The quality of this light fixture is actually really good. The cage is metal, as is the fixture shade. There is 7' of electric cord that you can cut to your preferred length. Installation was easy. HOWEVER, the mounting screws have plastic heads with no grip. It's difficult to screw these in. In fact, the screws are also unnecessarily long, making it impossible to fit inside the box it was mounted on. I had to replace this screws with completely different screws.

I contacted customer service a couple times before purchasing this fixture and I was happy to receive direct answers to my questions and not stock automated replies. I was trying to find out if the fixture was rated for a wet location and learned that it is not, but that if the cabling is kept inside conduit then it would be OK in snow and rain. I bought some flexible conduit and found a waterproof connector for the top and this light is good to go and ready for winter.

I don't remember where I got mine, probably not on Amazon, but this light is important in my collection because it brings the less common sliding pill type of zoomy into competition with the usual sliding head zoomies. The ring that one rotates to adjust the zoom is wide and finned to also provide cooling through the pill of the heat sensitive led.

Like the usual Sipik SK68 clones, it shines a variable size beam that is very bright for its simple AA cell power source.

The workmanship and finish on mine is excellent. The square knurling feels really good.

The Luna Light is great low cost lighting system for any camper who wants a low current drain and effective camp light. It works extremely well with the Goal0 Guide 10 battery packs with the USB port. There is more than sufficient light for a tent or small camp space at a 20 hour operation time on the Guide 10.

There may be too much light output for people who want to save battery power. An attenuating adapter (homemade, insert a resistor inline) may just do the trick to reduce light output and save even more battery energy. Here is an idea to save your night vision adaptation, use a clear red soda straw (or similar, cellophane, etc.) over the light tube. Instant night vision retention for virtually no cost. You could also use a clear yellow soda straw to help keep the bugs away at night. Bugs love this white light at night and can actually block a lot of the light from the tube as they fight for position on the light tube. Use it in the tent only AFTER you have zipped the door shut or you may have a lot of unwelcome company :-)

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS AFTER THREE MONTHS USE:

I bought a second Luna Light shortly after testing the first one. I have put at least 50 hours of use on the first and maybe 20 hours on the second and all LEDs are still working just fine, no loss of light output. The Luna Light is very lightweight and weighs around 42 grams / 1.4 ounces and it takes virtually no room in a backpack.

The Luna Light when used in a backpacking / camping scenario lasted a 3 day / 2 night trip on the original Eneloop rechargeable batteries in a Goal0 Guide 10 powerpack (168 grams / 5.9 ounces w/ batt, 2000 mAh), awesome.

For the next trip purchased a lightweight (39 grams) IOGEAR 3+1 ports unpowered USB hub and a bunch of USB extension cables here on Amazon. The goal was to make a small USB power distribution network from the Guide 10 for the 2 Luna Lights and a Kaito 500 AM/FM/SW radio with USB. The two Luna Lights were sufficient to light the outside and inside of the tent for the night. I have taken them camping at least 5 times since purchase.

After 3 months of good use, I am still delighted with the product's versatility and performance. I have not noticed any deterioration in the mechanical parts of the light, although, these lights are treated very gently (flexing kept to a minimum). The Luna Lights worked well during a power outage, nice to have the extra light in an emergency, or maybe a better description: "an unexpected camping experience in the house."

I've used USB worm lights in the past and was never happy with the performance. It was a single LED that could only produce a barely usable light that only shined on a small area. Meet the Luna Light. It's a 10 LED USB light that actually throws a decent amount of light for a small area. I say small area because it's not a high performance flashlight like a Fenix or Surefire that produces a large amount of retina burning light. It's designed to used with the Goal0 11401 Guide 10 with 4 Goal Zero AA Batteries power pack or a laptop's USB port. When plugged into the Guide 10, it provides enough light for the inside of your tent, the arm of a recliner to shine on a book or any place else where you need light for the immediate area. When plugged in a laptop's USB port, it floods the keyboard with plenty of usable light, in fact, I'm using mine now to write this review. I have not experienced any poor connections as a previous reviewer has described. I've used computers and USB devices in the past where they were out of spec that the connections were to loose or to tight. Then again, the reviewer may have a lemon. Hey, no one is perfect. In conclusion, I'm very satisfied with the light and it works perfectly for it's intended use.

