I just moved and made the effort to set up my new place to be more energy efficient. The guy at the light store recommended Bulbrite CFL's for the house and I assumed he knew what he was talking about. So when it came to the desklamp, I decided to select the Bulbrite product based on the previous recommendation.

I am very happy with my decision. The design is really sleek and so flexible. I think I am sitting at my desk more and working more because of the quality of the light (maybe this excitement will wear off after a few weeks). But given the expected life of the product and my satisfaction so far, it probably is my last desk lamp ever.

I received this light today and can say that I do like it very much, although there is a slight stinging in my rear pants pocket where my wallet resides. I was impressed with the reviews and compared it closely with what I assume is it's copy-cat competitor: Lumian Design LED Desk Light at $48. I rationalized to myself that for $126 this must be a highly superior light, most likely made of metal (which it is not). Positive aspects are that the light is nice and bright; and the cord plugs into the base as compared to the Lumian model. Negative aspects is that at 15 inches high it would be better if it were a little taller or the light could pivot a little higher. The real rub is that somehow, for $79 more than the competitor, I would have expected perhaps a metal body. For $126 this 15 inch piece of plastic should at least play the National Anthem or do my laundry. Oh well, live and learn. It is a very nice piece of plastic and I am sure that I will enjoy it. Although I'm still stuck on the fact that for only $18 more I could have had three (3) of the Lumian pieces of plastic instead of just one piece of very expensive plastic that lights up.

I have this lamp on my desk at work, not only does it look stylish on its own but it makes everything it illuminates look great as well. I can't wait till I receive my second one for home.

I also thought it was really cool that you could move the light part separately from the base, or fold it up and get it out of the way easily. That makes it super easy to work in a wider area and not have to reposition or move around the whole lamp all the time.

I bought the lamp because I thought it looked cool, then I realized I wont have to buy another desk lamp or lightbulbs for like 20 years! Totally worthwhile purchase! I had never heard of Bulbrite before but I'm gonna look for their stuff from now on.

I purchased this lamp because I wanted something sleek and modern but not overly expensive for the desk in my home office. It looks great with all of my Ikea furniture. However I have a three year old that likes to throw things on the ground and surprisingly this lamp has withstood every trial my son has put it through. This was a great purchase, good light, great style and I'm pretty sure it will survive being thrown off the roof of my house if my son so chooses.

This is the perfect desk light. The LED bulbs give plenty of light for working and do not generate heat, which I find a plus. The light is well-designed, and I love the fact that it folds down when not in use. I don't know why the wine red color is so much cheaper than the black, but I like the color and it goes well with my little home office. Other lights have too big a base or they give off too much heat or they spread their light over only a tiny area or they're fluorescent, which I find fatigues my eyes. I looked for the right light for a very long time, and this is it!

I've had this a few months now and it's working perfectly. I have it hung on the underside of my porch roof so it's not directly exposed to the weather and I honestly don't think I would recommend it for places where it will get rained / snowed on. I'm sure it will be able to handle the ambient moisture / cold / heat from being outside but I don't think it would last long if you plan on mounting it directly in the elements at least not unless you do some slight modifications to it like using caulk or silicone over the seams. The motion sensor function works great it only comes on when it's dark and the sensitivity is perfect. Once it detects no motion for approx 10 to 15 seconds it goes right back out again. The light is very adequate for shining on a door so you can see the keyhole or find your way in a dark area.

UPDATE 9/17/2010: I wanted to add a couple of notes now that I have been using this light for six months. I had initially given this 5 stars but had to knock off a couple of stars due to some serious issues with the light. The light began staying on all night long when there was no motion occasionally going off for a second and then coming back on again. Since it had been six months since I installed the light and the light was getting a bit dim I assumed that maybe it was because the batteries were dying. When I opened the door to replace the batteries white water poured out the water was white due to the moisture inside the light corroding the batteries and they were leaking a lot of acid. It actually burned a little and the batteries were in such bad shape I'm surprised they were even able to turn the light on. As I mentioned above, my light is not exposed to any direct moisture at all it's hung on my porch roof which has an eave that extends down one foot from the roof line and the light is mounted in the corner. No matter how hard it rains the light would never be able to get hit by water so apparently the ambient humidity is getting into the light and condensing inside. I was able to get the light working again by leaving the battery door off and letting the insides dry (inside the house) for a week I think the water was causing the circuit board inside to short out. Before I put the batteries back in I sealed all around the lens and all the seams with silicone sealant. After I put the batteries in I sealed the battery door shut with Dap 18324 Seal 'N Peel Removable Caulk, 10.1-Ounce so hopefully that will keep moisture from entering. It really is a nice light and it's a shame the manufacturer didn't put a little more effort into making this more weather resistant. If you plan on using this outside at all I would recommend that you seal it up good first unless you live in a desert. As I mentioned the battery life is roughly six months, which is decent, but I think I expected more since it runs on 4 C cell batteries. Then again, maybe they would have lasted longer if they weren't soaked in water.

