Needed a bright light for a dark doorway and front porch area.

Couldn't get into the attic to run electrical wire so I went with this.

PROs:

-no battery waste since the area MUST be DARK before the motion detector will turn on the light.

I forget where I saw the specifications online but the light output from the LED, on HIGH setting, is like 80+ Lumens.

Light throws a wide ring of light. Great for several people to see their way around the front or back door at night time.

2 times settings for how long the light stays on: either 30 seconds or 2 minutes

2 settings for light intensity.

CONs:

would have liked to see this unit be dual-powered, like via the 3-D cells AND a DC power adapter (when it is used inside)

I have installed 3 of these, one for myself and 2 for family members.

Depending on how you configure the light intensity and duration settings, the 3-D cells may last up to 6 month. We get about 4-6 months.

I have medium sized decorative pond that gets harsh western sun from about noon until sunset. Ironically, the algae got worse in winter. Visibility in the pond was down to about 1 inch. It was positively disgusting and it stank.

2 week after putting the Pondmaster UV filter into the pond, the water was clear as crystal.

However, as the manufacturer indicates, "filter" isn't the proper terminology. It's a sterilizer. It doesn't eliminate the need for a normal bio filter. This kills the algae and other parasites so the bio filter can remove them from the water. If you have a particularly green pond (as I did) clear the filter pads weekly until you've regained control over the algae.

Again, note that the UV system addresses free algae not the string algae that grows on the sides. It's basic logic if the algae is stuck to the side, then it can't pass through the steriliser to be killed.

Change your filter pads regularly until you've gotten past the 2-3 week period when you're waiting for the pea soup to vanish. All that dead algae needs to be removed. Make sure you get any old leaves out too that will speed things up.

If you don't see results, make sure you have the right wattage, and also adjust the pump to ensure the water isn't moving to fast. Algae cells need about 1-2 full seconds exposure to the lamp to break the cell membrane and kill them.

Bottom line it does PRECISELY what it says.

My UV clarifier is probably 10 or 11 months old and it's already dead. The bulb burned out about 6 weeks ago, well short of its 1 year expected life, and was replaced. Last weekend I noticed the light was dead. I replaced the $80 bulb, plugged it back in, and nothing. The UV clarifier is dead. Typical. Can't anyone many anything that actually works anymore?

It's also annoying that the input and output tubes have such a tiny diameter. I think they went out of their way to find a size that was difficult to convert to more standard sized tubes.

EDIT: I was very mad when I wrote the above. The next day I contacted Pondmaster to complain, but they quickly began to resolve my problem. They sent out a new ballast which arrived in a few days and a complimentary bulb. The new ballast works fine. They made this process extremely easy for me and they didn't need to. This was an example of how a company can turn a bad situation into a favorable one because after this experience I wouldn't think twice about purchasing another Pondmaster product.

I have the product a 1 because it broke when it shouldn't have, but after seeing their customer service in action I'd like to change it to a 4 but I can't. I won't change it to a 5 because I still find the UV's tiny in/out pipes annoying ;)

Best Deals for Pondmaster 02940 40-Watt Ultra Violet Light Pond Water Clarifier

I have used the 40 watt Pondmaster units for several years. Generally they do an excellent job of clarifying the water. Three units keep my 6000 gallon pond very clear. However, the ballast is subject to damage because the gasket around the quartz sleeve pushes into a pressure switch at the base of the unit. After using the unit for a few years, the gasket becomes distorted, lets water into the electical fixture, allowing the ballast to burn out. A replacement ballast costs over $100 and is difficult to find. I have a collection of four or five burned out ballasts that can't be repaired. Since bulbs last about two seasons, it generally costs about the same amount to buy a new unit as it does to replace all of the parts (ballast, quartz sleeve, and bulb). Hopefully this is not a deliberate strategy by the company to sell replacemente units, but one has to wonder.

Honest reviews on Pondmaster 02940 40-Watt Ultra Violet Light Pond Water Clarifier

I rarely write a review, but wanted to say a few words that might help anyone thinking about buying this product. The water in my pond looked like pea soup. I did partial water changes and cleaned the filter twice a day, nothing seemed to help. Finally I bought this, although I was kind of a skeptic. The first few days I didn't think it was doing anything, but as the days went by it got better and better. After a couple of weeks the water was crystal clear. Amazing!

The clarifier does NOT come with attachments to connect it into the pump and into the filter. We took it to the hardware store to figure out what parts we needed to connect it all, so be prepared!!

I am well into year 2 of my new pond, I have a 15,000 gal. Koi pond and utilize 4 of the 40 watt units. My pond water has gone from green to pretty clear.

