Very bright, good design, but horrible construction quality.

When I got it, I noticed the plastic lens was dirty, and several screws were loose and in stripped holes. Within 15 hours of use, the light toggle button started to fail, then the part that locks the light into different angles failed, leaving the light drooping and in need of a certain blue pill.

The part that locks the light into different angles is a pin that is pushed into grooves by a spring to hold the light in position. The spring is sealed in by a square of plastic that wasn't attached very well and broke off from the force of adjustment, sending the small spring flying out.

It is also very hard to remove batteries without damaging them because of a very tight fit.

Now onto what's good about it:

Headband adjustment, weight, and light adjustment are all satisfactory providing the headlamp is still in one piece.

You may or may not be aware that this is a Chinese knock-off of the LED Lenser 88000. This headlamp can do everything that the LED Lenser can do, and is brighter.

The light is much brighter than regular more expensive headlamps like Petzl which are around 50 lumens. So if you're just buying a light for its brightness, get one with a Cree LED. These are the type of people who buy an $80 60 lumens headlamp and give it a 5 star review saying "I love it it's so bright". This one costs much less and is 300 lumens. (Be aware though that lumen ratings do not directly correspond to brightness and may be measured in completely different ways. This headlamp seems about 4x brighter than my 50 lumens Petzl Tikka Plus 2, and about the same as another Chinese headlamp rated at 600 lumens).

However, using this as a life-critical system is a death sentence. You don't want this to be your only source of light. It will fall apart and/or explode.

Instead get something less bright with higher quality like something from LED Lenser, Petzl, Princeton Tec, or Black Diamond.

I replaced this with a Petzl E97 PM Tikka Plus 2 Headlamp, Mystic Gray. It seems about 25% the brightness and doesn't throw the light nearly as far, but the build quality is much better and batteries will last a lot longer in it.

Wanted to see how much better a high lumen headlamp would be compared to my old Coleman one. There is no comparison. This is so bright that it makes my Coleman headlamp and my other led flashlights look like useless toys by comparison. I am now going to buy a high lumen flashlight from the same company. Regarding this headlamp, the quality is not quite as good as the Coleman. The head straps will probably not last as long and the pivoting headlamp is a little difficult to move and only has a few positions, so it cannot be adjusted as much, but there is nothing out there with this light intensity in this price range. Even the high-end headlamps have their own quirks and drawbacks. Bottom line for me is that if Coleman made something like this for $10 or $15 more, I would have bought it, but they don't. I definitely got my money's worth. If you go to the company's website, you can watch their YouTube demonstration videos for every product they sell. I would definitely recommend doing that as well.

Batteries are very hard to install and to take out. couple of screws came off the battery assembly.

While the flashlight is on, one of the batteries would get so hot and eventually it turns off.

Honest reviews on Ultra-Bright CREE 3W Head Lamp 160 Lumen - Zoom Beam Function

I actually love this headlamp despite its defects because it is very bright, and I love the ability to change the focus quickly.

However, when I first put the batteries in, this puppy did not work. The metal contacts in the battery holder are loose and fall out of place every time the batteries are changed, and I have to pull them back into place and try placing batteries in a couple times till it works.

Also, the first day I had it a wire came off of the circuit board (poor solder connection came apart). I was able to dissassemble the head completely (very small parts), and BARELY managed to solder the suuuuuper short wire back onto the board.

The ratcheting peice that enables it to aim downward and click into place popped out off of my forehead a month later, possibly due to my reassembly. It was very difficult to place the spring and ratcheter thingy back into place, and took me about 20 minutes of constant attempts, but I did manage to get it properly in place (apparently not though I guess).

So buyer beware, this is a cheaply made unit where the manufacturer cut way too many corners. But for the price, what's too loose? Buy one and hope you get one that works.

Because of the low purchase price, I was not really expecting high quality light. It came wrapped in plastic with piece of paper simple instruction on on-off, light adjustment and do not look into light warning.

Mine came with parts already broken. Half of plastic clip that hold battery holder in place was broken so the battery pack dangle out loose from band. The light is supposed to be adjustable but mine was locked in place and will not budge no matter what. I looked inside the lens (light is off) and noticed it was full of dust.

After installing the battery I tried out the headlight and for the price the light it gives out is very good. However, the on-off button feels cheaply built. I expect repeated use will eventually cause the switch to fail. There is no weatherproofing so if your light get wet from rain I doubt it will last long.

In closing, this headlight is for people who just want powerful headlight at the cheapest possible price. It almost remind me of a car where only the engine is built properly but everything else is built almost as an afterthought.

These 40 watt equivalent bulbs give off great light and even illumination! Unlike other LED bulbs I've tried, they dim smoothly do not hum when dimmed down.

