I've been very impressed so far. It's only been up a week. Installation was not bad if you have the right tools and have some handyman about you. Parts seem to be good quality. I could see that the seam around the solar panel was not sealed well so I took PVC cement and run it around the edge and this seems to be working fine. You can adequately light up a 20 yard by 20 yard area with good lighting. Pleased so far. It's early yet.

If you want the ULTIMATE in spot lights, go find some of the 25 Million Candle Power units available. If this doesn't do it for you, then you truly ARE a flashaholic.

I like the two level brightness feature but really prefer a variable dimmer instead. When the light is on low, I only got half a beam. I don't know if this was because the bulb was still cold, or that's how it runs. I get a full beam on high.

The instructions say to plug the unit in for 20-24 hours to condition the battery, but no more than 36, before your first use. There after, charging should take 16-18 hours. The problem is the instructions say the red light will flash when it charges it never did. I pulled the battery and charged it with my own lead battery charger and it indicated a full charge. Yet, the light never blinks. Either the manual is wrong, or the light doesn't work right. This is bad because there is no auto shut off and over charging a lead battery too long can be damaging, if not dangerous. No trickle charging so it can not be plugged indefinately.

At 7 amps, you might get 45-60 minutes of BRIGHT light on the battery. I suppose you could get a higher amperage battery for longer run times because the charger doesn't know the difference. However, now you have the problem of heat for prolonged periods of time. That's only if your run it to death.

Take this into the darkest room you can find and bring some friends for the "whoa" factor. Shine it straight at the ceiling and turn it on....wow...the room is lit...put on full and WHOA...who turned on the lights? Should be expected as this unit has a bulb of 80 watts.

One of the nice features is the included auto adaptor. Plug into the charge hole to charge it in your car. Plug it into the other hole and run it off any external 12 volt batty. I tried it with a 12v pack I made of 10 NiMh D-cells. This is a great idea so you can run it when you are stationary, but still have a full battery to go mobile. NEVER RUN THE LIGHT WHILE CHARGING!

In all, a great distance and lighting tool. Comes with everything you need including straps, and adjustable legs. Never shine this in the eyes of a person or animal unless it is self defense. At closer distances it is like looking at the sun. Light up your block today!

I really love the look and the sturdiness of this flashlight. It's hefty and gives off a huge bright beam of light. We have used it for hooking up things behind the TV, checking the water softener in the dark corner of the garage...and for quick uses it's fantastic. That's the good news.

The bad news is that the battery lasts about 15 minutes, 20 at the most. You also can't run the light while it's plugged in. There are those times when you aren't in the middle of a power outage, but just want some extra light...no such luck.

I wouldn't recommend it or buy it again. I'd go for something smaller that will last longer.

I bought this flashlight in mid-2005. I used it every so often for feeding my horses and dogs late at night, well after the sun went down, and it worked great to brighten the night. Only after having used this light approximately 5 times, each time for about 5 minutes, the bulb burnt out.

I have yet to find a brick and mortar retail store in my area which carries the halogen bulb and haven't had much luck finding it online either. Aside from this problem, which could be minor or major dependtant on your view, this is a great flashlight and really will light up your yard, home, surrounding property, etc.

The bridge crossing the river connecting to my driveway is .6 miles from my house. I took this outside while it still worked and could see the bridge as clear as day including all the trees around the bridge and even had some reflection from the river water.

GREAT LIGHT! BAD BULB!

THis thing is bright and will cut throgh the darkness. My olny beef is the battery life. keep it charged. I guess you can get aroung the physics. if you want that much light and a power source that isn't a gasoline engine you have to live with a shorter battery life. It will light up the night. they also have a 15 million one as well for a bit more money and a bit more wieght. I found this suits my purposes well and when I used it in the pitch black I could see even the deer in the woods pretty far back. amzing to see they eyes that reflect back at you when you shine this in the forest :-)

DO NOT waste your time or money on this product. Look at the Thor Cyclops 15 million candlepower light currently (July 2009) listed as on sale for $20 more than this product if free super-saver shipping is accepted.