Ok, so I bought this to go along with my goal zero stuff. I bought it from Goal Zero expecting it to be built like a tank but unfortunately it is not quite like that. The usb end is cheap plastic and loose around the flexible shaft instead of sealed to the shaft like I would expect. The light itself is super lite weight overall I suppose it needs to be. All the weight is supported by the usb port it's being plugged into.

That being said, the light performs as I expected it too. Its very flexible and stays where you put it. It's pretty bright for such a small little guy.

We'll see how it holds up after a few months use.

Was looking for the perfect keyboard light, and the Goal Zero Luna USB LED Stick Light proved to be just that. The quality of light provided with this simple plug-in USB device was exceptionally good, and far better than this user initially expected from the product images and description.

Where this Goal Zero stick light stands apart from others if first in the actual quality of light provided when plugged into the USB port of a notebook computer. My MacBook Pro has an illuminated keyboard, which is perfect for night work. But my Window 7 PC notebook has a regular keyboard, and for late night work when one has tired eyes, it has proven to be the perfect answer. It's all black except for a small, tasteful Goal Zero logo, and it has an excellent 9" bendable neck that's sturdier than many that I've encountered.

Had purchased a Logiix USB 10 LED Red Light locally some months back, but found the red illumination to be more distracting than anything, especially when editing photos where correct color balance is so important, so it was put aside and later given to a friend.

Out of curiosity, I plugged the Luna USB LED Stick Light into the battery base of my Super Bright LED USB Laptop Light which holds 3-AA cells. It had a freshly charged set of Sanyo eneloop Ni-MH rechargeable batteries, so I plugged it in and just left it on. Ended up with the Stick Light still functioning after about 44 hours, and dimmed at 48 hours, so no complaints with this one at all.

This Goal Zero Luna USB LED Stick Light works like a charm when it's plugged into the StarTech 5ft Desktop USB Extension Cable A Male to A Female, and with that cord length it offers a very versatile work light at a computer desk. It has doubled up quite well as a decent reading light when plugged into any number of USB wall chargers. The quality of light is excellent, and the neutral color temperature makes it easy on the eyes. Highly recommended for overall versatility and quality.

These lights were packaged very securely with each light individually wrapped in paper.

I took the light part off the stakes and put the stakes in the ground by themselves then set the lights on top. They look really cute!!!

However, two of them have not and do not light and the others only stay lit for 2 hours or so after being in direct sunlight all day.

I like the way they look lining the edge of my patio but I am disappointed in the length of time they actually stay illuminated.

I got my firstone of these as part of a kit, after using it a few times I bought two more! I operate a small airport and I find them very useful while repairing and inspecting aircraft, I keep one on my fuel truck so I can set it down and light up my work while I'm refueling airplanes. The heavy base and flex shaft make it easy to put light where you want it. This light eliminates the need for a second person (not always one around) to hold a flashlight and frees up both your hands for the task at hand (no pun intended). A great light, and with Amazon's new lower price a great buy!

I got this when I began working on a rental house owned by my mother. This was very useful because it let me work at night when I'd otherwise have to shut down. The use of common batteries with the other Dewalt 18V tools is what makes it so useful.

I use it as an area light, bouncing off light-colored walls to light up an entire room (and it is a little dim for this). I still carry a flashlight as a backup and I'd recommend the same to anyone using it at night, since you may knock it over, plywood may fall on it, et cetera. It can be used for task lighting. I suspect that the other Dewalt 18V flashlight might be better for that, though.

The design of the light, with the flexible neck, lets you set it up in all kinds of positions. The advice given in another review set it on its side should be taken to heart, as I think that's the most reliable way to use it. Setting the light on the battery base and extending the neck can make it unstable.

But this is a very useful light which can be used in many, many ways. I think that, because it's so useful, one is tempted to use it just a little bit beyond its ability to balance itself. With that caveat, highly recommended.