The light color is comparable to that of an incandescent light -2700K.

I got this ceiling fan for a home office with a half cathedral ceiling. This review is after a week of daily use.

It came with a remote which sits on my desk beside my computer mouse. I don't have to lift or point it to adjust the fan speed. It has six speeds. The lowest is whisper quiet and you can easily forget it's even on; I stretched once and my fingers got clipped! Only the highest speed makes a bit of a noise; speeds 1-5 are pretty quiet; then there's a big sound jump to speed 6. But even the highest speed isn't what I would call "noisy" or annoying.

The five blades purchased separately were labeled "Summer White" on the box, but they don't look very white. They look more beige than white. I intend to spray paint them white to match the ceiling color.

One issue still unresolved is the remote seems to somehow sometimes turn on my other Emerson Eco fan (Carrera) which is down the hall in the master bedroom. Because it doesn't happen every time I use the Avant Eco remote, I don't know what the problem is. I'm not sure if it's possible or easy to change the channel or frequency. Since it rarely happens, I don't worry about it.

I used the 4.5" downrod which came in the box. There are no signs of wobble for the 54" blades with the 4.5" downrod, but note that if you use a longer downrod and/or longer blades, like I do with the other Emerson, wobble could be an issue.

I find the range of speeds helpful to get just the exact right temperature (not too hot/not too cold). Other fans have only three speeds instead of six. But it doesn't have as much power at the top end as I expected.

The big incentives for buying the fan were the low energy use; quiet enough operation to enjoy a nice stereo system; and reduced use of central A/C. Only 17W on speed #1 is pretty impressive; the magnets do most of the work. It is so quiet your stereo will become much more enjoyable in the summer with clean sound. It keeps me comfortable enough when the room temperature is 79F (26C) not to need the A/C. But when the A/C is on, it circulates the air very well so the room cools down much faster.

I don't know if you can find a more quiet ceiling fan from a major brand which uses less energy. I got a second one for my living room.

I bought and installed two of these in an 18 by 32' Great Room with a Cathedral ceiling about 18 feet at its maximum height, chalk white. A word of caution up front: there is some assemblage required and it is easy to soil the chalk white finish. recommend wearing latex gloves, or something to keep your oily skin prints off. They are hard to clean, I found.

A very nice fan with the 54 inch blades. Six speeds, but at the highest speed doesn't look like it's moving very fast. Nevertheless, it moves an awful lot of air. Installed just a few days ago in the summer, and really boosts effect of air conditioning and breeze from outside. My wife is downright chilly unless speed is down to 2 or so. It literally moves the leaves of plants sitting on the floor.

I used a four foot downrod because of high ridge of ceiling. I have a slight wobble at lower speeds in one of the fans, and will refine the installation at another time. The instructions give you specifics about how to trace imbalance and re-balance with weights provided.

Another reviewer mentioned remote interference with another fan. I think this can be easiy fixed by changing the code in the remote. There's a small instruction in the maual how to do this. It's very easy once you find it.

I've had no problems wtih the remotes. Either remote controls both fans simultaneously. I also have two wall switches, which control each fan individually. With switchon fan moves according to speed set by remote.

Very nice....energy efficient...and very, very quiet. There is a big price to this, however. Quite expensive.

I am not necessarily looking forward to a Chicago winter, but I am eager to find out if this will improve the heating efficiecy in this room. As can be imagined, the room is quite chilly in winter, with all forced-air heat rising to the top of the cathedral ceiling. So far, so good. I haven't given it a five, because I haven't had it long enough...and the price is steep... I believe. I paid about $445 for each fan WITHOUT BLADES (and this was a sale price!) Basic stock blades were another $45; and the 4-foot downrod was another $25. (for each fan). I bought at a bricks and mortar retailer so had to add in the outrageous Cook County sales tax.

The product works as described. The night light is very bright, and the buttons are easy to use. We've had it about a week and my kids love it so far. I chose this one because of the plug in feature-no batteries and counter-space needed.

It arrived with the sticker showing what button is for what function separating from the case its self, not by much, but enough to annoy me. I am curious as to how long it will stay on since it is in a bathroom that 3 kids share.

The packaging and the product look cheaply made. Had I seen it in store, I probably wouldn't have bought it unless it was under $3.00.

This product is great a night light and timer combo that really encourages my kids to brush much longer than they have been. It also reminds them to spend a little longer washing their hands. They love to turn the overhead light off and watch the timer when they brush and there's an automatic night light for late night bathroom visits. And it doesn't need batteries!!!!1

I have only had this for a couple of weeks (according to other reviews, that is generally when this little gadget decides to quit working), but I LOVE it. My son was always brushing his teeth in the kitchen so he could time himself on the oven or microwave and now I don't have to clean up toothpaste in the kitchen anymore. All thanks to this little timer! I love the nightlight feature, also I don't like having a bright light in the middle of the night just to use the bathroom this makes the transition from dark-to-light and back to dark much smoother!