UPDATE 9/15/2012: I haven't had any further issues with the light since sealing all the seams with silicone sealant and "Seal N' Peel" (so I can get the battery door off in the future without too much of a fight). I haven't had to replace the batteries since sealing it in 9/2010 so the batteries will last a very long time as long as moisture doesn't find its way inside. Hopefully on future revisions the manufacturer will make the few small adjustments needed to make the light moisture proof.

Just added this to the bottom of our apartment's formerly unsafe and dark stairway. Powered by the 4 size C batteries, my only worry was whether this would sufficiently illuminate the section (the reason I ruled out a solar powered unit; these tend to put out as much light as a birthday candle). Initially tested the unit indoors and I was pleasantly surprised to see the LEDs put out a great deal of light...enough to read by. Installation is a breeze, the motion sensor is sensitive enough to turn on from about 6-8' away, and hopefully the light lives up to the 6-12 month battery replacement claims. Only negative is not specific to this unit, but of LED lighting technology: the lights are so cold blue, it sometimes looks like a new car headlight is shining downward. Wonder why manufacturers do not include a slightly warm-tinted clear film to alter the light's colour a bit. But overall, think this is a perfect renter's choice in adding some safety lighting outdoors.

We park on the side of the house where there is no light so I started looking for an outside light that would be easy to install and wireless. The first night it was up I thought this has to be a bad unit since it didn't turn on when I drove up. Once I turned my headlights off and got out of the car it lit up and provides adequate lighting. The function of it only turning on in the dark was battery saving plus for me. I was afraid with the dog running by it all day we'd be buying a lot of batteries but it only turns on with a combination of darkness and motion. It's been outside on a pole without shelter since February and works great.

This detector does an amazing job for lighting small areas (25 sq ft). Its bigger than the photo would indicate (almost 6"x6"x6"). The 4 batteries fit in the sphere itself not the base. I mounted 1 outside above the doors of our shed and 1 inside the shed at a height of about 6'. The one side picks up a person about 5' away. Provides excellent light for about 25 sq ft with dimmer lighting for about 100 sq ft. Quality is fine for a sub $30 detector. Just installed so I have no idea how long the batteries will last.

Con: no sensetivity setting on motion detector. Not an issue in my case but some may want more/less then the pre-set.

I bought this to cover the ceiling imprint of a removed square lamp fixture. The square was 18" diameter, so 20" medallion was perfect. I had to enlarge the center hole just a little bit to fit the new light fixture it was easily enlarged with my Dremel-like grinding tool.

I have used many medallions in installing a ceiling fan or lights. They have ranged from cheap thin plastic that warped when installed all the way to using carved wood. This is by far the best unit I can find on the market. The material is a solid, light very stable polyurethane material that easily fits against the ceiling using a polyurethane caulk adhesive. Painted before installation, this unit is gorgeous as a finished product . All I did was order the size appropriate to the size of the room and bingo! You will enjoy the completed look!

These are two awesome night lights! They are shaped like lava lamps and have some weight to them. There are a few pros and cons with this lava light to be aware of; but overall they are a great novelty night light.

DESIGN

The LED Lava night light is shaped like a Lava Lamp. Instead of a light sensor it goes for the traditional on/off switch. This is a good thing as it seems those sensor based night lights never work as intended. The bulb is a single high intensity LED located inside the lava tub. The bubbles inside do not move, and unlike a normal lava lamp these night lights do not get hot even after 10+ hrs of use.

LED Light

The LED cycles through 8 colors following a set pattern. The light emitted during this pattern is actually pretty bright except for Red** (See below). The LED itself will probably last you around 5 years before it begins to dim/fail if all goes smooth.

OVERALL

The light itself is an awesome novelty item. The cycling colors and design make it look like a mini lava-lamp, and it produces a nice bright light. The problem is that the light is also bright and with the rotating spectrum of colors it could end up being more distracting than good. **When RED shows up, the room will dip to nearly pitch black before returning to being softly lit; when combined with the rotating colors this can be distracting to sleep with.

As a night light to "Sleep" with, this might be a bit much. As a night light to use to light a hallway or bathroom this is 95% perfect. The rotating colors and novelty will liven up the room or hallway. That 5% I left off... just don't be walking down the hall when it switches to Red. A really nice pair of "novelty" night lights... but in the end they are not exactly practical

My daughters loved these lights from the moment we plugged them in. They had been begging for a "rainbow night light that changes colors" for a while, so when I found these, I was really excited.

First off, when they're working, these lights are really cool. The red does make the room go dark for a bit, and we had to convince the girls not to get scared while it transitioned to the other colors but that wasn't a big deal.. over all they help keep the room light enough to ward off whatever monsters or scary things the girls were imagining but dark enough not to disrupt their sleep.