I had a problem within weeks of installation, with one of the 4 units. I also was ready to give a poor rating on this product for bad customer service ..... but after several e-mails to Susan(SusanM@DannerMfg.com), she was able to rectify my problem with a defective ballast and is sending me a new one, along with a new quartz sleeve and a new bulb. (would have been easy if I had only had kept my reciept word to the wise Keep your reciept).

I would recommend this product again Patience please if you have problems with your unit. Susan just needed proof of purchase and date bought to allow her to make everything right (so it falls within the one year warranty). Business is business and I purchased it knowing it was a one year warranty. If there is a defect, I am confident the company will make good.

** However, I would like to see a modification to allow cleaning of the glass sleeve to be a bit easier.

PS This spring I added more 40 watt units to my large Savio skimmer/filters. This seems to be the final touch my water needed. Now I can easily see the small stones at the bottom of my 5 1/2 ft deep pond.

* I strongly agree with the previous fellow, Clean your filters daily (2X a day if needed until your water clears up), your UV lights won't work properly if its full of dirty water. If you don't have bio-filters, GET ONE (or two), they make a big difference and complete the natural filtration/cleaning process (savio makes a nice one).

This little jewel is not very well marketed by Rayovac, even though it has some unique features. I've had it for a few years and I highly recommend it over the headlamps offered by all high-end brands, like Petzl or BD...

Good features:

* Uses *only* 1 AA battery

This is a unique feature. A single AA rechargeable battery packs 2600mAH, i.e. the same amount as 3 AAA batteries, yet weights less. More importantly, it is very easy to change in total darkness. Not so for 3 AAA batteries that need to be inserted in different directions. Also having a handful of new and used AAA batteries in a bag is a mess.

* Regulated power

Because it uses only 1 battery, it has built in a voltage converter and regulator. This means the light output stays consistent, but will die quite suddenly. Fortunately you can use the smaller LEDs once the main LED is done. Also it is very easy to change the battery with your eyes closed.

* 1 Watt main LED

Comparing to a Black Diamond Cosmo (0.5W LED, 3 AAA batteries), it is brighter. The beam is also naturally well focussed for long distance beam.

* Warm white

A lot of other white LEDs tend to be bluish, maybe because it's easier to pump power in the blue. Anyhow, the glow is comfortable and easy to read with, more natural. I have used the headlamp for photo fill in (painting night scenes) with success.

* Light Diffuser

When you need to see stuff nearby, flip the diffuser on. It spreads very effectively the beam into a uniform ambient light in front of you over a solid angle of about 30 degrees. Perfect for cooking and the likes. The diffuser flips sides, either over the main LED, or the aux LEDs.

* Red LEDs

These 2 red LEDs are enough output to allow you to get around. Red light is useful at night as it doesn't damage your night vision, so you can stay sensitive to your surroundings. Astronomers and photographers know that.

* Water resistant

I actually washed it once, and found it when it fell out when puling my clothes out of the dryer. Still works like a charm. Can' say that about your iphone!

* Very light, 68 grams with the strap, 50-ish without (includes battery weight).

*Sturdy

Besides the weaknesses listed below, and maybe the diffuser could be broken off (say by a kid), it's built in one piece, everything welded shut in one piece, switch is also under water resistant rubber. In fact I would've preferred if it was not, I would have opened it and replaced the blue LED to make it perfect.

Weaknesses:

* Blue LED

They should have made the 4th LED white, not blue. Supposedly blue helps detect blood and such, but who cares. I would've preferred it to be white, the low power white would be useful for when you want the flashlight to last 100s of hours.

* Angle adjustment is flimsy

The light can be angled downwards, controlled by a plastic flap that clicks in different angles, and a screw that provides friction/holding power. That is the less rugged part of the flashlight, and will eventually fail slowly. My flashlight is now held up with duct tape (works pretty well).

* Battery life

Because of the design choice, the headlamp holds up only for a night, unless you use the auxiliary LEDs. Power levels, available on many competing products would be a plus. Since the aux LED choices are red or blue, this is a flaw. Fortunately, like I said, changing battery is a breeze. Do the math: 2600mAH battery at 1.2V = 3 watt hour. So the battery should last 3 hours... So not a good emergency/survival flashlight, but awesome for car camping.

I bought this light for backpacking. It has one advantage over the much higher priced lights in that the diffuser can be placed over the 1 watt spot light for close work or it can be swung out of the way for distant spotlighting. The Red light option allows the use of the light without attracting insects. At some times of the year, if you use the white light, your head is surrounded by a cloud of small insects.

I also discovered that the on/off button can easily be activated by accident so before putting the lite back in the pack, give the battery cap one turn backwards and try the on/off button... it should no longer work. Just tighten the battery cap and the on/off button will function again.