Received this product and returned it the next day. The photo on Amazon matches the photo on the box. The light inside is not the same one. It has a cheap two-position slide switch on the handle (that doesn't even click in place well) in place of the two switches on the left side seen in the photo. It has a single adjustment knob on each side instead of the two shown. The plastic housing is a much softer plastic than my old one. And, the light, even after a 12 hr charge, is nowhere close to as bright as the old one. It does not have the fastened-on rear cover for the battery. It does not have a lead-acid battery in there--it's some type of rechargeable smaller battery that is several pounds lighter than the lead acid battery in my old Thor 10X that I was replacing. Now, by old one was a different brand, but the photo displayed is identical to that one I have owned for over 5 years. I mistakenly ordered two and both were identical, so it wasn't a case of a sneaky buyer returning a different item.

On the plus side, Northern Tool was graciously willing to accept responsibility for the difference and issued a postage paid return label for both.

I have recently bought 3 different kinds of cool white LED, two from Amazon, one from home depot (Phillips). They all get 4 stars as they put out really nice light for a MR16 LED at a fairly reasonable price. Compact designs, that fit in my MR16 indoor track lighting fixtures. Though this model only fits in without the UV filter glass (there is no UV with the LED), and the clip still holds it in place.

The phillips and the other MR16 Bi-Pin (GU5.3)LED Spot Light Bulb are pretty good spots (there is a slight difference in color.) Both actually compete quite well with a 50W halogen flood, meaning that while the spot has as much light in that spot area, there is no extra light outside it. i.e. halogen still puts out more light....ok, well duh.

This 5W LED flood does a really nice job of spreading the light out, but it is dimmer than a 50W halogen flood......ok, well duh. It's just too dim to really use as a straight replacement, BUT.....

I have a number of halogen lights on the ceiling to fill out the living area....and it is a bit of overkill, but that's what it took. i.e. lets say 3 or 4 lights over a 15ft stretch (X3 for the 24ft distance), 8-10ft up yes, add it up boys and girls, that's a lot of wattage. Where I can use this LED flood model is in the corners or in between halogens, meaning I can replace some of my halogens with little noticeable drop in light, as the LEDs will now "fill in" the gaps I used to use a 50W halogen. The spots are nice, as they can fill in specific locations with pin point light, such as a reading area or work area, where I also used to double up the halogens. All in all, I can reduce from ten 50W halogens, down to 6, with 3 LED floods, and a spot or two. So, 200Ws, for 20W, not too bad.

I did an initial bite of four of these bulbs to test in various places around my house, to see in what applications I could use them. I have a wide variety of light fixtures, so I was able to test these bulbs in a lot of different situations. Here's how they fared:

1. Bathroom lighting (sticking out of the wall above the mirror) 4.5/5

I replaced all four of the 50 watt round incandescent bulbs that came with the house for this test. I was worried that the 180 degree luminance would be insufficient in this fixture (not lighting the wall enough), but it is surprisingly good. 3000K color is better than 2700K in my opinion; it gives a more natural appearance to my skin without coming close to appearing cold. It would be slightly better if these bulbs were omnidirectional, as you can see that the wall is slightly dimmer, but it still functions very well. Do note that they output twice as much light as a 50 watt incandescent; if you have a large number of low wattage bulbs in your scenario, this bulb may be too bright. So even though the bulb works by design in this situation, I'll be looking for one that's not as bright.

2. Kitchen: recessed down lighting 5/5

This is where the bulbs truly excel due to their 180 degree luminance. They're superbly bright and the color is again very pleasing. With these bulbs, I can provide my kitchen with higher quality light in a larger volume while using only 36 watts instead of 260.

3. Closet: non-recessed, frost globe pointing down from ceiling 5/5

This bulb works excellently here. The light shines strongly through the globe, just as the 65W incandescent that came before it in my house did. Toward the ceiling is slightly dimmer due to the 180 degree luminance, but it doesn't matter at all in this location.

4. Hallway: horizontal with respect to the ceiling, one bulb 3/5

These fixtures I have mount the bulb parallel to the ceiling. The result is that this bulb, not being omnidirectional, cannot light everything, so you end up with obvious shadows in certain parts of the hall. It's still usable, as the shadowing is strongest on the ceiling, and the light spreads to the floor better, but the effect is not ideal. Unfortunately, I'll have to find another bulb for this situation.

