I bought 11 of them for around a fence and so far all of them work as advertised. Been using them for 2 weeks. Decent brightness when it comes to solar out of the box for under $8 a piece, they are mounted 9 feet off the ground and you can see the ground at night, but it's rather focused light...meaning it doesn't light up much in the surroundings, it is more for fences or houses. I rate it 5 stars cause the product does exactly what I expect it to do.

I bought this for a single-bulb fixture in our kitchen, which accepts a maximum size A21 bulb, such as 23W CFL's (100W equivalent). The fixture is in the middle of the ceiling, and I have no other lights mounted up there.

This is the only place I specified this particular bulb, because I wanted more light than the 23W CFL, but could not fit a bigger CFL inside. (CFL = Compact Fluorescent)

I compared the output from a brand-new 23W CFL to this 22W LED bulb, and the difference was noticeable. I know it's only 10% brighter by the specifications. But when used in my fixture, the intensity hitting the countertops in the kitchen is probably 40% more. This is because the light is broadcast from the side of the bulb not the top. This worked very well in my fixture because there is a metal nub in the center, blocking some light from the end of the bulb.

If you are using a lamp with shade, you will probably find more light coming through the shade, and less light coming out the open top of the shade.

I'm extremely happy with the flicker-free light tint. The CRI value is not rated very high, but I find the colors in my kitchen are very appealing when lit by this bulb.

I have this LED bulb connected to a standard wall switch, so I cannot comment on use with a dimmer.

I would NOT buy this particular bulb for any other fixtures in my house. The best price I could find was $55 from a local home improvement store. That would buy a whole bunch of 23W CFL's. The incremental bump in efficiency of this 22W bulb does not justify upgrading at this price. I have a spreadsheet calculator: if this bulb was used at the typical 3 hours a day, it would take 400 years to recuperate the cost vs. a CFL (based on energy usage). For me, it was a sensible choice, because it is cheaper and easier to upgrade the bulb than it would be to buy a new fixture.

A good reason to buy a LED bulb instead of CFL: LED bulbs do not emit UV radiation which reduces fading of fabrics, yellowing of white plastics, and damage to your skin and eyes. This is especially important in a vanity where your corneas are in the direct path of the light for a long period of time. Also, there is no mercury in the LED bulb very important as far as I'm concerned. Finally, this bulb does not contain glass, nor is the contents under vacuum or pressure. The body gets warm but not extremely hot.

The "raw" appearance of the bulb with yellow "bug eyes" is a bit obnoxious. A fixture which hides the bulb is probably a good idea. The bulb is not to be used in enclosed fixtures according to Philips, so that limits your options.

In summary, this is currently the most light output you can get from a high quality, name-brand LED bulb in the A21 size. It is efficient as most quality warm LED bulbs at 81 lumens/Watt and reasonable in "relative" cost at 3.1 cents/lumen. A rated life of 23 years (3 hours a day usage) is as good as it gets. However, this product shares the same market space as inexpensive CFL's with the same general light output and efficiency, and the pricetag is much higher than most consumers want to pay. Therefore, I don't expect it to be a big seller.

I will not attempt to detail this review as others have done so well. There was a bit of a learning curve for me concerning LEDs, but this particular bulb as a 100W replacement made the decision to keep it quite easy. In my opinion, it is superior to the incandescent itself. It is brighter and more true to the color we liked for our living room and bedroom. All that remains to be seen is the proof of its claimed longevity and quality. I understand from EarthLED customer service that Phillips is not the easiest company to deal with when attempting to return their bulbs.

This is one of the brightest LED bulbs currently available. Since it was replacing an incandescent bulb that was on a dimmer, its ability to be dimmed was important.

Note: although the bulb is bright yellow in color when switched off, when turned on its light is white, not yellow.

These are great light bulbs, but before purchasing, make sure they will fit into your light fixture as they are huge. I have one lamp in which they fit. I had to return the rest because they would not fit into any overhead light fixtures with globes or tapered glass domes.

I'm pretty new to LED bulbs, but I cannot say I am impressed with this one. It's bright, but the light tint is not very similar to an incandescent. The light reminds me of a CFL bulb (not warm) but with a strange rose/pink tint to it. I don't think it is any worse than a CFL, but it is not much better. Also, on the box, it boasts that the bulb gives off no appreciable heat. This is blatantly false, as the bulb 75% metal and gets at least as hot as an incandescent. The difference is that even after turning off, it stays hot enough to burn your hand well after a typical incandescent bulb would sufficiently cool. My advice: if you need a low-energy light bulb that truly looks like an incandescent, wait for a year or two until the technology improves.