We installed three of these Lithonia OLW14 LED Wallpacks about 6 months ago. They really do a nice job of providing downlighting for exit doors. I'd say that the amount of usable light is similar to other 150w Metal Halide fixtures we have used for years. Most all of the light is directed straight down, so you don't really even see the fixture as you approach. The slim design makes for a clean look too. My only issue has been trying to use the built in photocell. The fixture is mounted close to the overhang, and the shadows make the fixture on more than necessary. In future revisions, we'll power a dedicated lighting circuit with a stand-alone photocell or perhaps even a clock timer. Overall, the OLW14 is an excellent light that provides more than enough lighting at exit doors. It's well built, tightly sealed, and reasonably affordable. You won't be disappointed.

I work for a building maintenance crew.

We use these lights for all our buildings (about 12) in sub zero conditions.

We have been using this light for over two years without failure of lights or photo cell. More than enough light output.

Very easy install and light weight.

Highly recommend !

This is a great light. I'll list some of the things that would make it even better:

1. The finish could use some improvement (not bad for China). There were bubbles in the light I purchased.

2. The light comes on too early and stays on too long.

3. If mounted on a brick wall, it would be nice to have a larger base to cover the recepticle.

4. It's too expensive.

Honest reviews on Lithonia OLW14 M2 LED Outdoor Wall Mount Area Light

The light fixture works as described it would. I like the fact that the light sensor is adjustable so it can come on sooner or later as required. The fit and finish is excellent including a quality rubber mounting gasket. I like the pleasent daylight look (5600k) and at night it isnt blinding to look at from a distance which the neighbors appreciate since it is mounted on the front of a 32 x 48 garage.

Absolutely an excellent product and very efficient to operate.

I had high hopes for this bulb because of the price and some reviews. I was very disappointed.

1. I don't know how they can say this is a 40W equivalent. Even a 25W incandescent bulb looked brighter when I compared the two side by side in the same style lamps.

2. The incandescent bulb had a significantly better color output. The LED bulb had a bit of a greenish cast to it and the light distribution was not as good. See the photo I uploaded.

3. These are very expensive bulbs. For the price, I expected much better.

4. The metal part of the bulb does get pretty warm.

5. At least these are better than the cheap-o ones at Walmart, but at a much higher cost.

See the photos I uploaded.

Ok being a early adopter of this stuff I bought one of the 4w bulbs and 13 of the 6w bulbs about a year ago just when they came out after all the good reviews and hype. I figured these would be a life time investment and save me the cost of the bulb over time. Wrong!

Since then the frosting on the 4w bulb turned clear and now it does noting but through rainbows out around the edge of the light and the color looks off, just looks silly, next two of the 6w bulbs have started to buzz. I called the company to warrantee them since they where only 6 months old and got the run around telling me there are only certain dimmers they are compatible with. Funny I never saw that on any package or in there advertisement in fact you have to call the company to get that list it is not even on there web site. So basically I get the feeling they are not going to warrantee them and I got screwed. They have to know the globe not staying frosted is a problem and the buzzing is a issue since they knew right away on the phone how to stone wall me as soon as I said the word buzz.

Anyhow love the bulb the brightness is good had high hopes for this bulb but they are just not lasting so I wouldn't buy them again.

Best Deals for Pharox II

We bought two of these bulbs to try when they first came out. We promptly smoked one of them by trying to run it with an inverter providing a modified sine wave output. Don't try that! The company replaced that one for us, and the two have been in heavy duty use in a bathroom light fixture ever since. They're every bit as bright as a 40 watt bulb (measured by a light meter), and are cool to the touch. And they even have a bit of a "fade" when you turn them off, which is kind of fun. I'm about to order a couple more for lamps where we have CFLs.

Honest reviews on Pharox II

Unlike the previous reviewer I was fairly impressed with this bulb. I'd say it was/is about a 40w replacement & I used it to replace a 25w fluorescent (not quite as strong but fine for my purposes).

I can read in bed with it, it doesn't feel particularly hot, I can't speak to it's longevity since I just bought it.

I like LED's and hope to see the price on them continue to drop.

Yeah, $40 is alot, I agree. If you can afford it though you'll save in the long run.

We have been checking out LED bulbs for several years now. One thing becomes "clear" the more you look into LED's, and that is nothing is as it seems from others description. One persons "opinion of what looks like a 40 watt bulb may look like a 25 watt (or less) to you. Do not buy LED bulbs thinking everything comes in nice neat packages and are as they they seem, this indeed is a grey area. Read all you can on multiple web pages and and then you have to be willing to take a few chances.