I have also found that battery storage is no longer a problem... I discovered Powerpax () which is the most compact, battery storage I've ever used. (when the lights go out, it's a real plus to have a battery pack that glows in the dark).

i am on my second sportsman xtreme headlight. the first one lasted for a couple of years being used primarily for nighttime jogging in a poorly to non-lit area.

the 40 or 50 lumens from the LED white spot would place a round beam of light bright enough to where i would never have to worry about tripping over anything and would allow me to see the eyes of nocturnal creatures in the woods i ran alongside.

with the diffuser slid over the spot the light makes a handy task-light for dark spaces or taking out trash cans at night providing a broader field of light.

the unit also has a red or blue led for emergency applications.

the only problem i had was eventually the axle that the light housing rotated on for level adjustment broke or lost tension ( i solved this by using a cable tie around the light housing)...i may have dropped it one too many times and i tightened the battery lid down to much cracking the lid.

a single AA battery seemed to provide a few hours of light.

all in all flexible headlight with good battery life at a reasonable price. recommended.

Honest reviews on Rayovac SE1WHLT-B Sportsman Xtreme 1-Watt Multi Function 4LED

I have had these lights since they came out in 07 and fortunately they still make em. I am a flashlight nut as I use them for at least an hour every day. I am always on the lookout for a new design that is better but have not found one better than this light as of sept 2012.

It is extremely lightweight! 60grams

Awesome light output!! 45 to 50 lumens

Throw distance is excellent! 50 feet spot

Diffuser for wide angle close vision.

1AA battey is common.

This light is nearly perfect so I can see why no one has made a better one. I hope rayovac never quits making them. Also the build quality is very good. As some have mentioned water resistant I've seen em survive wash machine. I've had at least 6 of these through the years and never seen one completely die. Usually I get a new one because the headband wears out.

I would like to see Rayovac modify this design to

use the cree LED not to increase light output but to increase runtime. Change to a lithium rechargable battery (probably nothing avail) and swap blue to white LED. As long as those changes didn't change the size it would be perfect!

All in all a fantastic light!! Thank You Rayovac

Do agree with all the remarks made from previous 9 comments. But there are many domestic and commercial occasions to use this item.

Cooking and washing dishes for instance. Wife uses hers for various needle work and knitting. This household has a collection of four RAYOVAC/REMINGTON head lamps, all different models, this unit is mostly controlled by "that woman" because it is light weight and battery change out is very friendly. And if there are failure issues, Rayovac does hustle to make good. Enough said. Would reccomend this to the first time buyer.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program First of it has a lamp that works very good.

I think he likes the iPOD attachments. It plays OK but not going to give that BIG BASS.

It does not charge but my kids charge their iPOD on the computer so no so big a deal.

The organizer holds lots of little stuff like pens, pencils and other stuff you might need doing homework.

It plugs in to the wall and is very convenient!

When I first opened the iHome, it looked pretty cool. It's very modern. Some of the things I disliked were that the touch sensitive light switch was hard to use as it didn't recognize my finger, and it usually takes me about 5 seconds to turn the light on and off. I didn't find the dimming feature until I experimented with it a little bit more. There is a little hole next to the stem of the light for storing the audio jack, which is cool, but if the cord is pugged in without a music player plugged in the other end, it makes a buzzing noise. The stand is very convenient if the headphone jack is on the top of your device, otherwise, it won't stand up. Overall, it's a pretty solid device. I would recommend it for anyone looking for good value and a modern, colorful look.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I love the bright purple that livens up my desk and I love that my pens, pencils, and highlighters all have their own divided space.

I love the brightness of the light...really illuminates my workspace, yet can be turned off with one touch.

But it's so versatile...because the gooseneck is easily adjustable, you can also shine the light on your face for tweezing or make makeup!

As far as the sound goes by plugging in your iphone or ipad, or ipod, I think it's great for this tiny workhorse. However, it won't charge your device so it can run low fairly quickly because of that but because of the way it plugs in, I actually think it offers better sound. (as though you are plugging in earphones)

It's on my desk at all times...it is amazing how a little light helps your work station but the fact that it doubles as a music player and pen and pencil holder make it a perfect desk mate.

Best Deals for iHome iPad/iPod/iPhone Speaker/LED Desk Lamp With Organizer (White)

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This is the perfect little audio/task/desk lamp. It is light weight & very easy to transport from location to location as needed. The goose neck is very convenient allowing me to get the light just where I need it. The light quality & color is very good in a focused area. It is not suitable for room lighting.

The on/off touch feature is not always as sensitive as I'd like. It took too long to learn how to use. It is not as sensitive as the pretty little glass touch lamps I had in the past. I have found that the easiest way to get mine to work with one touch is to quickly clamp the head of the light between my thumb & fingers & then let go.

The audio feature is not as perfect as the manufacture would like you to believe. It doesn't provide "...full depth, clarity and power" However, it does the trick if you are using the lamp to work by. The volume is loud enough & the quality is good enough. This isn't a sound system after all! I find it very useful for listening to my iPod. The little caddy is great for storing small items. Currently I've been using it to hold my cell phone & various pens & pencils. Everything is right there when I need it.