Great product! Even though we used a 3-way bulb in the table lamp in the TV room, there are many times, during a movie for example, that we wanted the lighting lower than what the bulb would allow. I knew there had to be a product like this so, after going to numerous big box stores and even two lighting specialty stores and not finding it, I looked on Amazon. Really regret not doing that first because, within a couple of minutes, I had it ordered and, within two days, we received it. It only takes about five minutes to install . We can now have lighting from as dim as a nightlight to as bright as the bulb will go, and anywhere in between! We both highly recommend it!

When I first installed it it worked great with a Philips dimmable LED light.

After a while, it didn't really "dim" the light it was mostly off until the knob was turned almost all the way on.

Finally, it started crackling when it was turning on and would only come on when the knob was all the way on and I had to jiggle it. When I jiggle it, I can smell the arcing. I'm pretty sure the variable resistor has died (I checked the my wiring no shorts and no loose wires...

It's gotten annoying and possibly dangerous time to replace it with something else!

Ahhhh!!!!...can anyone clearly describe light to someone else? I'll try starting with describing the bulbs.

The good:

-Bulbs came packaged very well, no breakage, no duds.

-The bulbs themselves are good looking both turned on and off. (They look better in person than the picture)

-The outside fins are metal with a nice smooth finish.

-Dimming is very functional from full on to very dim, even with my old fashioned push button dial dimmer switch.

-Very bright, good light spread, similar to the halogens I replaced.

-I am using them in a celing fixture that the bulbs are fully exposed. When they are turned on, some light comes through the metal fins and makes a nice pattern (not too much) on the ceiling.

-Low wattage and much cooler than the halogens I replaced.

-Price $7.45 ea. is a steal if they last awhile. (will update review if any of them burn out)

The could be better:

-They are described as 'warm white'...um...not compared to halogens. I would say similar to flourescent light.

-Slight buzzing sound (like flourescent lights) at all brightnesses, very faint, but definitely audible.

Overall I like the bulbs and would recommend them to others, with the disclaimer that they are a 'neutral white' color. Not really 'warm' but not 'cool blue' either.

I hesitated to purchase any LED bulb because I've used LED lights in the past and always felt the light from an LED did not disperse very well resulting in little ambient light outside of the focus area. However, my office in my new house was set up with 12 track lights using 50w halogens and I wasn't interested in sitting under 600w of heat, so I took a shot by starting with 4 of these bulbs.

I could not be happier that I did so. They put off as much light, if not more, as I'd expect from the "35w Equivalent", and the lack of heat is exactly what I was looking for. The light they produce is more like what you get from a bright white or even a daylight bulb, so if you're looking for soft white this may not be for you. However I actually prefer it to the light I got from the original halogen bulbs. The dimming on the lights works very well too. They don't seem to dim quite as far as the halogens did, but they dim far enough for my taste and my dimmer does not go all the way to 0% power so that may be a factor. Overall I highly recommend these bulbs.

I just bought one bulb to test. I'm using it in the kitchen fan hood which requires 4 bulbs.

Pros:

Beautifully built. Looks good on and off. Build quality seems excellent

This LED bulb is noticabley brighter than my original 35W halogens.

Fit is perfectly matched to my old halogen bulbs. The width and height are the same.

Runs cool. I have it on for several minutes and its still cool to the touch. The halogens are hot. The bulb must be efficent.

Cons:

I bought the warm bulbs but they leave a green hue on my white wall whereas the original halogen leaves a red hue. This isnt really a con, but may have to change the other three bulbs to be consistent. The color is not as warm as the halogens but not cold.

I have bi-level switch on my light fixture (bright and dim). On bright, the lamps work great. However on the Dim setting, the lamps strobes. It is very noticeable and probably unbearable. The strobing doesnt stop until I turn the switch to high or off. It isnt a warming up issue. This is why I didnt rate this product 5 stars and probably wont buy another set right now. Did I get a defective bulb or is anyone else having this problem? Other reviews have said that the bulbs dim nicely. That is not my case.