I am a huge fan of DeWalt products and own a dozen or so DeWalt tools. This light was a disappointment. If you want to use the battery as a base and point the lamp at something the flexible shaft can't retain it's position. Worse yet, as the light starts to sag the whole thing can topple. The problem is the flexible shaft is not very stiff. The light output is very bright and remains charged for a long time.

The Dewalt DW919 is an excellent device in the wide, wide world of flashlights. It's bright and very convenient to use when you need both hands to be free to work. I bought it as a Christmas gift for a friend who had been wanting one for a while. He's thrilled with it. I think, though, that this is a rather expensive device in its own right before you have to purchase the expensive 18 volt battery that makes it work. (Note, the battery does not come with it!) If you already have Dewalt or Black and Decker devices that use this battery, however, you're in good shape--especially if you own more than one such battery.

We bought this bulb for our 11 year-old son's room. We like the energy savings without the mercury of CFLs and knew he would love the color changes. It started out in as the main light, but it's just not bright enough. We moved it to a floor lamp and now he uses it for fun lighting. So it's not what we originally expected, but it's working out fine in its new setting. We don't regret a thing.

This is really a neat light bulb. It works as advertised, slowly changing from one color to the next. In one case, the transition from red to purple or blue to red or something, both colors are lit at the same time for a few moments giving a neat cross or star like effect on the wall. Mine is in the porch light which has frosted glass and shows up beautifully from the street, but it won't, as one reviewer commented, light up an area.

Also, kind of a minor complaint is that it really does change colors slowly, remaining on each color for several seconds, so that people going by in cars may only catch a glimpse of a single color and not see the changes. The only other complaint I would have is that on this example, the cyan color, my least favorite color on it, has the longest duration of any of the others. But that's just a personal thing and doesn't affect the technical aspects of the bulb.

I agree with the other reviewer that the bulb cycles through the red color a little faster than the rest, hence only 4 stars instead of 5. Not bad though. I bought these for a string of lights in a shade umbrella over my spa. I have 8 sockets total in the string. My concern was that as they all cycled through the colors they wouldn't all be in sync which would look bad. I only ordered 4 at first and just tried them out. They all cycle at the same rate and in the same sequence much to my relief. So now I ordered 4 more to finish the string. I got these more for mood lighting and am not too concerned about their brightness but they seem to be more than bright enough.

Great Amazon shipping that arrived within 2 days, but came with a defective bulb which seems to have happened to several past reviewers. Furthermore, the scant printed user info does not specify the pin-type of the replacement bulb since Type JCD 120V 50W bulb can come in several configurations. I spent half the evening on Google getting an unwanted crash course on halogen bulbs which apparently can come in G4, GY6.35, and G8 configurations. The warranty specifically excludes any bulb-related problems. If the manufacturer does not want to cover the bulb which is understandable, they should at least provide sufficient specifications for replacement bulbs. I went ahead and ordered the Sylvania bulb linked with this product on Amazon. It it turns out to be the wrong bulb, then I will change this review to a single star . . . what a frustrating experience (should have just drove to Office Depot). The overall appearance of the halogen lamp is as advertised (nothing special) and lever mechanism seems smooth and solid.

Okay everyone . . . don't bother with the linked bulb on Amazon (Sylvania 58660 50-Watt 12-Volt Halogen Single Ended Quartz Lamp with Clear Finish and GY6.35 Bi-Pin Base, 1 Pack #50T4QCLRP Sylvania). I ordered it and it does not fit. I widened the legs and got it to fit, but the bulb was immediately fried when I turned on the lamp . . . total waste of time and $$. I went to eBay and found a seller (lightingsaving) that was actually selling 10 bulbs G8 JC Type Halogen Bulbs / 120V 50W and they arrived within 5 days and work perfectly (10 halogen bulbs for < $12, they should get 5 stars!). Finally, I have a working lamp which works as expected, so I bumped the rating up to 3 stars. The trouble I had to go through to get a replacement bulb was ridiculous and the company really should have provided the exact bulb specifications. Now, I'm a self-taught expert on halgen bulbs . . .

I bumped the review up to 4 stars for durability. I've used this lamp daily for over 2 years and it's still going strong. The lever mechanism still works like new and none of the joints are loose. I've gone through 4 bulb changes over the past 2 years.