5. Bedroom: horizontal with respect to the ceiling, two bulbs in opposite directions 4/5

These fixtures are just like #4, but with two bulbs facing opposing directions. The bulbs work better here since you have two opposing directions of light adding up to basically 360 degrees. However, in my situation the bulbs' luminous areas don't cross, so you end up with lines of strong shadows on the ceiling. Not ideal, but it still works.

Overall, these bulbs have excellent light quality in most situations. They're a great value in lumens per dollar, and they have the lifetime warranty. Further, they have the highest efficiency I've yet seen in LEDs for my home: 100 lumens per watt (I've seen as low as a meager 45). If they'll work in your application, look no further!

Best Deals for G7 Power G7A21930 900 Lumen LED Light Bulb, 9-watt, Warm White

I purchased this bulb based on Prime availability and positive reviews.

The light output is fantastic; Very bright and a nice color.

The metal heat collar acts as a heatsync, and gets too hot to touch. My infrared thermometer reads 115F.

My one complaint is this emits an audible buzzing. Using this in a swinging desk lamp, I can clearly hear a buzzing while sitting at my desk.

This product advertises itself as for desklamps, but if you have any average hearing you may notice a buzz. It is constant and can really grate on you.

Would not recommend for desk lamps. I will repurpose this to a ceiling light, but I am still disappointed.

Update 01/30/2013: re-upgraded back to 4 stars

G7 support was gracious to send me six new bulbs to replace the ones that buzzed (about a month after I contacted them last year). I apologize that I haven't had a chance to update this review, but I have since purchased more of their updated bulbs, and am happy to say that they have resolved the buzzing in the new bulbs. I have noticed that the newer bulbs are slightly more yellow in color than the original ones, but that is of minor consequence compared to the buzzing. Good customer service and product improvement.

Update 05/10/2012: downgraded from five stars to one star (LISTEN TO VIDEO)

Out of the seven bulbs that I've purchased, six of them have unbearably loud buzzingso loud that I replaced them with CFL's again. There was very slight buzzing when I first installed them, but they have gotten progressively louder over this past month. They've been put on our outdoor fixtures now, as they give me a headache indoors (not exaggerating). Turn up your audio and listen to the video to judge for yourselves. Contacted G7 support but no reply, and unfortunately past my return date. Waste of money for pricey bulbs that I can't actually use.. Purchase with caution, as these bulbs are advertised as 'No Buzz' on the packaging. False claims if some of them do in fact buzz. Read through the rest of the reviews, and you'll find that this is not an uncommon issue. Need some better quality control.

Original review 03/27/2012: five stars

These are instantly bright unlike our CFLs which take a while to warm up. CFL life span is also reduced with constant on/off activity, i.e. turning the lights on for only a little while, then turning them off (like our hallways lights). But LEDs do not suffer from that reduced life span when used for short periods of time throughout the day. So, this LED light removes those disadvantages, while saving even more electricity. Nice bright light (slightly brighter than our 15W CFLs), not too white, but just warm enough. Subjectively, I think the LED lighting looks better and more like natural sunlight than the off-yellow color from our CFLs. The only negative about these LED bulbs is the price.. but that price will come down the more that you purchase! Plus, no more mercury, and no more glass. These LED bulbs remove those safety hazards as well. Welcome to the future of lightingI'd buy these to replace all 40 of our CFLs in our recessed lights if I could afford to do so.. But for now, one at a time as the CFLs go out.

I wanted to try out an LED bulb, and chose this one based on price. I don't have any measurement equipment, but subjectively agree with Mike's earlier comments. It's a bright white light, certainly equivalent to a regular 75 watt bulb (maybe even 85?). I used it to replace a 75w CFL flood....the LED goes on immediately, gives more light, runs cooler, and doesn't have my CFL's yellowish tinge. It works in a dimmer set to near full on, but just binary (on/off). I'm not sure what a lifetime guarantee really means (practically speaking), but I bought two more of these bulbs anyway.

I purchased these for my kitchen as under cabinet lights on the counter and lights inside some cabinets with glass fronts. They wired together very easily and come with installed double stick tape or screws to attach the lights and wiring to the cabinets. I don't care for fluorescents and the xenon lights just put out to much heat to put into the cabinets to make me comfortable. These put out a good amount of light (slightly blueish in colour) and draw very little electricity. I am very happy with the way my installation came out and with the product.

