I have always wanted a great LED upgrade for the name brand Solitaire Maglite. Does this one work? Well, technically yes. It is brighter than any small LED I have ever seen. Sadly, we are still missing the mark here. This install makes it to where the lens adjuster cap will not screw all the way down. In fact, it's not even close. It tightens down leaving an approximately 3mm gap. If you carry the flashlight in your pocket, there is a chance the cap will come off and the light will be on in your pocket until the battery dies. Even worse, the delicate fixture is exposed if the cap comes off. A tiny bit more engineering would have remedied this problem, but unfortunately I am left to do that myself. Others may not be as industrious. Good effort, for it being the only option, though.

As stated by others, a terrific upgrade for the Maglite Solitaire. But it does not allow the cap to fully screw on, and puts the cap at risk of accidentally falling off if it happens to spin just a few turns.

I made a modification the reflector that eliminated the problem and wanted to share. This will obviously void your warranty, but what would you rather have: a warrantied problem or a non-warrantied solution?

Tools required:

-Dremel tool

-Dremel end-mill.....I used an abrasive ball bit.

-Can of air for dusting computer keyboards

1. Remove the lens cap from the Maglite and place it on your workbench.

2. Use the Dremel (and a steady hand) to slowly remove the lip on the plastic reflector that surrounds the bulb hole. The more you grind away, the more the cap will screw on before turning off the lamp. Do your best to grind evenly around the circular lip. The key here is slow and steady!...grind and test, grind and test, grind and test. I eventually stopped when the light turned off with only 1mm distance to go with the cap.

3. The lens cap will be full of plastic dust and shavings. Take the can of air and stick it in the light bulb hole of the plastic reflector and give it a puff.....viola it is clean!

4. Be sure to clean off the threads of the cap and the Maglite body itself with the spray air.

5. Enjoy!

I have been through three of these bulbs, each of them lasted about 4 or 5 months. They are bright and actually make the Solitaire useful. Just don't expect them to last as long as 10,000 hours. I use my Solitaire on my key chain, just normal use.

So, this is probably the fourth one of these I ordered, after the previous three broke ("lasts forever" is a joke!), but I finally decided to write a review to warn others. Don't waste your money. Unlike other LED replacement bulbs, these break easily. Between the one in my wife's flashlight, and the ones I've had in mine, they always break, I suspect from the twisting action of the head. The last one I received had not just the LED itself, but the pins to the circuitry bent so badly that they both fell off when I unwrapped it. I know it's only $5 dollars, but it's not even worth that much. DO NOT BUY.

This led bulb is a joke! First, it doesn't fit very well in the AAA MAGLITE KEYCHAIN FLASHLIGHT. Second, it died after just 8 months, without heavy use. I just used it here and there in some home repairs. I won't buy it again!

The Luna Light is great low cost lighting system for any camper who wants a low current drain and effective camp light. It works extremely well with the Goal0 Guide 10 battery packs with the USB port. There is more than sufficient light for a tent or small camp space at a 20 hour operation time on the Guide 10.

There may be too much light output for people who want to save battery power. An attenuating adapter (homemade, insert a resistor inline) may just do the trick to reduce light output and save even more battery energy. Here is an idea to save your night vision adaptation, use a clear red soda straw (or similar, cellophane, etc.) over the light tube. Instant night vision retention for virtually no cost. You could also use a clear yellow soda straw to help keep the bugs away at night. Bugs love this white light at night and can actually block a lot of the light from the tube as they fight for position on the light tube. Use it in the tent only AFTER you have zipped the door shut or you may have a lot of unwelcome company :-)

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS AFTER THREE MONTHS USE:

I bought a second Luna Light shortly after testing the first one. I have put at least 50 hours of use on the first and maybe 20 hours on the second and all LEDs are still working just fine, no loss of light output. The Luna Light is very lightweight and weighs around 42 grams / 1.4 ounces and it takes virtually no room in a backpack.

The Luna Light when used in a backpacking / camping scenario lasted a 3 day / 2 night trip on the original Eneloop rechargeable batteries in a Goal0 Guide 10 powerpack (168 grams / 5.9 ounces w/ batt, 2000 mAh), awesome.