PROS:

-Lamp looks nice.

-Lamp is bright

-Lamp appears to be well made & sturdy, but only time will tell.

CONS:

-It's pretty common among these types of lamps, but it runs very hot. Don't put any heat sensitive devices/objects under the lamp. The lamp shade is also very hot to the touch.

-No dimmer. Once it's on it's on. No adjusting the brightness. I wish manufacturers would provide this info to Amazon and other retailers. Not everyone needs a spotlight.

The gear mechanism that permits the lamp height to be adjusted is designed so that the full weight of the lamp arm AND the load of the counterweight are transmitted through just a couple of tiny little gear teeth at the common fulcrum where the two lever arms that carry these weights cross. The position of the weights way out at the extremities of their respective lever-arms exacerbates the gear-loading situation. There is no adjustment possible on the engagement of the gear teeth. The result of these design features is that, if the gears are not made of durable materials and are not precisely aligned at assembly, they will strip. They do. The gears on the lamp I received were obviously very cheap 'pot metal' and arrived already stripped, probably from simply moving the arm at the factory when the unit was packaged. This is an execution and quality-control weakness, made more or less inevitable by the weak mechanical design.

It seems that some reviewers have had not problems with the gears. I can think of two possibilities: (1) the assembly tolerances might result in some units that are fine for a while, but even then if the arm is adjusted frequently eventual stripping of these gears is almost certain to occur, (2) there may have been recent design or material or manufacturing changes that have degraded the quality.

On the plus side the lamp _looks_ great.

I'm returning mine for a refund.

As a Halogen light the unit is unquestionably bright. That is one of the big positives of Halogen bulbs. What impressed me most was the counterbalance design of the device. The lever and gears that allow for the easy and smooth lowering and raising of the lamp is ingenious and I would love to know the history of the design of this piece.

Pros:

Great Design!

Very bright light like all Halogens.

Very clean white light.

No flicker.

Smooth movement of lamp arm.

Long lasting bulb.

Light device.

Negatives:

Expensive replacement bulbs.

The bulb runs extremely hot (Halogen normal).

No change in brightness. (No high or low setting).

Solid unit were the biggest plus isn't the function but rather the incredibly efficient design.

Purchased this to use as over the cabinet "accent" lighting after researching a number of LED strips/panels. For the price I decided to try it as other kits sell for well over 5x this unit. Installation was a snap...drilled a hole on the top cabinet so the unit can be plugged into the over the range microwave's 110v outlet, secured the rope with heavy duty double sided tape along the wall/edge of cabinet top and finally put a manual switch in-line with the outlet. Although the light output is not bright enough to use as a primary light source, the output is very even and makes a nice light when it's dark and you just need to get things without turing on all the lights. Overall very pleased and have received numerous questions and accolades on the overall look. They do have "warmer" color temperature ropes that may match flourescent or incandescant lighting but I like the accent of the whiter light which is noticeable with other lights on.

I was looking for a kitchen night light, and this one fit all of the necessary criteria: bright light (after all, it is an LED!), swivel base (the kitchen outlet where I planned to use the night light is a Belkin six-plug receptacle surge protector with horizontal outlets...:), and night/day sensor. The LED bulb contained within the unit is nearly three inches long, and casts light from a good twelve feet away. The bulb is non-replaceable, but for $6.99, it's a modest price to pay for something that suits all of my needs. I'll update this review once I learn more about the life-expectancy of the LED, but for now, I am one happy "night owl"!

I purchased this brand and part number (almost) at Lowe's and tried it out and was impressed. I found them much cheaper here online and bought several more, only to find the even though the brand and part numbers are the same except for the last digit, they are not the same fixture that Lowe's sells and do not perform nearly the same. These are not good for much more than night lights.

I've been installing under cabinet lighting for over 20 years and find LED to be the best & brightest. I replaced some small flourescent fixtures with these because the light is brighter and more pleasing to the eyes. The flourescent light fixtures got very hot and I was affraid they would affect the finish on my new custom made furniture. I recommend them to all my customers.