My biggest peeve is that it is a noisy energy vampire. When a device is not hooked up to the little cord & with the lamp on or off it hums. It is very annoying. In order to not hear the hum you have two options: 1. Remove the little cord from the lamp entirely or 2. Unplug the lamp from the socket or turn off your power strip depending on what method you use.

Please note that this lamp does NOT charge your device.

While I don't care for the somewhat cheap looking plastic, I love what it can do. Overall I'm pretty happy with this little lamp & do not regret owning it.

Honest reviews on iHome iPad/iPod/iPhone Speaker/LED Desk Lamp With Organizer (White)

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program My review of this is very similar to what others are saying.

1. The light part is nice.

2. The speakers are ok if you get this unit for $39, but a bit of a rip-off if you pay the full $79.

3. The plastic looks very cheap.

4. The set up you have to do by plugging in a small cord from your ipod's earplug port to the back of the light is awkward for ipods that have the jack on the bottom.

5. Why didn't they include a USB port and cable so that your ipod/ipad could be recharging or at least plugged in and not using its battery?

6. The tap function of the light is nice.

Bottom line: I think there are better products out there.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for iHome iPad/iPod/iPhone Speaker/LED Desk Lamp With Organizer (White)

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I give this item a four star rating because my kids really like it and they know more than I about electronic gadgetry. The lamp is sturdy with a fairly heavy base for the size of the unit. It puts out a nice bright light and the iPod/iPad/MP3 player fits in a little pull out that slides from the base of the lamp. The ipod is connected to the lamp with a jack that fits in the iPod and connects to the back of the lamp. The sound is all right for the size of the unit. My daughters really like this lamp/speaker. I think it would be a nice treat for a college student or a kid who would like another option for their music aside from their earbuds. It's a spacesaver for someone who has a small desk. Personally, I like the lamp, it's a bright LED light.

My kids don't mind that it doesn't charge because they use a usb cable connected to a PC to charge, so this isn't a big deal for them. They like the fact that it's a decent speaker that has a dual purpose with the lamp. I think it's an innovative product for college/high school kids because they can put it on their desk, use the lamp for homework and keep their pens in the base where there are compartments for pens and stuff and listen to music. For adults, it works well for crafting and listening to books. The lamp turns off and on with a tap to the top. This is a nice gadget to dress up a desk because it's multifunctional and comes in different bright colors.

If you are looking for a real docking station for your iPod/iPad, this one will not charge, which may be disappointing, but many iHome products don't charge. My 13 year old especially likes this lamp so maybe it is geared towards kids, but like I said the light is good for crafting and the little speaker works well, so this could appeal to adults as well who just need a decent lamp and speaker. It's different, but does have a certain appeal.

This package works as advertised, but eats batteries at an incredible rate. We don't leave them on that long, and within 2 weeks they are dead and we have to replace them. At 20 AAA batteries which are not that cheap, these become a $40 a month luxury we can't afford. Safe your $, skip the battery units! I suspect Duracell loves this product of course, but we don't!

I've purchased three sets of these lights at Costco and returned all three. Initially, they work great, and I only used them very occasionally when I had guests over to the house. After a month of very little use, I turned on the lights under the shelves in my antique desk, and they all went on, then dimmed. At first I thought it was the remote control, so I returned the set. I installed the second set, same experience, so I returned them as well. It turns out that the battery life, whether you use them regularly, or on an occasional basis is the same: 30 days maximum. I cannot figure out why the battery life is so short even though they are not being used. This makes no sense to me.

Best Deals for Lightmates LED Wireless Puck Lights with Remote & Batteries - 6 Pack

I don't regularly write reviews, but this is a great product. I bought them to provide undermount lighting in a pantry and in some dark areas of our walk-in closet. It took less than 7 minutes from opening the box to finished. They throw off a good amount of light, and the remote has a dimmer function which allows for a lower light level if desired. The remote also has a timer function, which i can see being very handy. I am going to swap out some flourescent fixtures in another closet for these.

The packaging was easy to open with your hands ( no samurai box cutting required) and the instructions are easy enough for a second grader.

I would not install these anywhere where looks are important, but that said, they look good and their low profile makes them invisible in most undermount locations. Compared to wiring something, this is an amazingly elegant time and cost effective alternative/ improvement.

Not sure about the price here. I paid less than $30 a set at my local warehouse club.

Honest reviews on Lightmates LED Wireless Puck Lights with Remote & Batteries - 6 Pack

I got these from my local Costco (for quite a bit cheaper than they're listed here) to put in my tack locker at the barn. I was tired of having to put on a headlamp just to find things in there. Someone else I know got this set and put them up in her horse trailer and had nothing but good things to say about them. I figured between these 6 lights it should light my locker up enough. But, I only needed two of them in the end!