I had some of these get so dim after a year that I had t replace them with the Zenon ones. Very disapointed.

After a couple months of research, I went with this kit and have been very impressed. Excellent value.

For a clean install, buy some extra 22ga hookup wire and a $16 dimmer switch.

Put transformer in basement, run power through supplied switch through wall to dimmer.

Then run wire to Fixtures. I mounted fixtures just behind face of cabinets and right next to eachother.

The result is a really clean look with no exposed wires. There aren't cones of light like that from undercabinet pucks.

Instead, a perfectly even illumination of cabinet and backsplash.

I absolutely love the result and with such low power consumption, I have no problem leaving them on all the time. Now they are often the only lights on in the house! Only wish the fixtures were black, but would still buy this set again in a heartbeat. Led is the future. The future is here.

Best Deals for LED Under Cabinet Lights - Contractor Kit

We purchased the contractor kit (LED Under Cabinet Lights Contractor Kit), along with two starter kits (Under Cabinet LED Lighting Start Up Kit), to install lighting under our new cabinets that we installed around Thanksgiving this year.

I can't believe how easy these were to install. Took less than two hours to install all three sets of lights. The two longest parts were pulling the backing off the stickers and cutting the wire to the proper lengths.

First we laid out how we wanted the lights, then pulled off all the plastic covers and wire caps. I plugged in the transformer and hooked it up to the switch. Then I cut the wires to the proper lengths and laid them in place. Then we just snapped on the wire caps, and we had light(s). Mounting the lights easily took the longest time because I am challenged by pulling paper off of sticky things. Once that was conquered, we stuck them in place and were done.

Once we were satisfied with how things looked, I went back later and screwed the lights into the cabinet.

The lamps in the box were very well packaged and the shipping speed was excellent. One light by itself does not produce much light, but the 6 under our cabinets produces plenty of light to see in the bread machine or on the cutting board.

Information for the energy-conscious: I hooked 11 of these lights up to the Watt-O-Meter, and it was reading 7 watts. When powered off for several hours, the total energy usage recorded did not register even .01 kilowatts used. The third set was used to replace an under-cabinet fluorescent light over the sink. 3 of these LED lights are about half as bright as that 20-watt tube, with much less glare.

If I had more cabinets to do, I would buy these again in a heartbeat.

UPDATE (2/26/13): Over a year later, these lights are still going strong. We leave one set on as our "don't come house to a dark house" light, and our electric bill hasn't changed. These lights are still as bright as the day we put them in, and have seen a lot of use. The only minor issue we had was the sticky tape was not holding, so we put in small wood screws bought from {insert local big box home improvement store here}.

I have recommended these to several people, and will continue to do so.

Honest reviews on LED Under Cabinet Lights - Contractor Kit

Connex LED Under the Counter Lighting System was very easy to install looks wonderful. Added a PWM Dimmer to the circuit and made the system even more pleasing for added Mood Lighting effect.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for LED Under Cabinet Lights - Contractor Kit

I expected these lights to be just a little brighter, but still a decent choice. The pictures you see probably have no gaps between lights and utilize every inch of space under the cabinets. They are very easy to install and are 20-30% brighter than the typical round LED lights you would find at a store. The price seems on the high side but when you compare the number of lights with a retail store (number vs. price), this is actually very cheap. My entire kitchen is now lit with lights left over. If you are placing these on 2 sides of a galley kitchen, buy an extra spool of wire.

Review of TerraLUX TLE-5EX MiniStar2 Extreme LED Upgrade for Mini Maglite 2AA

TerraLUX TLE-5EX MiniStar2 Extreme LED Upgrade for Mini Maglite 2AA Flashlight
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars
Buy Now
The TerraLUX TLE-5EX is truly an outstanding upgrade for the AA Mini Maglite. Don't confuse this upgrade with the 1 watt LED Nite Ize upgrade. The TerraLux upgrade is much better, and definitely worth paying a few extra bucks. This is as close as you'll get a AA Mini-Mag to a "tactical light"

PROs:

Outstanding brightness. According to the package itself, the upgrade is rated at 140 Lumens. It is brighter than the Nite Ize version, and definitely brighter than the incandescent bulb it comes with.