For the next trip purchased a lightweight (39 grams) IOGEAR 3+1 ports unpowered USB hub and a bunch of USB extension cables here on Amazon. The goal was to make a small USB power distribution network from the Guide 10 for the 2 Luna Lights and a Kaito 500 AM/FM/SW radio with USB. The two Luna Lights were sufficient to light the outside and inside of the tent for the night. I have taken them camping at least 5 times since purchase.

After 3 months of good use, I am still delighted with the product's versatility and performance. I have not noticed any deterioration in the mechanical parts of the light, although, these lights are treated very gently (flexing kept to a minimum). The Luna Lights worked well during a power outage, nice to have the extra light in an emergency, or maybe a better description: "an unexpected camping experience in the house."

I've used USB worm lights in the past and was never happy with the performance. It was a single LED that could only produce a barely usable light that only shined on a small area. Meet the Luna Light. It's a 10 LED USB light that actually throws a decent amount of light for a small area. I say small area because it's not a high performance flashlight like a Fenix or Surefire that produces a large amount of retina burning light. It's designed to used with the Goal0 11401 Guide 10 with 4 Goal Zero AA Batteries power pack or a laptop's USB port. When plugged into the Guide 10, it provides enough light for the inside of your tent, the arm of a recliner to shine on a book or any place else where you need light for the immediate area. When plugged in a laptop's USB port, it floods the keyboard with plenty of usable light, in fact, I'm using mine now to write this review. I have not experienced any poor connections as a previous reviewer has described. I've used computers and USB devices in the past where they were out of spec that the connections were to loose or to tight. Then again, the reviewer may have a lemon. Hey, no one is perfect. In conclusion, I'm very satisfied with the light and it works perfectly for it's intended use.

Ok, so I bought this to go along with my goal zero stuff. I bought it from Goal Zero expecting it to be built like a tank but unfortunately it is not quite like that. The usb end is cheap plastic and loose around the flexible shaft instead of sealed to the shaft like I would expect. The light itself is super lite weight overall I suppose it needs to be. All the weight is supported by the usb port it's being plugged into.

That being said, the light performs as I expected it too. Its very flexible and stays where you put it. It's pretty bright for such a small little guy.

We'll see how it holds up after a few months use.

Was looking for the perfect keyboard light, and the Goal Zero Luna USB LED Stick Light proved to be just that. The quality of light provided with this simple plug-in USB device was exceptionally good, and far better than this user initially expected from the product images and description.

Where this Goal Zero stick light stands apart from others if first in the actual quality of light provided when plugged into the USB port of a notebook computer. My MacBook Pro has an illuminated keyboard, which is perfect for night work. But my Window 7 PC notebook has a regular keyboard, and for late night work when one has tired eyes, it has proven to be the perfect answer. It's all black except for a small, tasteful Goal Zero logo, and it has an excellent 9" bendable neck that's sturdier than many that I've encountered.

Had purchased a Logiix USB 10 LED Red Light locally some months back, but found the red illumination to be more distracting than anything, especially when editing photos where correct color balance is so important, so it was put aside and later given to a friend.

Out of curiosity, I plugged the Luna USB LED Stick Light into the battery base of my Super Bright LED USB Laptop Light which holds 3-AA cells. It had a freshly charged set of Sanyo eneloop Ni-MH rechargeable batteries, so I plugged it in and just left it on. Ended up with the Stick Light still functioning after about 44 hours, and dimmed at 48 hours, so no complaints with this one at all.

This Goal Zero Luna USB LED Stick Light works like a charm when it's plugged into the StarTech 5ft Desktop USB Extension Cable A Male to A Female, and with that cord length it offers a very versatile work light at a computer desk. It has doubled up quite well as a decent reading light when plugged into any number of USB wall chargers. The quality of light is excellent, and the neutral color temperature makes it easy on the eyes. Highly recommended for overall versatility and quality.