There were two things I wasn't sure of before I bought theseif the units could be mounted with screws (since adhesive doesn't necessarily hold up well when applied to wood that is exposed to cold, damp conditions) and if the lights would function without the remote (in case I didn't use all of them in my locker). The answer is yes to both of thesethe backplate of the light comes off to change the batteries and remains attached to the wall; it has two screw holes already in place if you should decide to mount that way instead of using the included adhesive. And for what it's worth, the adhesive disc is holding up just fine so far. Without the remote, you can turn these lights on and off by tapping like a normal tap light. There doesn't seem to be a dim or 30-minute timer option without the remote, however.

I would have used the remaining lights for under cabinet lighting if I could get another remote outside of the set, but I didn't have any luck finding it sold separately, so I just put one where I want it most often and tap it on and off as needed and have a few extras floating around.

I left one of the lights on to see how long the batteries would last, and it was noticeably dimmer after 24 hours. For those who need lights frequently, you might be better off getting a wired solution (assuming you have a source of electricity).

And as someone else mentioned, the remote control looks different from the picture. Instead of looking like a standard light switch, it has four buttons: on, dim, 30-minute timer, and off.

This was my original review;

This is an amazing buy. We are currently renting a condo, and we love it. The only issue we have, is that the kitchen is slightly dark. I was watching HGTV one day, and noticed the difference under cabinet lights made. Unfortunately, we weren't willing to do all that construction, especially since the place isn't ours. I looked around for weeks for a solution. I finally stumbled upon this. It was about $40 (I paid for expedited shipping) and came with 6 pucks, BATTERIES, and a remote (that turns it on, off, dims the lights, and, my favorite, has a 30 minute timer). I thought it was a steal, and possibly too good to be true, that is, until I used it. From the time I opened the package, it took about 10 minutes (I read the whole information packet, and I am very anal about doing everything a particular way) to assemble. The directions are super simple. The light is BRIGHT. I like it on the dim setting, but if you need more light, then go for it! A great product! I highly recommend!

After 1 week of using it, I had to replace ALL the batteries. Whats worse, is that they have to constantly be replaced EACH WEEK. I don't even use it that much! Uggh.

I bought a few different types of tap lights to try around the house. These ended up being my favorite. What I like:

9 LEDs with no dark areas in the beam. I tried another brand and the beam wasn't solid like this one. I think it is because they spaced out their LEDs. This light is much better and has a nice solid beam.

The light beam is bright

Solid feel. They are made of plastic, but have a nice solid feel to them. Other lights I tried felt cheap.

They slide off of their mount. You can use the adhesive to stick the light up or you can mount the light with screws. Either way, you are mounting a plate. The light slides onto the plate. You can slide it off to remove the batteries. The batteries are not exposed when you do this; you still have to rotate the back of the light to get to the battery compartment.

Light is self contained when not mounted. I love this I can slide the light off the mount and use it as a flashlight without having to worry about batteries falling out. I've used is as a flashlight as many times as I've used it as a tap light (I didn't expect this but it has been VERY useful)

The adhesive WORKS. There are so many that don't which leads to light falling and breaking. So this is a big deal to me.

Cons

I was looking for a smaller footprint. This version with 9 LEDs is almost 4 inches wide.

I placed one on each side of each shelf of my pantry cabinet. They light up quite clearly, they are well made and so far, they stick really well to the wood of the walls. Will order 2 more sets for the other pantry cabinet. I will most likely purchase more in the future because I keep finding spaces for such lighting. Really nice!

Update: It has been more than 2 mo's since I installed these lights in my pantries using the stickers that were provided and they are still sticking! I haven't made any holes in my wood at all. If I ever have problems with them falling off, I will use the new sticky pastes that are on the market these days. So, don't worry about holes you may have to make, there are alternatives. But so far, these have worked beautifully and I am still extremely happy with this purchase.

This product is a wall-mounted night light, and you will have to mount it with hardware. If you're okay with all that, then go for it.

I tried to use one as a supplement for the conventional lighting in my bathroom. That was a no go. These taplights create the same kind of light that a cheapo flashlight would. It's bright enough to let you walk down a dark stairwell without slipping and breaking your neck, but I (perhaps naively) expected more.

Then I tried to use it as an over-the-sink light for when I didn't want to turn on the main kitchen light. That worked okay, but the adhesive only stuck for about a day before it fell right in front of me into a pool of dish water. Yes, I followed the instructions and properly cleaned and dried the surface before applying.

So there you go. It's a modest hardware-mounted flashlight.

Honest reviews on Fulcrum 30016-308 9 LED Tap Light, 3-Pack

I tripped over my dog several times. Fortunately neither one of us were injured. I could not locate my night light. I wanted something LED rather than bulb related. These work super if you have powerful batteries. They suck the juice quick due to the brightness. I use rechargeable 2000 Mah; otherwise, this dims quickly.