You maintain focusing ability of the Mini-Mag. For some it might be a pro, for others it might be a con. The good thing is that when you change from spotlight to floodlight, you don't get the annoying dark spots as much.

-It is easy to install, and a simple 4-step instruction card is included.

-It comes with a smooth reflector, which helps the light travel a bit further.

-The LED is a bit "whiter," it does not have the bluish tint a lot of LEDs have.

-Your batteries last longer.

CONs:

-The package states that the upgrade will give you a 140 lumen light. However, I think it is more between 80-100 lumens. My 80 lumen Dorcy light outperforms it. And we definitely cannot compare this light to a Surefire or any other tactical light that runs on 123A's like someone else reviewing this upgrade mentioned.

-Although this is the CLOSEST you'll get the mini-mag to tactical level, I do not recommend it for such use. The "throw" is not good enough despite the smooth reflector.

-It is easy to insert the module incorrectly. If the light does not turn on at first, remove the module, rotate it half-way, and re-insert.

Overall the PROs outweight the CONs on this upgrade. I would recommend that you upgrade your Mini-Mags with this module and store them for emergency use, in emergency kits, or in the car. You'll truly be surprised by the potential that old Mini-Mag actually has with the right kind of upgrade!

P.S. Anything over $18 (including shipping) is too much to pay (Might as well get the complete Mini-Mag LED at Wal-Mart). Look elsewhere till you find a cheaper price, I got mine at eBay for $16 + Free Shipping.

After looking at all the available options to convert my very old Minimag to LED, decided upon this one. Received it today, took two minutes to install. Measured before-and-after light output with CEM DT-1300 photometer:

BEFORE (incandescent)

340 LUX @ 1 meter

4000 LUX @ 10cm

AFTER (LED)

720 LUX @ 1 meter

16500 LUX @ 10cm

Conclusion: focussing is much better with original, light output more than double with LED kit.

Details: fresh alkaline batteries, incandescent was replaced less than six months ago.

Comment: will try to improve focussing per other reviewers later, but well-satisfied with improvement now.

Best Deals for TerraLUX TLE-5EX MiniStar2 Extreme LED Upgrade for Mini Maglite 2AA

I purchased this from another website for a bit cheaper than Amazon has it for. I was expecting it to be what it says, 140 Lumens.. it's not. I have a previous LED upgrade, not the 3 LED version but the 1 Watt LED version which is pretty good and probably puts out about 40-50 Lumens. I got it with the Smart IQ switch which I still have and works great.

This LED is a bit brighter than the original with a whiter color and better overall throw which does allow you to see more at night as it has wider coverage, but again, it's no where near the 140 Lumens I was expecting. I'd say it's putting out about 70-80 Lumens.

Though it comes with the new reflector, I found it very difficult to get it to a full spot beam. I had to unscrew the lens cap about a turn or so to allow the extra space for it to truly focus correctly. You can get a flood light but it just gives you a ring effect which doesn't do a whole lot. But then as mentioned, because the area light is much better with this light, you don't even really need to use the flood effect on it.

So if you are still using an incandescent bulb and want to upgrade, it's worth it in that case.

However, the best thing to do is to just get the new 2nd Generation Maglite 2 AA LED version with the 4 modes as that is Very bright, has the dimming, flash and SOS features and comes with the usual batteries and carry case for about $20 or less on Amazon. That light is rated at 69 Lumens and it does have a very good beam that travels about 200 feet and because Maglite improved the reflector, you do get the old fashioned Spot to Flood capability back that was so popular in the original AA Mini Maglite with the Incandescent bulb.

NOTE: I found that if you're using this or any LED bulb with the IQ Switch, that you will get about 20-30% less light out of it. After removing the IQ Switch from this LED bulb, it was noticeably brighter. Though it's still not 140 lumens as far as I can see.. it is a good bit stronger and at least more in line with what I was initially expecting.

My 104 Lumen XL50 still blows it away though. Not sure if that's because of the larger reflector with a better matching design or because the actual light output is better from the XL50 or not. The website I bought my version from did say that it was 140 Lumens (At the Emitter) which could mean that it is actually throwing more light than it appears because of the smaller and limited capability of the replacement reflector causing the beam to not throw anywhere near as far or as powerfully as the XL50 for example.