I have gradually been replacing the halogen bulbs in my house with these. So far I have installed five three in a mini track light from Ikea, two in a high-end ceiling fan. No duds in the lot. The light is definitely more of a bright white or daylight than a warm white. My wife likes it better than the original halogens. We have mottled off-white/light tan floor tiles. The LEDs make them look more white than brown compared to the halogens. The LEDs are exactly the same size as the halogens. The ceiling fan has fairly tight fixtures, and the LEDs fit without any problem.

Very bright I had them side by side 50w halogen and they are as bright or brighter than 50w halogen

Cool My halogen bulbs gave off so much heat that you could feel it from 5' away

Going on 9 mos and they are still working the halogen bulbs in my kitchen started dying after 3 mos

Lower price point than other LED's

The Ok

They look a little industrial consideration if you are installing them where they will be exposed in a traditional room

The color is closer to 6500k not 3500k

I haven't heard them buzz

Summary:

I did (too much) research to learn about what bulbs would be the best replacement for my 50w warm white halogen bulbs. These were the best in my opinion based on the physical size of the bulb, the brightness, and the cost. I have (and will) purchase more in the future.

For use in astronomy, this light is sufficiently bright without being excessively bright. The color is a true red (a plus), not orange like some lights. And the light is diffuse, which is also a big plus. It does a good job of saving your night vision, and it's one of the least expensive astronomer's lights out there.

So what's not to like? As mentioned in another review, one must twist the top of the light to turn it on and off. The problem is that if you accidentally turn it the wrong way, the top pops off, and you are then looking for the top and the two small button batteries on the ground in the dark. Making matters worse, you must have the top in exactly the right position to put it back on (no small feat), and the batteries tend to flip around into the light the wrong way. We tried 80 of these lights for a college astronomy class, and before the semester was over, half were no longer functional.

I bought this for astronomy use, but this will probably be the first thing I have ever returned to Amazon. This thing is really cheap. Considering you can get a pretty decent aluminum LED flashlight from Home Depot for $3, I was surprised at how cheaply made this one is for $5. Its all plastic and not very sturdy feeling. Its is actually really large (about 3.75" long, 1" diameter, measured with digital calipers.). I thought it would be tiny, but that clear dome you see in the picture isn't the LED, but a big plastic cover over the LED. The picture makes it look smaller than it is. The funny thing about the size is that there's nothing really in there. The battery compartment extends about .75" into the housing and then ends. There is nothing else going on in there.

Also, mine pretty much doesn't work. It worked when i first got it, but then I popped off the cover (easily done) to check out the battery compartment, and when i put it back on it was significantly dimmer and intermittent. I opened it up, removed and re-installed the batteries, and it still didn't work properly. I tried this a few times, and it just didn't work. The batteries were clearly facing the right way, and the electrical contacts were clean, but honestly the contacts on the light side are just a thin wire, so I'm not surprised that it isn't more reliable. I actually build robots for a living, so I know how to install batteries in a flashlight, but no dice. After messing with it a bit more, it seems to be bright again, but its intermittent, and honestly I don't want to deal with it. Its not even easy to install the batteries the right way, because the cavity is large enough that they can easily flip over when you drop them in. You have to try a few times to do it, and as another reviewer said, it would be a real pain to do in the dark.

As a mechanical engineer who designs things all day long, I am particularly surprised at how much is wrong with such a simple device. I think my mistake was searching for "Astronomy Flashlight". I realize now I should have searched for "Red LED Flashlight". That comes up with a lot more options. I might try something like an Inova Microlight (I'm not affiliated, but they just came up with the new search terms i mentioned, and I've seen that kind of light before and liked them). I will probably just go to Walgreens or some other drugstore and pick up a red keychain LED. I've had pretty good luck with those in the past.

So really, search some more, and try something else. I saw a few negative reviews and figured it was a fluke. Now I've realized I shouldn't have been so optimistic. I imagine they won't all be as finicky as mine, but I can't imagine it being worth it to try when there are plenty of other options out there that are better made and more compact.

I would recommend this product to anyone who is into astronomy and star watching. This true red LED light is very easy on the eyes and for the extremely fair price, you can't beat it!

Being in my later years in life, both my husband and I have vision that is slowly beginning to deteriorate. We have even found a second use for this light for when we take our late night trips to the bathroom. As silly as this may seem, the red light really helps your eyes adjust much better in the dark as your eyes do not dilate as much as they would with a typical white LED light.

Over all on a scale from 1-10, I would give the StarMap Light an 11! :-)