These are bright enough to read by if the reading material is within 4-5 feet of the light and certainly work well to illuminate a dark area enough to see some detail. Only negative side is that the batteries are triple-A rather than the much preferred double-A. Couldn't find anything comparable with AA or I would have bought them; AAAs just don't last long enough, even when powering LEDs.

this light was primarily purchased to be used as a backup dive light. the light was bright enough to use as a primary light so i clipped off the bulky main light and used this instead. i used this at palmyra atoll where it is so remote there is absolutely no ambient light if there isn't moon light. fantastic light and have recommended this to other dive team members. even on land use, the burn time is quite long as the led just sips battery power.

I purchased this dive flashlight for my boyfriend. He never used it because he said it was "too big". I tried it on two dives, and tend to agree. When I took it on two dives it was very bright; however, it is too big to fit comfortably into my BC pocket.

Not certain why the world is falsely fascinated with the word "wireless." Why not correctly state, "battery operated." Where I found the light most useful, it works extremely well, and I would not hesitate purchasing additional units.

The motion detector doesn't work properly. It has a mind of it's own. It won't come on when you open the closet. You have to physically move it around until it does. The lighting is not bright. This is such a poor product, I had to return it. I recommend Globe Electric 99003 Wireless Ultra Bright Battery Operateed LED Push Light. I have one and it works very well. It has 17 led lights. It doesn't have auto turn off or motion sensor, but it is bright.

It's a cool white light and the rotating light heads make this ideal for my needs. I originally intended to use it for my closet, thinking the rotators would be convenient in lighting the nooks and crannies as needed, but I didn't like the light color (and the heads didn't quite rotate enough) and instead placed in on the floor under a cabinet in the bathroom. The flip-up sensor made it ideal for placement customization, and I could aim the lights away from sight, making a great, ambient nightlight that is motion-sensitive and saves me an outlet. My wife and kids love it. I pull it out when we leave and use the alarm features (though not sure why they need two of them) when we're out of town.

It took me a while to decide which LED light bulb I wanted. First I wanted a 2700k light bulb (2700k is the standard for home light bulbs. Its not white light, it gives a "warm" light) and a bulb that is equivalent to 60W. The current champ is the Phillips 60W bulb that is currently selling for about $39 but Home Depot has finally started selling the same version in its stores for about $27.

So I ordered this bulb, plus I went to Home Depot to pick up the Phillips version. But I did not like the Phillips version because there is a 1/2 sec delay when you flip the switch. When I first tried the Phillips bulb, for a split second I thought it was broke! I couldn't stand the delay, so back to the store it went. I read other reviews on Amazon, and users reported the same thing, but most reviewers weren't bothered by it. But I was.

I also at Home Depot I tried the EcoSmart 60W 3000k bulb (Lighting Science makes these also, so it looks exactly like this one) but the brightness color was too white, almost like my office at work. 2700k color is perfect for the home in my opinion. When i'm at the office, I need white light to keep me awake. At home, i'm trying to relax, not try to burn my retinas.

Heres the pros and cons on the Lighting Science Group bulb:

Pros:

Instant on brightness. Unlike fluorescent bulbs which take a few minutes to warm up to reach full brightness, LED lights are at full brightness the second you flip the switch! Thats one of the biggest reasons why I went with LED.

No delay when turning it on. As soon as you flip the switch, the bulb is on, unlike the Phillips LED bulb which has a 1/2 sec delay before it turns on when you flip the switch.

The price was great! For under $30 you get a nice LED bulb.

Build quality. The bulb did not feel cheap or flimsy. It felt like a $30 bulb should be. The metal fins around the bulb are made of high quality and keep the bulb cool.

Lighting is the same as fluorescent bulbs. I was worried that the LED bulbs can not spread out the light like a fluorescent bulbs or regular bulb can. But my worry was gone when the LED bulb lit up my room exactly like my old fluorescent bulb did. I could not tell the difference!

2700k warm light. The light is warm just like my old fluorescent 2700k bulb was.

Cons:

The metal fins on the bulb do get very hot after a few minutes. The top light itself is cool to the touch, but becareful when handling the bulbs metal fins after its been on a few minutes. It can burn your fingers. Like most LED bulbs, the bottom contains all the resisters which regulate the power of the LED bulb, which can get hot.

Overall, this bulb is a must have for anyone who wants "instant-on" bulb thats 60W. You will not be disappointed.