But overall it does light up an area pretty nicely, but you're still better of spending a little extra and getting the 2AA LED MiniMag version instead.

If you are looking to make your old Incandescent MiniMag useful again, then this will definitely do the trick nicely.

Honest reviews on TerraLUX TLE-5EX MiniStar2 Extreme LED Upgrade for Mini Maglite 2AA

I purchased this upgrade to replace the old incandescent bulb in my Mini-Maglite. I was very surprised by the increase in light output. With the old bulb I considered the flashlight barely usable, useful for walking out to my car at night (I live in the woods with no lights around) but that was about it. With the terralux led I consider it an actual flashlight now. The beam is very clean with a decent size bright center at 10 ft and has a large spill over effect providing good ambient around the bright circle. In pitch black woods I get a usable amount of light for about 100 125 ft. and can use to scan the tops of tree's around me. In ambient lighting, like in a city, I get a usable amount of light for about 50-100 ft. depending on lighting conditions. The light is perfect for scanning objects and rooms at a close to medium distance. While the light is clean and focused it still has more of a flood effect than a beam effect. If the power goes out in your home this is the perfect light. In candle mode it will light up a decent sized family room or kitchen and it won't be to bright on your eyes while using it as a flashlight around the rest of the house. This is a very handy flashlight to have and I find that I kept reaching for it when I need a good light around the yard or house. For seeing into the back of stores in a mall or looking down alley ways I would suggest a more powerful flashlight like a new Maglite D Cell LED or something that has a tight beam that will throw light for a couple hundred feet.

Update 1-31-2012

I just received a few of these modules in the mail as a gift for a family member and noticed that I got a different LED module than I did the first time. First off the new module is a smaller LED on a black circuit chip and comes with a deeper reflector. I contacted Terralux to see what the difference was and found out that it is the same Cree XR-E LED module only slightly updated, but the circuitry has been updated to be more efficient and slightly brighter. In real world testing I have found that the new module is brighter by a fair amount and has a more neutral white color (versus the old blue color) with a more intense hotspot. It throws more light, farther away than the original did. I also found that the new reflector retains more of the focusing feature that the original Maglite had. It allows you to go from flood when you turn it on (useful inside a house) to spot to see things farther away (useful outside). (The old version mostly had spot and not that great of a flood setting) My previous review remains essentially the same only the distances will be somewhat greater (but not by to large of a margin). I will post pictures soon of the new beam and module compared to the old one for people who have the old on to see. (If your LED is a large one on a green background you have the old one) I know that I will be picking up one of these new ones for myself and update my Maglite, I definitely prefer this new beam's color and throw.

Bought 3 of these to upgrade the 2-AA flashlights I already have with the incandescent bulbs. Now just as bright if not brighter than 3-AA LED Maglite! Also brighter than TerraLUX TLE-20 that's in another 2-AA flashlight. Great upgrade.

I bought many of the night lights with/without sensor, they always broke after few months. You can't replace any of the part and they're not cheap like $4.99. LED light will last much longer and price is very reasonable. I use a timer to control the ON/OFF so it work just like a night light. The light goes into random color mode when turn on which maybe a good feature for some.

Above is for the use of this unit as a replacement for night light. As for the original purpose (mood light), I would give it a 3-1/2 stars for the reasonable pricing and bright enough for a corner of your room or the size of a bathroom. I own the Philips 69143/60/48 LivingColors Generation 2 Translucent Changing LED Lamp with Remote so this seem good for kid's room but not for romantic lighting.

For those who eat snack cakes, Tastykake is the premiere favorite. With there homestyle baking and taste, it's a hands down winner. No other snack cake manufacturers can come even close. Needless to say, Tastykake scores another hit with their lemon pie. It's simply delicious. With the soft crust and real lemon filling, it's no surpise that this pie is a winner.

Sturdy and reliable. Bright light and good battery life. I like the magnet in the base wish there was one that ran the length of it too. Using in Afghanistan packing it in a rucksack and it is holding up well. Wish there was a selector switch so I didn't have to cycle through the flashlight to get to the worklight but that sounds a lot like whining to me. Great value for the money will have one in each car when I get home.