This bulb looks like it is about a 25 watt bulb. In fact most LED bulbs as a general rule seem "to me" to have about 50% of the brightness they claim. There are exceptions, but this rule of thumb has kept me from being to disappointed. That and realizing it is "just a light bulb" not a new car! Some people take the small stuff in life way to hard.

That being said, I have found this bulb to work well and give of a light looking to me to be about 25 watts. I like the energy savings, because we are paying more than $0.50 a KWH where we live, making these bulbs an even smaller investment to try out. We did find that outside (back steps, to take the dog in and out) in the cold it does start "flashing on and off." This happens at about -10 or colder. But other than that it works fine.

These are very pretty as is the light they cast. I have about 30 of them. I buy a few at a time and have about 10 to go before I am done (big house).

I've stopped buying until I can figure out an issue.

Appears that approximately every 10th one starts to blink about 1 to 2 hour after turn on. Many wouldn't notice as they might not leave the lights

on that long. Stops if you turn it off for a while, but starts again later. Possible this problem is more widespread as I never turn some of these on

for that long. I am much more worried that perhaps all of them will do it as they age. That would be a complete disaster as I would have no recourse

and be out 4 figures.

These are in open overhead canisters. They do get hot.

Note: I tested a blinking light in different canisters, continues to blink after long warm-up in each location

These lights look nice, they come on instantly, and the color temperature seems right. Oh, and they fit perfectly in our ceiling cans.

The reason I am knocking them down is that they just aren't that bright and they're not really a flood pattern. The light they put out goes pretty much straight down so there are bright circles on the floor that are about 3 feet across. In my office this means that the center of the room has light, but the perimeter is quite dark, including over my desk where I need light. The two can lights are in the center of the ceiling and the room is only 9' or so wide, so it's pretty sad to me that a "flood" light can't even come close to reaching the sides of the room. A proper flood pattern would make these bulbs nice!

Hopefully I can use these somewhere else in the house.

I never fully bought into CFLs. I love the idea of saving power and replacing bulbs less frequently (especially those that require a ladder to reach), but CFLs have a number of annoyances: they take a long time to warm up, they aren't dimmable, they seem to buzz slightly, their light isn't quite the right color for my taste, and they're made with mercury, which is toxic.

I randomly stumbled across this bulb on Amazon and was excited I didn't realize that LED spotlights were finally ready for prime-time. I decided to buy one as a test about a month ago.

I've been very happy with it. On all accounts, it's better than the CFLs. It turns on nearly instantly (not quite as fast as an incandescent, though -perhaps a quarter of a second between when I hit the switch and when the room illuminates). It's silent. The light from this bulb is bright, clean white. It uses no mercury. It dims! It supposedly has a longer lifetime, though I haven't owned it long enough yet to confirm that. And, compared to incandescent bulbs, it uses a tiny fraction of the power for the same light. With my old halogen bulbs, the studio light I use for my office would get so hot I couldn't even touch the can for 10 minutes after turning the light off. This LED bulb is much cooler while operating. While the bulb itself is too warm to touch while operating, the can it's in remains cool. It gives me a nice warm fuzzy feeling that I'm not burning a ton of electricity on pointless heating (which then has to be removed by my air conditioning, paying for it twice.)

While this bulb has been a huge success in my office studio light, the one downside to this particular model is that it's too big to fix into my recessed ceiling fixtures. I still have to find a smaller one for that, and then I'll probably upgrade the unholy mixture of CFLs and incandescents in the kitchen to 100% LED.

I also own a small Cessna aircraft, and was so happy with the technology that I upgraded my landing and taxi lights to LEDs too -not using these particular bulbs, since the aircraft is certificated, but with FAA-approved PAR36 LED bulbs made by Whelen.

Not a bad light for the price but it has 3 LED's that do not work. Not worth the hassle to return it, I'll open it up and see if it's just a bad connection at those points.

The internals on some of these imports look like they were soldered with a blowtorch by somebody that was running at the time. It is bright, I'll give you that.

The white 24LED array is very powerful. Most consider it blinding, and is useful for distance. The rubberized handle gives it a nice quality feel. Although I haven't used magnetic back yet, I have used the hanger several times.

I especially like the wide beam and distance. You can't get this throw from other products.

What I really liked is the way this light could be positioned. The tripod legs bend in any direction. The light can be tilted as needed. The little colored bands are rubberized so when you twist them around something they stay put. The feet are likewise rubberized so they stay put even if placed on a slanted surface. Inside of each foot is a magnet and any one of then is capable of supporting the weight of the entire light.

