but I without a watt-meter I'm guessing it draws around 1.5w, it is very dim. Like three of these together definitely is not nearly bright as my single 6w bulb. There is very little practical use for this bulb, it goes great in the stove range vent-fan. As ambient track lighting, great. Something this dim has little application, but if low power night light is what you are looking for, this is a bargain. This bulb has a disgusting green tinge, but the lenses focuses the light into a narrow PAR which makes it unnoticeable. The 5w and 9w versions that use cree LEDs that look identical would be more practical, but again, those are $15 bulbs. This thing is 3 bucks a pop and will last longer than your life.

-update. These bulbs are awesome! Just unscrew the top, that plastic top actually blocks half the light, and use clear tape replace it, the bulb gets much brighter. If you dont want the focused beam, then remove the 3 magnifying lenses. I have one bulb being used as a front porch light. It stays on all day and does not even get warm! The LEDs are actually dangling off the heat sink, it doesn't even need a heat sink because it draws like .5 a watt and does not get hot.

After adjusting the light around my neck (which in my opinion is the largest setback to this being a 5 star product), there was enough light for me to read the novel on a train trip.

Love it really great for power outages. Much more practical than a head lamp or a clip on book lamp. I also bought one for the husband even though he insisted he didn't need one. He now uses it almost nightly for reading in bed. Haven't used it yet for crochet, but plan to. I think it would be great for that as well.

11/26/2010 update: We just came off a three day power outage from a series of large snow storms. Our Beam N Reads were amazing put it around your neck and go on your way in the dark hands free. With good batteries (not the ones they come with) they last forever. We didn't have to worry about changing batteries even though we had plenty on hand. We don't know what we would do without them. A wonderful, practical gift better than a lot of usless junk out there! And it works so well for crafts even when you have power especially if working with dark colored textiles.

May 2012 Update: Well, went to turn it on the other night and it just went "POP!" and no longer works. There is rattling now. One we bought not even a year ago for a friend just did the same thing to him a couple of weeks ago. Trying to debate on buying another it is so indispensable, but I don't want to buy them every two years.

September 2013: I tried other neck lamps and none can hold a candle (koff koff) to the Beam N Read. I bought the six bulb one just a few months ago. So far so good. Even if it goes out I will have to get another they are that good.

This light is nice and bright. Once you get the neckband adjusted to your liking, then it's great...but don't move or you may have to readjust! (See PS below) It's a good light-is much brighter than most lights but the neckband is annoying. Perhaps making a 'padding-typethingy' to go around where it hits your neck will help -it would. I bought this not for reading but for crafts for working with small objects (but mine has 3 strenghths of magnification that can be attached). I give it 3 stars for great light but annoying neckstrap. (PS: I shorten my strap so it lies much better against my upper chest which aids the light in shining more towards my lap where my book is. This also helps with the readjustment issue I first mentioned-When it's shorter, there is less length to get 'unadjusted'= so you just slide it back to your chest). The only other con is it is rather large=doesn't fit into pockets made for eReaders. I use one of the tiny/miniature backpacks which gives me lots of room to carry my reader, this light, the magnifiers, PLUS my 'other' light, and my charger, etc and more. Works well. You'll love this light if that above doesn't bother you.

I mainly read at night, yet my wife is very sensitive to external light. In June I received a Nook as a gift from my darlin' and so I promptly bought the nook's dedicated reading light. Like every other reading light I've ever bought it was unsatisfactory with insufficient illumination power (with the sole exceptions over the years being the original itty bitty book light, which bulb's are over priced and burn out over quickly, and the light wedge, which was disastrously inconvenient with an e-book reader) and/or power source requirements.

This Beam N Read works every bit as well as advertised and even into the unexpected range. The silly little red filter really does drastically reduce the ambient light in the room (which is great for my wife) and yet gives a pleasing and sufficient amount of light and contrast on a white sheet of paper (or an e-book page). The little gizmo also has the advantage (thanks to its LED display) of having WAY less heat output that the original itty bitty book light and I don't have to worry about light bulb burn-out. By-the-way, also as the ads indicate, this thing is great for small-time hand work, be it model-making or needle-work. Finally the power requirement is also as advertised. Combining this product with rechargeable batteries and a fast recharger has given me an "endless" supply of pleasant long-night reading experiences with no worries about excessive power consumption/costs nor over-heated sheets.