(2008 HOLIDAY TEAM)This is a very efficient and small night light. It is six inches across, two inches wide and sticks out from the wall about one inch. It can be installed with an adhesive pad or with mounting holes and screws. It's one of the easiest setups ever. Just load three AAA batteries (not included) in the side compartment and set it to the wall.

Two sets of (4) four LED lights are bright enough to shine the way safely. It's amazing that the sensor can detect `motion' from as far away as sixteen (15) feet and with an angle of 60 degrees, which is adjustable to shine up or down. You determine how to set your best angle of light either the same direction or alternating. That means you can place this at the top or foot of the stairs or in a hallway where you might have night traffic. It instantly shines on and then turns off automatically a few seconds after no motion is detected. If you need the light to stay on longer, simply make a 'motion' within the detector's range.

It also stays off during the day and only begins to `sense' when light is reaches a certain ambience or low-level. The "ON/OFF/AUTO switch" is small and exists in the bottom of the unit. This will easily last several years on those batteries.

Imagine just stubbing your toe once and compare it to the price of this unit. It's a keeper. This and the sensor mentioned above are both fantastic products from `hipe' and a great deal for the price. Product generously supplied by manufacturer for an honest review.

This is an 8 LED motion sensing night light that operates on three AAA batteries. It is ideal to mount in a hall, closet, basement, attic, near a staircase, in a child's room, garages, bedrooms or in a bathroom. It uses a PIR (Passive Infrared) to sense a warm body to detect motion and in addition it senses whether it is light or dark in the area where it is mounted. It has a three position switch on the bottom that has OFF/Automatic/On settings. Off means that it does not operate, On means that it stays on and Auto means that when it senses darkness and motion it will come on and stay on. When the light no longer senses motion it will go off in about 50 seconds.

There are two LED panels and each one has 4 LEDs in them. You can adjust the panels within a 90 degree range and direct the light where you want it to be. The motion sensor can detect motion up to 15 feet away and within a beam angle of 60 degrees from the front of the sensor. The unit comes with a brief instruction sheet, mounting screws and anchors an adhesive Velcro pads. There is a removable back plate that allows you to mount the plate to the wall with Velcro pads and then quickly mount the light in a tool less manner. There is no wiring or tools required to use the light when mounted this way. The light can also be slid sideways and removed from the wall bracket and turned to the On position to act a flashlight in an emergency.

It operates on three AAA batteries that are not supplied. The batteries will last for up to 1800 LED on/off cycles. The light is very bright. In my video I am filming in a very bright room and the LEDs are so bright they dim the camera picture. The LEDs have an average life cycle of 100000 hours when means they could be on two hours a night for 137 years of operation.

This product is ideal to mount near a stairway or an exit path to safely light your way at night when you have an emergency and a power outage. I rate this product at 5 stars.

I was supplied a sample for test and evaluation and I promised to provide a fair and honest review.

There are two settings: "auto" where the light should only turn on when it is dark and there is motion, and "on" when it should always be on. However the light stayed on regardless of whether I had the switch at "auto" or "on". I even went outside on a sunny day, put it on "auto", and the light turned on and stayed on! Mine didn't work as a light or motion sensitive night light. It would function as a flashlight but I want a night light! I went to the company website and it says it is "under constructions", so I assume this is a new, foreign company with weak quality control.

Honest reviews on Hipe 8 LED Automatic Motion-sensing Directional Night Light

I have a cat who is going blind and has been having trouble seeing while she's going up and down on two sets of stairs. There wasn't an outlet for a nightlight so I looked to Amazon for something that would work well and I found it! I ordered three of these lights. They are nice and bright giving her the light that she needs to see much, much better. In fact she's been playing with them making them turn on and off like it's a game. Anything new is always a toy to cats! ;) I'm so glad that they are helping her out and they help us too. We don't have to turn on the overhead light at night to go up and down the stairs. I decided to use the screws to mount the lights and they were very easy to install. I also like that they don't stick out very far from the wall so we won't be bumping into them. Being able to adjust the lights up or down is great also. It helps distribute the light more evenly in the area. The sensors work very well mounted low at cat level but still turn on for us humans. :) These are the best motion lights I've ever had and I'll probably order a couple more for more dark areas in the house. Love these lights and the kitty does too!