What I found misleading is the dimmer switch. This is actually a light with two levels of output, all the way on and about half way on. You adjust this by twisting a knob and might be able to catch some slight variations between the two but they are not really that useful even if they were easier to set.

What I didn't like was the beam focus. The center is tiny and really too bright. If you use it to light what your working on it is frequently so bright you have to look away. Outside the tiny center it's usually too dim to be of much good.

I fixed that problem for two cents. (Actually, probably lots less but I'm too lazy to do the arithmetic.) What I did was cut a 3" square of Glad Pressing Seal 3 Pack and put it over the light. It acts as a diffuser and produces an evenly bright, wider angle beam that is (IMHO) perfect.

Finally, if you are considering this light you may also want to check out the Joby Gorillatorch Flare Adjustable and Flexible Tripod Flashlight. It's similar to this one and the video review I've posted there provides a comparison between the two models.

BTW, I feel that honest, effective reviews, accompanied by detailed videos, can take the place of first-hand experiences that are often lacking in online shopping. I've always appreciated the help I've received from other reviewers and try to return the favor as best as I can. I hope you found this review helpful and the video at least entertaining. If there was anything you thought was lacking or unclear leave a comment and I'll do what I can to fix it.

I just received the Gorillatorch and have been testing it. In the short time I have tested it, I have found it to be an excellent idea with a good implementation.

Pros:

* The LED used in the unit is very bright and in conjunction with the dimmer function allows an excellent range of illumination

* The legs consist of multiple ball and socket joints that allow easy positioning with good rigidity.

* Each ball has a rubber-like ring around it (the gray rings in the photos) which provides a good friction grip when wrapped around an object.

* The tripod feet have the same covering as the rings giving it a low slip tripod base.

* The tripod feet contain strong magnets that hold the tripod securely to a metal surface in any orientation (up, down or sideways).

* The Battery/Lamp reside in a single assembly so there is no restriction on rotating the light.

Cons:

* The unit I received has a battery compartment electrical contact issue. The battery compartment cover contains contacts that connect the battery (+) terminals with the unit body. This contact can be affected by tapping on the case, turning the lamp off and back on when it is switched on.

* The dimmer works well, but is non-linear in operation. The dimmer/switch rotates over approx. 220 degrees, but the dimmer operates over the last 90 degrees.

* The light produced is very similar to a flashlight a bright center with a less bright surrounding light ring. As the primary use for the unit is as a work light a change to create a more uniform lighting area would allow the LED's brightness to be better used.

Overall this is a very good product that with minor gripes, delivers what it promises

This is a great idea that is well implemented mostly. The standard Gorilla three-legged grips are great, and the magnetic feet have a stronger attraction and holding power than I expected. Where this falls down is the light. It casts a wide, but very uneven beam. It is super bright in the center, but falls off quickly to very little illumination beyond that. As an example; from two feet away, the super bright center is about 2"-3" in diameter. Immediately past that, the output falls by 80-90%. And there is no way to adjust that, something that is common with many flashlights. There is no adjust-ability of the reflector to broaden or tighten the beam. You're stuck with that hot center.

All in all, I'd call it a good attempt marred by lack of one major feature. It's still a potentially great product if that one issue isn't important for you. But the addition of that one adjustment would make it a truly great item.

Honest reviews on Joby Gorillatorch Adjustable and Flexible Tripod Flashlight, Gray

I have used this for camping, reading, and electrical work. I am amazed by how strong the magnets are and they attach easily to metal. It's not large so you can carry it like a regular flashlight and use it in tight spaces. Also, the bulb is a Cree which is more expensive than a LED. You can dim the light by turning the knob instead of having to click to pre-set light levels. I highly recommend this as a gift if you don't know what to give.

A bendy-legged light should make itself handy. And the Gorillatorch can hold itself in position in some situations. But the product design could be improved.

* The switch has a very light detent so it's easy to accidentally turn the light on and drain the batteries.

* The light focus is too tight for many uses. An adjustable beam would be nice but failing that a wider beam would be more versatile.

* The light and its legs are quite bulky, even when scrunched up.

A good LED headlamp is a much better alternative for the majority of uses this light might serve. I'm a bit of a flashlight gadget nut and would be hard pressed to recommend this light. Perhaps if you often have to open your car's hood and you can frequently use the magnetic feet. Most of the time, I'm having to pull steel tools and hardware from the light so I find the magnets more of an annoyance than a cool feature.

LED BASICS: A regular "incandescent" bulb produces light via a thin filament of wire (actually a tiny coil) that glows white hot at thousands of degrees Fahrenheit. LEDs are solid-state devices--a cousin of the transistor--that produce light as a byproduct of electrons "dropping" orbital levels.

LED VS. INCANDESCENT: I can think of 5 reasons to buy an LED flashlight over a regular incandescent flashlight:

1) An LED will usually last for tens-of-thousands of hours. In regular use, it shouldn't burn out.