*** UPDATE 06/09/2013 ***

I originally gave this review five-stars, which is deserved. I have since downgraded it to four stars because this bulb appears to have been discontinued and replaced by an even better bulb. It does not appear to be available on Amazon just yet but it's available at Home Depot as the EcoSmart A19 12-Watt (60W) LED Light Bulb; Model # ECS A19 WW 60WE (for the 3000K version, they also have a 2700K version but I do not have the model number). The new Definity Bulb is far better at dispersing "omnidirectional" light than the previous one. The previous one is still excellent, but if you're going to drop this kind of coin on new bulbs, that will be in use for years to come, you should buy the latest-and-greatest. This is particularly true given the rapid innovation in this space.

** ORIGINAL REVIEW 09/2012 **

There is a steadily growing industry around building LED light bulbs like this one. The holy grail for them is to make an inexpensive and energy efficient replacement for the ubiquitous standard 60W light bulb that can be sold to millions, or billions, of customers. To that end, a number of companies have flooded the market and your local home improvement store with LED bulbs touting themselves as the 60W replacement, including Philips, Sylvania (Osram), Toshiba, Samsung and a number of smaller brands.

I've tested almost every one of these bulbs, and the Lighting Science Definity A19 is the one that comes closest to achieving near perfection in an LED bulb and, except for the cost, closest to the goal of a universal 60W replacement bulb. Among its many benefits:

1) Superior Dimming. A number of companies build "dimmable" LED bulbs, but their technologies are simply not ready for prime time. The Lighting Science dimming is absolutely flawless -it's smooth and does not exhibit any kind of buzzing at any brightness level. Buzzing is a major problem for some of its competitors such as Sylvania and Samsung, and to a lesser extent Philips, as those bulbs tend to emit a high pitched buzz when dimmed to less than full intensity. I am not sure the reason, but the Lighting Science bulb seems to be the only one I've tested that is absolutely flawless in this category.

2) Well Engineered. It also works well in any type of dimmer that can handle LED/CFL bulbs and has an exceedingly high tolerance for wiring variations. The ceiling lights in my house, for example, have the original "knob and tube" wiring from the 1920s when the house was built, and the wiring is ungrounded and has a greater amount of interference than normal. The other bulbs that I have tested cannot handle this wiring without very noticeable buzzing. The Philips bulb does an okay job of filtering the buzzing out; it's less than the others but still there to some extent. But with the Lighting Science bulb, there is no buzzing at all in any application or any type of wiring I have thrown at it. It's clear to me that Lighting Science put its circuitry through a much more rigorous and robust testing suite than the others.

3) Instant on. You turn the switch and this bulb is on -instantly. You take this for granted in your incandescent bulbs, but most LED bulbs have a noticeable delay of anywhere from a half second to a full second before they come on. I was surprised how annoying this can be with some of the other bulbs. It seems like a small issue when you think about it logically, but we all grew up from childhood with the expectation that when you flip the switch, the light comes on immediately. This is so ingrained in our brains from childhood that it's very hard to get used to a bulb that doesn't come on instantly.

4) Perfect light coloring. This is another area where companies other than Lighting Science inexplicably cannot get it right. There are a lot of LED bulbs out there that advertise "warm" color, but if they don't put the actual color temperature (measured in Kelvins) on the box, you don't know what you're going to get. This is a big issue because we all grew up with incandescent bulbs with a color temperature of around 2600K. Your light fixtures -everything from the color of the glass in your wall fixtures to the design of your lampshades -was designed based on the assumption of an incandescent color temperature of around 2600K. Even the paint on your walls of your house may have been designed, to some extent, based on how it would look at night under the glow of these 2600K bulbs. You mess too much with that magical 2600K color temperature and everything in your home can simply look "off" and ugly.

This Lighting Science bulb has a color temperature of 2700K, which appears to be the "warmest" the LED bulb industry has been able to produce to date. It's slightly whiter than an incandescent bulb but generally looks good in most fixtures. Substantially the same bulb is sold at Home Depot under the "EcoSmart" label, but the "warmest" color temperature that one comes in is 3000K, which is way too white and fluorescent for me. The competitor bulb that comes closest to Lighting Science in terms of warm color reproduction is the Philips 2700K model, but it has a slightly pinkish hue to the color reproduction that is absent with this bulb. The Lighting Science is also superior to any CFL bulb I've ever tested in terms of color temperature.

5) Cost savings and heat. They emit a fraction of the heat, and consume about 1/7th of the energy, as a regular incandescent 60W bulb. Under the bulb there are a series of aluminum "fins" that act as a heat sink for the circuitry inside. Those fins can get somewhat hot but nothing like an incandescent bulb. The heat generated by this bulb is basically comparable to other LED bulbs at the same wattage. You will over the long haul see a reduction on energy costs, but it will take many years for those savings to recoup the higher initial purchase price.