I have an older home that has closets with no light fixtures. This LED motion-sensing light is a great solution for me. It has two sets of 4 LEDs that swivel independently so that I can point the light where I need it.

The unit is battery operated and takes 3 AA batteries (not included.) It has a switch which lets you turn it off or continuously on or automatic to only come on when movement is detected. The amount of light is just right for my small closets.

You can mount it using two screws and then attaching via the keyhole openings on the back of the light or you can use the supplied double sided tape on the separate plastic mounting bracket and then slide the light into place on the bracket.

Ivation suggests this for uses in hallways and other areas where it would be nice to have a light that comes on when you need it, but I prefer to have lights that are a safety feature to be the plug-in kind if an outlet is available. I don't want to find myself in a dark hallway one night because the batteries have depleted.

This light is best for use in closets and pantries or cabinets, in my opinion, when light is useful but not available. For applications like that, it works splendidly.

Note: I was provided a sample of this product for review purposes, but no promise was made or implied for a positive review.

For me they are essential, I have an alternate system ba15s lighting bulbs, which are being replaced by mr16 led spotlight, much more efficient, but I had a problem, which involved changing all bulbs holder, with these adapters maintain the duality of bulbs holders

Used these adapters before they work great, able to swivel them slightly to get a true aim at what you are trying to illuminate.

@ 2 dollars each geat buy. the position is fixed and they cannot be rotated for correct placement of directional bulbs. But, they are not all in the same position, so I am able to find 1 or 2 in the set that will work for directional bulbs without modification. the others will require a bend to the bulb wires to get them to aim in the right direction. I would like to see it adjustable and would pay more for that feature, but these work for what I am doing.

Received this today, so far I am liking it very much just one tiny little detail I didn't fancy, I thought since it is also USB rechargeable I thought I can just plug the lamp into the base but it seems that I still need to put batteries in it. I love how the neck part of lamp is bendy!

When we updated our lighting to LED, our old dimmers wouldn't work quite right anymore. This was frustrating at best. I mean, you know how the existing dimmers work; why not design the bulbs around it?

Pros:

Easy to install.

Precise lighting level control for analog.

Matches our existing Cooper Wiring switches.

Cons:

Having to buy a new dimmer for LED bulbs, but it's not like it's their fault.

The product was delivered on time and is not defective in any way.

But I am not crazy about the way they implemented the gooseneck.

It only works if you put the clamp onto a horizontal surface (e.g. the edge of a table).

I wanted to clip it to the headboard of the bed and that just doesn't work. It just flops down if clipped to something vertical like a headboard.

But it works OK if we clip it to the bedside table but that means only one of us can use it.

Apart from the clamp orientation issue, the product is fine. Bright enough and presumably draws less power and produces less heat since it is an LED.

I have owned 2 of these lamps for about 4 months.

I really like

1. the goose neck clip on

2. the initial brightness

3. The ability to direct light in a focused area

I don't like:

1. The quality of the LED. Both lamps, over time have dimmed intermittently and sometimes flicker. Both no longer give off the strong white color, it has become amber.

2. There is no way to change out the LED, so I have to buy new lamps.

Beautiful and very functional, but really disappointed in the LED quality.

Best Deals for Ikea Janso Clamp Energy Saving Led Light

It's well built.

It clips on easily.

The LED is efficient.

BUT it is a little too much of a spotlight for reading, especially with a kindle. It must be aimed off center or it is too bright and causes reflection on the kindle.

If you are doing some kind of detail work where an easy to aim bright light is a plus this might be perfect.

Honest reviews on Ikea Janso Clamp Energy Saving Led Light

We've owned 5 of these: I've had 3 of them, and my wife two. The problem is that after a year or so of nearly daily use, the switch goes bad and the light flickers and/or dims. I've replaced a couple of mine, and the same thing always happens. My wife uses hers maybe once a week, or even less, and they're still in good working order. So unless you need something for just occasional use, I don't recommend this product.

I bought two of these to put on bunk beds. Within a year both started flickering on/off when switched on very irritating. We now jiggle the switches and hope they stay on. They are the reason I'm on Amazon now: looking to replace them.