I ordered these lights for my deck stairs after seeing similar ones my neighbor had...same brand different shape. Both sets (his and mine) have adequate light for their purpose. They light up otherwise very dark stairs behind the house. The light is perfect for being able to see where you are going and seeing the stairs. HOWEVER....this round model says it is for deck posts in the description but it is TOO WIDE to fit on the posts and it overhangs on each side. We even have deck posts with sleeves around them making them even wider than normal and these overhang by 1/8" on each side. Very disappointed, looks terrible. The rectangular ones (same brand) fit perfectly. If you are mounting on a post DO NOT get these...get the rectangular ones.

Pros:

+ It throws off a very impressive amount of light. I replaced a brand new Sylvania mini/micro CFL rated with approximately the same output (60W equiv) and this is much brighter... I would say it is every bit as bright as a 100W equiv CFL (which would consume about twice as much power as this bulb).

+ The light distribution is very good. It seems to throw light in every direction just like a regular bulb (and unlike many other LED bulbs)

+ Instant on (at least at room temperature)

+ No humming (I was always getting humming from CFLs in this application)

+ It seems to be very well made... it is surprisingly heavy and the design seems rather complex

+ It is the only bulb I can remember ever seeing that is assembled in the USA rather than China

+ It has a nicer appearance than most LED bulbs or pretty much any CFL bulb

Cons:

The price is a little high yet.

They do tell you that you can't use it in an enclosed fixture. Now you might very well get away with that depending on the size and design of the particular fixture, ventilation around it, and the ambient temperature and everything. But I see it as a CYA move... you might have a fixture that would cause the bulb to overheat so they just issue a blanket "no enclosed fixture" statement even if it might be fine in some/many/most fixtures. Note this all applies to CFLs as well... they can overheat in enclosed fixtures as well which will shorten their lifespan.

While this looks better than a twisty CFL bulb, I would rather use an incandescent or halogen in a fixture that has exposed bulbs if appearance is important.

???:

? Longevity is critical but impossible to evaluate at this point. This bulb is new and only time will tell if they last for years and years as they claim. For the price it had better last a few years at least.

? I don't know what the performance on these bulbs is like in cold temperatures. I plan to test this out eventually as cold weather CFL performance is absolutely terrible and other alternatives all use a lot more power.

Also:

Note that there are two versions of this bulb... one is 4000K ("cool light") the other is 3000K ("warm light"). According to the packaging, the 3000K is more efficient. It outputs a more lumens and consumes a bit less power. The 3000K is closer to the color of incandescent light but still a bit whiter than that. There is a noticeable but not a massive difference between 3000K and 4000K. Bulbs in general range from about 2700K to 6500K, so they are not at opposite ends of the spectrum or anything.

If you are looking for a LED bulb that will reproduce the light coming from an old 60 watt incandescent this is the closest thing I've found.

Warmth, brightness, turn on delay all very similar to old bulbs. I have not tested the dimming feature though. Honestly the only way you can tell its different is by looking straight at it. I have tested it in areas with multiple other bulbs and it never sticks out and no one has ever pointed it out.

Only problem is getting them but it seems Amazon now offers them!!! Also wish 3M would offer a 90 wattt equivalent.

This bulb has the closest color temperature of a clear bulb that I have found; only without the harsh shadows a clear bulb would usually give. This bulb is great for table lamps and bathroom vanity fixtures. The whole globe lights up so it does not look weird behind a translucent shade or in a bare fixture. It has a no-delay start up (from switching on to when the actual light comes on). A main concern is that it is heavy. It will make a desk lamp top heavy if it does not have much weighted support at the base. I'm not sure how the dimming is, but like many LED's, it will probably stay the same color as the light is dimmed. This bulb is also assembled in the USA, making it one of the least expensive replacements that is assembled here. The ideal fixtures for this bulb is where it has sufficient air flow around it to prevent overheating; recessed and ceiling mount fixtures are a no no. There is no officially published CRI but rumor has it that it is 80+.

This is about the most perfect, affordable LED bulb on the market right now. 25 Year life with 5 year warranty out of the box. Fits in more spots than CFLs do even with the newer ultra-compact ones to compete against.