Another theoretical upside that I refuse to acknowledge is the lifetime of LED bulbs -most manufacturers say they will last 50 times longer than incandescent bulbs or around 20 years. Because these bulbs have only been available for a few years, it's way too early to assess whether this claim is credible. I tend to think that this claim is based on the rated life of the LED lighting elements themselves. But the circuitry that feeds the LED elements (the stuff that generates the heat) will likely burn out or malfunction long before that. I've had these kinds of bulbs for about a year with no problems, but that's obviously no indication of whether they'll last as long as the manufacturers claim.

The big downside is price -as noted above, it will take years to save enough money on energy costs to make up for the greater initial cost of this bulb, and that's assuming that you believe the claims that these bulbs will last 50 times longer or 20 years (which I do not). But that's not how I think about these bulbs. I'm not interested in skimping to save a few bucks now when what we're talking about is something that will be "on" for many hours a day providing clean, safe and cool light to your home.

I just purchased a few of these bulbs and they're really great! I love the warm lighting much better than CFL's orangey tone, and the dimming is really smooth. I would recommend this bulb to anyone who needs non directional light and amazing dimming.

Honest reviews on Lighting Science Definity - A19 Omni V2 - Dimmable - 2700K - 60

My wife and I recently bought a house with recessed lighting in nearly every room, almost all of it on dimmer switches. The lights were power monsters, with big fat halogen bulbs. I set about changing this, and investigating other bulbs.

Th obvious first choice was dimmable CFLs. Unfortunately, the dimming on a dimmable cfl is... Well, it's crap. At the time, I felt that dimmable LEDs were cost prohibitive. Yes, I had heard that the bulbs worked much more nicely than cfls, the dimming effect was much better, you didn't have the light cutting out at a certain voltage, no buzzing like you do with cfls... But come on, it can't be worth that kind of money, can it?

Actually, it is. While the dimming isn't on par with an incandenscent, they're amazing in comparison to cfls. They last pretty much forever, the color of the light is beautiful and warm, the dimming works great, and I'll be replacing all the recessed lightbulbs in my house with these (slowly... They aren't cheap)

Is it worth the cost? Depends. If you don't mind power hungry halogens, keep your halogens. If you want money saving exclusively, go with cfls. If you want lights that dim well, last for ages, have good light color... Well, you're gonna pay for it.

Great things about this flashlight:

-Waterproof

-Inexpensive

-Very bright

-Takes regular batteries

-Clip for clipping it to whatever

-Hole for attaching to things.

Things to consider:

-Only has on/off via twist. Depending on your uses, this might be perfect.

-It is made as a small portable light, not large utility light.

Would highly recommend!!

Honest reviews on Princeton Tec Blast 2AAA Xenon FlashLight (Black)

I bought this because I didn't want to have to keep holding down a button for light when needing both hands. Be sure to read about installing batteries as often the spring side is the flat side of the battery but not in this case. The cap needs to be firmly screwed on all the way so don't be fooled into thinking it isn't going on. Simply slightly unscrew the cap and the light stays on. Very bright. I read they were phasing these out. Too bad. I have one from years ago that stills works. The batteries don't seem to go prematurely dead like a lot of flashlights. I think that's important considering who's going to put in batteries in the middle of an earthquake?

These are half the price of the competition and work well. Note that the color temperature is on beyond cool, approaching daylight at 4100 degrees Kelvin. These are great for work room spots where I want a white light. The dimming range is smaller than incandescent, but usable.

Honest reviews on Dimmable LED R20 Light Bulb by Lights of America

So am doing a test in my basement getting it ready for an apartment. Or course the builder put 20 some 4inch Non-IC cans down there.. I am want to also fireproof and sound proof. as you know with non ic housing you are not to be insulation closer than 3 inches. Well I have been doing my own lab test and I can tell you that inside the dome it gets to be 88-90 degrees...the hottest part is the neck and lower body of the bulb not so much the business part. So after being on for 3 days straight the temp didn't change. Or course the 45 watt can light I had they were at 150-190 degrees within 4 minutes. I have a Ryobi laser temp gauge (everyone should have one $29.00 I think) point it anything and tell exactly the temp of that object. So I am monitoring covering both of them with insulation..one rock wool the other fiberglass and will see what happens. The light is bright more of a white bright...but haven't decided if that is good for the basement or not yet...hey they can dim it if they want. Great Bulb...also I am looking for trim..for it...not sure the baffle thing and the trim is the best thing for it...I would think you would want the heat to be able dissipate instead of huddling in the top of the device.

If you're looking for a light that is as bright as an incandescent bulb, you better stick with one of them. Solar lights do not illuminate very well. That said, this is a very attractive fixture and is brighter than the GS-94 that I replaced. The worst thing I found was the so-called owners manual is not worth the paper it's printed on. In particular it says there is a "high" and a "low" setting, but the switch has an "I" and and "R" on it. There is nothing that explains that! An email to GamaSonic elicited the reply that "I" means "intense" or high, and "R" means "reserve" or low. Brother!