For a few days they were awesome, but then one night one didn't work. When plugged in it would light up faintly and then go dark. If there is a way to fix the issue, it's not easy to find. The other light still works, but now the girls fight over which side of the room gets the rainbow light and which gets the "normal boring" one. I may buy another set and hope for the best, or just find something that will be built a bit better.

Pros:

Pretty and bright (except for the red)

On/off switch

Doesn't get too hot like other night lights

Cons:

Red light makes the room get really dark. Not useful if relying on the light to get around in the dark, but okay for ambient light to keep away "monsters"

Not well-built (or I just happened to get a bad batch)

I love the styling of Kovacs' lighting design, and had purchased several floor and ceiling fixtures before purchasing this bathroom fixture from another vendor. An electrician installed it, and it looked great. Fast forward a few years, when the xenon bulbs have burned out. First, a struggle to remove the covering on the left side then, the discovery that in order to remove the covering on the right side, the entire fixture must be taken down! Then, try to remove the Xenon bulbs -and try, and try then get your friends to try then let the electrician join the battle. Next, drive all over the Washington DC metropolitan area trying to find the replacement bulbs. After failing, return home, Google "xenon bulb" and breath a sigh of relief when you find . Chat with the very helpful customer service gentleman, then ask him to wait as you run to find your magnifying glass to read him the code on the bulb. Finally, bulbs arrive, but the electrician must return to change the bulbs and reinstall the fixture. According to my electrician, the WORST fixture he has ever encountered. Save the $300, unless you don't mind calling an electrician each time a bulb blows.

I have a home theater setup that uses this bulb in the projector. The brightness and color temperature is as good or better than the more expensive brands of bulb. The 50 hour lifespan seems to be an accurate average after having used these bulbs for about a year and is comparable to other alternatives. So far I have had no defective bulbs. For the price it can't be beat.

Remember to NEVER touch the actual bulb in the center of the reflector with fingers or anything else for that matter or you will severely cut down your bulb lifespan. This holds true for ALL halogen bulbs. Handle by the outside of the reflector or the base to ensure you get the most out of your bulb.

I do not know why the one reviewer said that these could not be mounted directly to the ceiling. That is nonsense. They have holes and include toggle bolts specifically for that purpose. I can only assume the reviewer was just clueless about installation or maybe his kit was missing parts. Even so, one can drill new holes and use your own screws as long as they have heads flat enough to clear the light head bases.

Then there was the reviewer who could not get the lights to work but said some would work if the turned them around. Duuh, the tracks have two wires on one side and one on the other and you need to insert the heads so that the contacts line up!

I had no problem with installation. I do recommend that you get at least one of the track mounting holes lined up with a ceiling joist if possible so you can use a real screw since that is stronger.

Also, I used the LED lights that another reviewer suggested and they worked great with far less power usage. Be aware that if you use LED lights, you may want to avoid using the glass covers as most LED lights have vent holes that would be blocked by the glass covers. Just be sure the LED lights stay in well w/o the covers lest they wind up hanging by their wires.

Great set of lights but be advised you may need to buy an adapter if you plan to mount directly to the ceiling. The mounting bracket that comes with the unit is to mount to a fixture not to the flat of your wall/ceiling. I love the cans but it was a bit disappointing that they didnt come with bulbs. I was able to attach a variety of other cans to this and they all worked like a charm. Easy to set up and looks fantastic

These are cheap Chinese fixtures that have worked fine for me, and are quite a bargain compared with name-brand units costing $50 and up (which don't include bulbs either). I have 10 of them and they all work fine if you install them properly, and in the right kind of track. It's the halogen bulbs I don't like. They've had 50w halogens in them for several years, and the heat has made the plastic mount a little brittle. A few tiny pieces have chipped off when I de-mount them to change bulbs, but nothing has failed. I am changing to LEDs, which provide whiter light, run cool, last a -lotlonger, and should save a bunch on the electric bill. The fixtures work fine and should last forever with minimal handling and cooler bulbs.

My husband and I got this track light because we could put new LED bulbs in place of the hot Halogen bulbs. We installed an LED Dimmer switch on the wall, and it works really well. The LEDs aren't quite as bright as the Halogens, but that's a personal preference, and not any fault of this track light fixture. We put ours up behind a pelmet (aka a cornice), so you can't see the fixture, but even if you could, it's attractive, and has a box that hides all the wiring well.

Picked one of these up at Wally World last year on a whim, was not thrilled with its output at all or its yellow-brown color tint. Lasted about 3-4 months, minimal use, then it went into super dim mode. Couldn't find the receipt (my bad, but who files and keeps light bulb receipts?) so ended up tossing it. For the moment Flourescent is still the lumens per watt leader, I'm sticking with CFL's until these are perfected. GE says they invented LED's, is that correct? You'd thus think they could get it right, so much for that.