I've been waiting for a passable LED for years. Others I've tried tend to direct the light in one direction, wear out relatively quickly, consume lots of enery, and/ or not produce enough lumens to be practical as a replacement for 60W.

This light, however, is energy efficient, puts out 800 lumens as advertised, lasts a long time (great build quality), and the light is dispersed just like in a normal lightbulb. The color options: warm/ cold are great. I like the cold for my kitchen and the warm is nice for reading nook, family room, etc.

The light is a bit pricey, but assuming it lasts the 25 years as advertised, it will more than pay for itself.

I found very little to complain about. The one point that could be improved is the weight of the bulb. It is quite heavy relative to an incandescent or even a CFL. Using it in lights with extension arms, therefore, could cause the lamp to fall over. For fixed lights (e.g. overhead kitchen) or floor lamps that stand straight up, I don't have any trouble.

I have tried different brands of LED light bulbs, mostly non dimmable, and concluded that LED light source needs to catch up with brightness, color temperature, and in some cases build quality. This pertucular Sylvania bulb satisified all my expectations what LED light should be! No doubt it is expensive, but if you coinsider it lasts over 7 times longer than halogen bulbs, cuts your electric consumption by over 70% its hard to argue! Its nice to know that my light is as bright as any other halogen bulb, is less abrasive to the enviroment (by a-lot!). Dont forget these bulbs run cool, produce warm white light, do NOT use mercury based components and leave you all warm inside.

!!!! Please be aware of other manufacturers that make led bulbs! I have found that common problem is flickering, dim, unnatural color temperature, no dimming! (Dimming bulbs are much more expensive, non dim bulbs will not work in a dimming grid)

Sylvania on the other hand stands alone, and I highly recommend it! Come on people get on board, it makes all perfect sense..

Bought this LED bulb to see how they work compared to existing low-voltage halogen can lights in kitchen ceiling. Seems to be slightly warmer light (not as bright white) as the halogen bulbs we use but that's OK, Definitely cooler to stand under and is marketed as lasting much longer. Only thing noticed is that our kitchen ceiling lights are on a slide-type dimmer switch. The LED only dims slightly as compared to total dimming of the halogens. The Sylvania LED is supposed to be "dimmable" but it is not like our halogen bulbs. Thought I heard from an electrician that there are different types of dimmer switches and not all are the same. So, maybe we have "the other kind" of dimmer that this LED works less well with?

These lights really are beautiful. I bought them to be a night light for my girls' room, and it works beautifully for that. My girls love them. However, it came missing one plastic flower, and for the price I paid, I would expect a few extra flowers along with a few extra bulbs. However, it didn't come with either. I will contact the mfr. and see what they say. If they don't send me free replacements, I will return this set and buy another of the same set.

I gave 4 stars because I believe they are expensive for what you get, and it should have come with extra parts.

OK, I did contact the mfr, and they are shipping me an extra plastic flower. It says right on the box "permanent LED lamps," so the bulbs are not replaceable and therefore no extras are needed in the box.

Also, these are much less expensive when purchased directly from LED Lights Unlimited, but when you factor in the shipping, they are less expensive on Amazon. But if you are buying many sets, it may be cheaper to buy direct from the company.

I wanted to update my review. Originally, one of the light strands I ordered came missing one plastic flower. I was able to contact the sellers very easily, and they sent out an entire new strand of lights without requiring the old ones to be returned. This was nice and unexpected, as I only requested a replacement flower. The replacement lights came very quickly. I have to say that these lights are absolutely gorgeous in my living room. It's so relaxing to turn off the big lights and enjoy the pink glow. Highly recommended and worth the cost!

Ok, maybe I shouldn't write a review while I'm slightly agitated, but one of my light strings is missing a plastic flower that covers the pink led light. The result is like a missing tooth in an otherwise pretty smile. I contacted Amazon, and they were very helpful as usual. I should be contacted by the seller, hopefully...soon.

Another reviewer had the same issue, but I figured it was probably a fluke. I don't know how many of these light strings the seller ships, but for the price they might go ahead and check them before sending them out.