2) White LEDs are so "white" that they make incandescent bulbs look dull yellow by comparison.

3) LEDs tend to be more rugged than incandescent bulbs,

4) LEDs don't eat batteries quite as fast as equivalent-light incandescent bulbs

5) LED flashlights tend to stay bright until they abruptly die

Their only disadvantage is that they cost more, though this up-front cost may be ameliorated over time since you should never need to buy another bulb.

Whiter-than-White--our eyes perceive white light with a slight blue tinge as being whiter than true white. White LEDs tend to cater to this bias, so we see their light as being REALLY white. The end result is that LED bulbs make incandescent bulbs look dull yellow by comparison.

Ruggedness--Some LEDs employ two thin wires that connect their substrate to the leads, but the LED's plastic body holds these wires immobile. Common sense would indicate that these two wires are probably less prone to damage than the thin, unsupported coiled filament in a regular incandescent bulb that glows at 3000+ degrees Fahrenheit. I have never managed to break a Maglite LED bulb, though I've dropped one several times on grass, carpet, and concrete. Finally, LED bulbs are used in "tactical lights" that are attached to handguns without the rubber buffering rings that incandescent bulbs required.

Battery Duration--When I first bought this flashlight, I put fresh Duracells in it and also in a regular Maglite and turned them both on. Technically, both lasted for 24 hours, but at the end of that period the regular Maglite's beam was an unusable dull orange glow while the LED flashlight still produced a beam you could read by. Furthermore, after letting the batteries rest for a day, I turned the LED flashlight back on and it burned for another 6 hours!

Maglite's Competition--These days, you can buy small LED flashlights that are smaller than a roll of quarters that put out more light than this Maglite. I own several of them myself. However, these flashlights tend to be powered by photo or AAA batteries, so they typically don't last more than an hour or two between battery changes. Only the expensive units tend to match Maglite's lifetime warranty. Finally, many of the small LED flashlights don't have adjustable beams. You can adjust this Maglite's beam to see a wide area close up or a small object in the distance by rotating its head.

Maglites have enjoyed a well-deserved reputation as being quality-built flashlights. There are more expensive gee-whiz flashlights out there like the amazing 4Sevens Quark, but Maglites are generally recognized as your basic, solid "working man's" flashlight. Keep fresh batteries in them and they'll never let you down. On the offchance you buy a lemon that fails after a few years, rest assured that Maglite honors its lifetime warranty. Once, they even upgraded my broken unit to a newer one (like they did for H. Ngai in my "Comments" section). They also makes comforting clubs if need be.

The 2-D cell version of MAGLITE LED Flashlight (ST2D016) is rated for 114 lumens light output, and 9 hours 15 minutes runtime. The 3-D cell version (ST3D016) is rated for 104 lumens, but suppose to have an incredibly long runtime of 72 hours. I find this claim very hard to believe based on simple physics, which is why I have to verify it for myself.

Before we start, please bear in mind that most of the older Amazon reviews are based on first-generation MagLite LED flashlights. The two MagLite LED flashlights I tested are both second-generation models, which contain the following improvements:

Brighter Luxeon Rebel ES 3W LED

Better optical reflector design

Better battery utilization

(See my upload in the Customer Images section, if you need to find out whether your Maglite has the 2nd-gen LED technology)

EXTERIOR:

From the outside, both 2-D and 3-D Maglite LED flashlights have exactly the same shape and finish. Of course the 3-D version is longer, but the difference is not as dramatic as one would imagine. That's because the 2-D version actually has the length of four D cells stack together. So the 3-D version is only 25% longer.

INTERIOR:

There is a subtle difference in the positive contact inside the two Maglite flashlights. The ST2D has a slightly recessed contact point, which means if the first battery's positive terminal is just slightly wider than that of a standard alkaline cell, it will not make electrical contact. So initially I was not able to use any rechargeable D cells (such as the Energizer D Rechargeable NiMH) in it. I have to add a tiny solder bump to the positive terminal for it to work.

BRIGHTNESS:

On paper, the ST2D should produce more light output than ST3D (114 lumens vs. 104). But in real life, I cannot tell which flashlight is brighter even in a side-by-side comparison. They both have the same LED and the same optical reflector design, which means they should generate the same brightness as long as they are driven at the same power.

POWER CONSUMPTION:

According to my own measurements, both versions consume roughly the same input power (hence light output) with fresh alkaline cells. The main difference is in how the input power changes over battery voltage range.

For the ST3D, input power is tightly regulated at 1.9-2W as long as the battery voltage is over 3.5V. Below 3.5V, however, the power drops rapidly. The light becomes nearly useless when battery voltage drops below 3V.