It really works just as well as advertised. Wouldn't it be wonderful if every product did that? I have several friends who received a Kindle for Christmas and several family members who do detailed handwork I've recommended this product to each of them.

Worn around the neck, this has a light, adjustable strap. The reading light is said to last about 120 hours, and I've been using it for weeks and it's still going.

It came with 4 standard alkaline AA batteries and a clip-on red filter to minimize night blindness, their literature says, and to soften the light if needed. Really lightweight and flexible with a flip-up design, it's turned On by merely flipping the reflector/hood up.

I now usually have it on when I'm home. Going downstairs at night or to a darkened room, or when I just can't see something well enough, I can even save on lights by just turning this on for awhile.

For reading a book or an e-book reader, you can also reverse it if you prefer (as I do) to hold the book or e-reader higher than on your lap, and then flip the reflector/hood down instead, so that the light angles up. But if someone is sitting across from you, this may not be very comfortable for that person, as the Led lamps would be directed at their eyes too.

I've also used it, in reversed position, for piano music.

Essentially, I love that it's always available when I need extra light, and for the Kindle, at night, it provides a very even light, especially when reading in bed or in an airplane. The light, while more than adequate, is not overpowering and is less likely to bother someone else nearby who might be needing some sleep.

I am not able to photograph or record the video of the application at the moment, but I am very satisfied. The spot is on a picture above fireplace of lightning above the St. Johns River, and in the light brings it to life! Review of IKEA - DIODER 4-piece Light Strip Set, Multicolor

To preface, please note that I bought this to backlight my LG 47LM7600 LED TV which is about 6" from the wall. The dioder does everything that it says, and it is does it quite well. It is a very simple system and is quite easy to install. However, the cabling behind your TV will get pretty messy, but that is to be expected.

The colors are decent overall. The yellow and orange spectrum are not quite as full as I had hoped, but this lighting system does do blue, red, purple and green very well. White light is also not quite as pure as I had hoped (a bit bluish green in my experience), but I was still satisfied with the color spectrum and did not expect perfection at this price. Also, it should be noted that this does get quite bright, and I have found that the best way to manage the brightness (since there is not a dimmer switch) is to choose how far from the center of your TV you place the lights through some trial and error.

OK, so here is my problem. After installing the lights initially, I noticed that the light was a bit fragmented. This is hard to explain, but there were reflection lines in the glow that came from the strips. I noticed that this was because of the glass shell that houses the light strips. The glass seemed to block some of the light and show distortions in the glow from behind the TV which I found pretty annoying. As a perfectionist, I wanted a nice true glow from these lights without any reflections, so I decided to remove the glass shell. If you look closely at each glass strip, you will notice that the glass shell is only attached to the strip by one small dab of glue. By working a sharp knife into the glass tube, you can cut through the glue and easily remove the LED strips from the housing. THIS MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE.

After mounting the LED strips alone, without the glass shell, I was blown away by the difference in light quality. The glow from behind my TV is smooth and even without any disturbances. I was amazed at how well this kit highlighted my TV and actually made the picture appear much clearer and brighter.

This may or may not be a problem for people, but the distortion was noticeable after installing on a TV 6" from the wall. If you will be installing on a similar setup, I highly suggest removing the glass shell. It will make all the difference.

These are very well made lights, very bright and has an awesome look to them. I put them under my glass top desk in my room and it looks great! The only complaint I have is the cord from the lights to the 5 way connector box is too short to my liking. I was going to put one light strip behind my tv which is about 7 feet from my desk (Or where the plug for it is) but that is my bad for not double checking the length. People are right there is barely any orange color if at all so if you want orange lights don't get this. Overall a great product and you can put them basically anywhere you like!

The color modes on the set are nice, but the 'white' is definitely a bluish-green that is ok for now but not long term. The problem lies mostly in that the emitters themselves need a frosted or other 'diffuse' filter on them. the individual color leds are far enough apart that they dont blend properly (which makes the color banding the other reviewer noticed with the casings intact more noticeable). I recently tested in store at lowes the cyron led sticks (very similar to this but with a worse controller) and it did the same 'banding' and 'off white'. Unfortunately it seems that with cheaper RGB chips this is what is expected.

If you want something to have a colored accent, or color shifting lighting effects this is a decent little set. If you're looking for video bias lighting behind your display (reduces eye strain among other things) keep looking elsewhere or find a straight white led set, be sure it is 'daylight' or 6500k.