I have a good bit of electronics experience so figured if I had to toss it I would at least investigate the failure and maybe harvest the emitters, after much frustration I got it apart finally and see that all the electronics on the driver board have been encased in a potting compound, which almost certainly retains the heat in the components rather than let the air shed it away to the heatsink. Purely speculatory but I suspect this is what caused the unit to fail as the individual emitters tested good.

I would avoid this particular line from an otherwise reputable manufacturer until their supplier gets their act together with a better design. It does leave a bad taste in your mouth when you buy a product looking to save money and it ends up costing as much as 8 of the CFL's you bought it to save money on not buying.

I bought one of every PAR30 LED bulbs that I could find in local retail and electrical supply shops. Several are slow to light Sylvania, Philips, EcoBrite. GE is instant on, but throws a narrow beam most suitable for high ceilings. Best of the lot were FEIT and Kimberly. Both are instant on with a good spread. FEIT is also sold at Lowes as UtiliTech. Kimberly is harder to find.

I really like this night light. It casts a soft glow and it's an LED light, so it should last a long time. The only con is that the plug does not rotate to fit both horizontal and vertical sockets. It only accommodates vertical sockets, so it currently faces sideways in my hallway...kind of goofy.

I use this in my living room because it is dark at night when traveling from bedroom to kitchen. It emits the perfect amount of light to illuminate the corner area where the outlet is, so that I have a better pathway by which to see at night--not bright enough to cause a glare or anything unpleasant, just a nice soft whiteish glow.

I like the style, too. It does not have that ordinary nightlight look. Sure, it is obvious what it is when you see it, even when it is off during the day, but I like that the style gives it a little bit more of a modern feel.

As I said, I have this little guy plugged into a corner in my living room, almost behind my sofa--so it is not a place that gets a lot of light to begin with. Still, our house is open, and it is in the central part of the room; what I am saying is that during the "day" the light still remains on depending on the level of daylight. The outlet gets a lot of light from our front door, so if it is a sunny day and we have the shades open then it is usually off. But if it is gray and rainy or if the shades on our door are closed, the light may be on. It seems to like head-on light to activate the sensor to turn off the light most effectively, so perhaps if this is important to you, see if you have a place facing a window that you can plug it into (the sensor is on the front, surrounded by the plastic casing).

This is not a negative point about the product for me, just something to be aware.

Have been outfitting a 5BR boarding house the past year, including two solar lanterns in each window. This purchase is my third Smart Solar lantern purchase, the other two are square with the dragonfly and scroll patterns.

This lamp isn't nearly as nice as the other two to look at up close. The top and bottom are plastic with a rubbed bronze appearance, same as the others, and that part is just fine. But the plastic cylinder looks chintz. I suppose it is 'frosted,' but looking at it in daylight the patterned cylinder portion of the lantern looks like it's from a promotional 2-liter bottle design. Lit up on the sill of a window facing the street the effect of the patterns is good, and in the middle of a dark room even better as the pattern can be seen on the walls. Also there's a reflective plastic square in the base. The other problem with its appearance (to me) is that you can see there's nothing inside the lantern. By contrast the square table lanterns by Smart Solar have translucent plastic sides for a far superior appearance. With this one you can see through to the other side and the lack of anything inside the lantern makes it look even more like something you might have made with a plastic bottle.

At fifteen dollars delivered it would have been a good deal (for me at least) for me to put something decorative like a candle or some flowers in it and put it on my stoop. But from experience solar lights left outside might as well have a sign on them saying "Steal Me." To finish ripping on the design I'll just add that I tried it out for a few nights on the bottom sill of a floor-to-ceiling window and even from the sidewalk it had an unacceptably cheap appearance.

Quality solar lanterns tend to be expensive, and as they put out a small amount of light for as long as possible the amount of light can disappoint buyers who aren't familiar with the limitations of solar lighting. In Arizona in the Summer lanterns by Smart Solar may well remain on until dawn. Here in Oregon I tend to get three or four hours after dusk, especially in the windows with less than ideal sunlight.

If you're looking for just one solar lantern, and it's going to be displayed where it can be viewed up close you'll likely be disappointed in this product, and by comparison the appearance of Smart Solar's square lanterns is superb. And for the craft-minded, you can put whatever suits your fancy and is weatherproof in it and put it on your porch. And then, who knows, maybe you'll end up in the 'Victims of Solar Lantern Theft' club too!

Stay illuminated til I go in for the night (at least 4 hours) with a full charge. I did put colored pebbles inside as these a very light and will blow over in the wind. I use them on table tops not staked in the ground.

This is plastic not glass, but I am still pleased with it for the price. I am going to use it when the electric goes out and I will not have to worry about it getting knocked over during a storm. Good value and good service, would buy again from this seller.