For the ST2D, input power is not as well-regulated. It consumes about 1.7W at 3.0V (two fresh alkaline cells). As the battery falls all the way down to 1.5V, the input power actually increases to almost 2.2W. Below 1.5V, the input power drops off quickly, but the light is still useable even at 1.0V!

(See the "Input Power vs. Battery Voltage" chart in Customer Images section)

RUNTIME:

A typical alkaline D-cell is rated for about 9,000mAh when delivering a constant current of 500mA. So its total energy (assuming an average voltage of 1.3V) is about 12Wh. Based on my energy calculations:

Two alkaline D cells should be able to power the ST2D for about 12 hours at full brightness.

Three alkaline D cells should be able to power the ST3D for about 20 hours at full brightness.

There is absolutely no way three alkaline D cells can sustain 2W for 72 hours, because that will require each cell to pack 48Wh of energy. Why did MagLite rate the runtime for ST3D as '72 hours'? I can only imagine that's the time it takes for the light to drop to 10% of its full brightness.

CONCLUSION:

The 2-D and 3-D versions of MagLite LED flashlights are identical in terms of built-quality, light output, and beam shapes. The main difference is their runtimes. But this difference is more like 12 hours (for 2-D) verses 20 hours (for 3-D), instead of 9 verses 72 as Maglite claimed.

Presently, the two versions are priced similarly. So unless you expect to use your Maglite as an impact weapon, the shorter 2-D version may be a better choice.

Overall this light is a nice light for the low cost. The construction is classic Mag; durable and able to stand up to daily use. Battery life seems to be fairly long with normal use. The light output is a lot nicer than standard halogen bulbs with a white color output that makes standard lights look "yellow." The focusing ability is perfect to give you a very small focused spot that should throw far. The only downside is with wide beam focusing which has noticeable "rings" of light. Overall this is a nicely built light for everyday use.

Honest reviews on Mag - Lite Mini Mag - Lite "AA" LED Flashlight

After hours of research, I decided to go with this flashlight. First, you CAN NOT beat the quality of Maglite at any price. I have one over 10 years old that still works like new despite the droppings, the scratches and dings. Secondly, the specs on this model are impressive, 114 lumens with a spot light range of 298 meters all with a run time of 9 hours and 15 minutes. The bright white is spectacular compared to the old bulbs. I have attached a video shot in my bedroom approximately 15 feet away from a white wall showing the differences in light quality. The video will say it all.

The only other model I would consider is the 3-D cell LED Flashlight that unfortunately Amazon was out of stock a couple of days ago when I bought 2 of these models instead, one black and one red. Regardless, I DO NOT regret my decision.

I agree that these flashlights work great for what they are, however, I have already blown 2 LED modules by dropping the flashlights by accident, once myself, and once by my 2 year old. The LEDs pop out of their housing rendering them uselsss. At that point all you can do is pull out the spare filiment bulb provided with the flashlight and use it. The replacement LED's run almost 25 dollars. Not a good deal if you ask me. Buyer beware......

In brief use this product is working well. Some technical data you may find helpful:

1. Product is 10 pieces of 0.5m flex, with 30 LEDs each, joined end to end by solder, with continuous adhesive backing.

2. Product can be cut at each 3-LED increment, marked with a silk-screened dash. (Each increment has 3 LEDs and one resistor, in series)

3. Solder pads are present at every 3-LED increment, though soldering to the existing "joins" every 0.5 meters will be easiest because they already have solder blobs.

4. With a regulated 12 volt supply, total load for the 5m chain is about 1 Amp. Voltage drop at the end of 5m is 10%.

I ordered this 5 Meter reel of 300 LEDs hoping that they would be bright enough to serve as under-cabinet lights to brighten my counter tops. Not only are they bright enough, they can be cut into sections as small as 2" (with 3 LEDs) and put just about anywhere. With simple soldering skills and some light gauge wire, it is possible to place these light strips into just about any configuration.

A single strip of these LEDs are bright enough to make the countertop bright, but my application has given me almost twice the LED ribbon that I need. I plan to double-up on the LEDs by running an additional strip behind the front strip giving me additional light. If this is too much, I can always dim down to an appropriate level.

Along with the LED reel, I also purchased PWM Dimming Controller For LED Lights or Ribbon, 12 Volt 8 Amp, 3301 and 30 Watt LED Power Suppply Driver Transformer 120 to 12 Volt DC Output, 3207. The dimmer works wonderfully and the power supply seems to have enough zip to keep things bright!

As a professional remodeler, I have install under counter/ under cabinet lighting in various applications. This LED ribbon is superior to any halogen, quartz or fluorescent fixture. Minimal energy usage, great flexibility, extremely easy to install. I cut this to the length I need and then solder the power leads to the transformer. You can see from the pictures I added, the illumination is very even and consistent.