Besides the missing flower these lights are very pretty. A bright pink led light with a pink pliable plastic cherry blossom covering it (a bit smaller than expected). I was very happy to find non Christmas decorative led lights as they let off no heat and cost virtually nothing to run compared to regular string lights. They should really give my living room a nice calming atmosphere during spring/summer evenings....as soon as the replacement flower arrives that is. :)

The light died after ~10,000 hours (14 hours daily use just shy of 2 years). Additionally, it's not that great of a light. It takes a second or two to illuminate. The light intensity is weak. It's in a spotlight pattern. They did honor the warranty and sent out a replacement after I contacted them by phone. (I did have to send them the defective light first, though.)

These bulbs were put into service late in 2012, they should last well into 2018 (and that's if never turned off!).

We installed 15 during an interior lighting upgrade project. One of them failed after approximately 1000 hours use (first it showed a barely perceptible flickering; eventually it was blinking!). A single phone call resulted in Sylvania shipping both a replacement bulb and a return kit at no cost; all I had to provide was the model number of the bad bulb.

The initial cash outlay for LED bulbs such as is intimidating if compared only to the cost of traditional incandescent bulbs. But the reduced energy consumption and longer life rapidly recover the initial purchase cost. This is one of 15 identical bulbs I just used in an interior lighting upgrade, and I anticipate recovering the total cost in 2 to 3 years of use.

The light from this within the Kelvin range of traditional incandescent bulbs, with significantly reduced energy cost, significantly longer life and far less radiated heat.

The light from an array of these bulbs is warm and adds clarity to formerly a formerly dimly lit space.

I'm using four of these in a large, 240 square foot shed. Despite the tall ceilings (about 12 feet high), these easily produce enough light.

I purchased the 3000k warm light bulbs in Edison E26 fittings (standard house hold lights). I choose the warm light bulbs because some of reviews of the similar 9W bulbs (iLLumi Projections E26 Screw Base DC 12V-20V 9W Motor Home Marine Low Voltage LED Light Bulb DC battery Solar fishing lamp FREE SHIPPING 42x 5050 cluster) indicated that the light was too harsh in 6000k. I'm glad I got the warm light bulbs, I wouldn't have wanted them any more bluish. Make sure to add a seller note after you place your order unless you want the cool light bulbs. You can also order other colors (blue, red, etc) if you order 12 or more.

The seller is very responsive; they responded to my question within a couple of hours. Shipping was surprisingly quick given that these had free shipping and were being shipping from Asia.

BTW: these are 12 volt bulbs. This is obvious by the seller's description but some of the reviews of the other bulbs have complaints from people who tried to use them on household 110 volt sockets because they didn't read the details close enough.

I ordered three of these for my boat (which is about to cross an ocean). I was hesitant at first as the price seemed too good to be true when compared to a major marine retailer whose initials are "WM".

These bulbs are bright and fit in all my existing fixtures. They take about .25 amps.

I was so pleased with the first three that I ordered three more.

We changed out a 12V light fixture that used two 13 watt 1156 automotive bulbs positioned over the dining table in our RV. The new ceiling fixture with an Edison base socket was purchased from Lowe's and easily installed where the old fixture was located. The 12 volt Edison bulb screwed right in to the socket. Yes, we used a light fixture designed for 120 volt household bulbs but in the RV it is wired to 12 volts DC. The LED lamp is extremely bright almost too bright. Easily equal to the 100 watt equivalent advertised. The color is bright white no yellow tones. We can now see well enough to thread a needle. Current draw is less than the two old 1156 bulbs so existing wiring is OK. Less drain on our battery bank. We are Happy Campers!

Very bright. Good, Very omnidirectional white light with no bluish hue. This is an excellent value in 12V DC LED lights. Fits well in a standard household socket (12 VDC only) Bulb is 4.75" long and 1 15/16" in diameter.

The bulb shipped direct from the manufacturer in Hong Kong, with a expected delivery date of Aug 6, but the bulb arrived on July 5! Perhaps an overconservative shipping estimate.