Don't bother buying the halogen or quartz or xenon undercab lights. They get too hot, bulbs frequently burn out and the replacements are expensive.

I even connected the left over 12" to a 12v battery and it worked great. Might utilize in the bed of the truck.

Unfortunately, I bought this from a local lighting supply and paid $140 for 13' of ribbon and transformer. Next time I will buy on Amazon.

Honest reviews on LEDwholesalers 5 Meter Reel Warm White 3100K Flexible LED Ribbon

I am an owner of a lighting and lamp shop. I purchased many reels of LED strip to do a small test. Everyone knows that LED will be the next generation of the lighting but LED is more complicate than the halogen light. So people sometimes feel difficult to find out the right LEDs, especially online. Home Depot carries all kinds of LED lamp but none of the LED strip. So I hope my review will be helpful for all of you on Amazon.

The strips I compared are the most basic products: cool white and warm white, waterproof and non-waterproof. All the LED strips came in different quality and brightness. I am satisfied with five of the strips. These five strip have high lumen, good color and 3M tape is good. So I recommend them:

HitLights LED Flexible Lighting Strip Cool White or Bright White, 5 Meter or 16 Ft, 3528 Type, 300 SMD, 24 Watt

This cool white LED has the highest brightness and the color is about 6000K which will be very closed to the tube. I think this one should be enough for most of the people. Also, the best part is the price is very reasonable and even cheaper than some low quality strip. So I highly recommend this one.

16.4 Feet 300 SMD LED Flexible Strip with Waterproof Sleeve,12 Volt Clear White LED Ribbon 5 Meter Reel,3528CW By CBconept

This strip have a good rubber sleeve protect the strip and the color is around 6000K too. But since it doesn't have the 3M tape. So be careful. If you really need the waterproof cool white strip, this is your option.

5 Meter Reel Warm White 3100k Flexible LED Ribbon 300 Leds 16 Ft by LEDwholesalers, 2026ww-31k

This strip have a neutral color, around 3000K to 3500K which is between cool white and warm white. The color is special and I believe some one will need that. The 3M tape is great and stick the strip really well.

HitLights LED Flexible Lighting Strip Warm White, 5 Meter or 16 Ft, 3528 Type, 300 SMD, 24 Watt

This one have a better price and warmer color. It is from hitlights so the quality is the same as the first one I just mentioned before.

HitLights Waterproof LED Flexible Warm White Lighting Strip, 3528 Type, 300 LED, 5 Meter or 16 Ft, 24 Watt, 12 Volt

This is the only warm white LED strip I found on Amazon. The quality is good and the LED is bright. Good choice for the people who need warm white LED strip in outdoor use.

Finally, I realized that hitlights and led wholesaler are the top two quality on Amazon. I also found both of them have more LED products in other vendors. In other word, they are more professional in LED. Obviously, led wholesaler has even more products but higher price while hitlights only has the popular led products and the price is more reasonable. I will say both of them are good LED sellers.

IMPORTANT: Do not energize the lights while they are on the reel as shown in the advertising photos!!! I did that to test the power supply and light strip before installation, and the other end of the light strip had two wires that were shorted together resulting in the lights coming on then dropping out after a few seconds when the power supply protection kicked in. I thought it was a bad power supply, and then hooked the led light strip up to a car battery and it got VERY HOT very quickly. Fortunately I felt the heat and immediately disconnected the battery... then unrolled the strip off the reel and found the connections on the other end shorted together. Well doggone it all anyhow. Fortunately there appeared to be no damage to either the power supply or light strip, so I used them anyway, and they are working great.

These lights work very well, with a single strip is enough to very nicely light the area under the kitchen cabinets.

The light is esthetically very pleasing, being essentially hidden but giving a uniform nearly shadow free light for working the kitchen. The warm color temperature is pleasing, matching other warm lights in the kitchen reasonably well. The LED's can be seen in the reflection off the counter, but that is not distracting or unpleasant, and actually adds a but of "light" bling to the area.

I did not use a dimmer, since it was easy to add one later if needed. The illumination level is comfortable as it is, and so we do not plan on adding a dimmer.

Installation was relatively easy. I took the 120 ac from the existing light over the sink, put the power supply for the LED lights in that area, and then ran the wiring either through or under cabinets as needed to conceal the wiring and LED light strips. The light strip tape adhesive has proven to work well so far (even after being overheated), no problems with the light strip falling. I think that soldering the wires to the LED strips was the hardest part, small wires being soldered to a tiny spot on the light strip is more tedious than difficult, but if you do not have experience soldering I suggest using the slip on connectors.

Most importantly my wife like the lights very much.
