Review of Paradise GL22724BK Low-Voltage Cast-Aluminum 20-Watt Halogen Spot

I have used a wide selection of low voltage light fixtures as we try to light our property, and I am very pleased with the three Paradise GL22724BK fixtures we bought. They are not spot lights--we use them to light trees from about 10' (3m) away. The angle adjustment would allow them to be used as uplights. The photo here on Amazon doesn't show the metal spike that goes into the ground. It is an "L" shape, rather than "+", in cross section--very strong and easier to push into hard dirt. Second, the wire attachment is the best kind in my experience. Malibu has a two-part gizmo that is hard to position and hard to undo. I've also seen a connector that requires a plastic alignment part be snapped onto the cable first--you need the right part or it doesn't work. The Paradise fixture has a rectangular box closed with three finger screws. (You could use a screwdriver, but it is not needed.) Remove the three screws--the nuts are captive--remove the top and take out the rubber spacer that matches your wire guage. Push it on the wire, replace the top and three screws and you're done. As I said, it's the least hassle of any of the other connectors I've encountered, and the easiest to reposition. Quality control doesn't seem great on low voltage lights, in general, but I was very pleased that all three fixtures lit up the first time power was applied (other fixtures require tweaking, or a new light bulb, etc.). Finally, the price is a great value--I have paid this much for plastic, 4W, fixtures. One more thing--before I dove into this project, I thought that you couldn't mix and match, that you couldn't add Paradise to a Malibu system. You most certainly can--we have Malibu/Intermatic as well as Paradise transformers, generic 12/2 wire, and all kinds of fixtures playing nicely.

The build and quality of this cast aluminum flood lamp housing is better than many costing three times the price. We bought four of these light housings to light-wash some terra cotta, rescued from a demolished building, now mounted in our back yard. The results are excellent. The Paradise housings come with wire connectors, MR16 20W 12 volt bulbs, and stakes. We replaced the bulbs with 12V MR16 LED's, which take up more room in the housing, but still fit. The stakes are rugged and keep the housing securely where it is pointed. The connectors are good quality, easy to use, and allow connection to three different gauge wires (18Ga, 16Ga, 12Ga) for maximum compatibility with existing systems (yes, these can be added to any 12V light system, as long as the wattage capacity of the current transformer is not exceeded). There is a black version of the housing available, but for a few dollars more, this housing is the best value, and actually looks better than the picture. It is worth noting our LED system (consisting of 10 lanterns, and 4 flood lights) consumes less than 35 watts of power, yet lights up the back yard.

The Paradise GL2272RC is one of 3 different Low Voltage lights I purchased. The others were more expensive and required the separate purchase of "Quick Connectors" to connect the fixture to the power cable. The Paradise connectors are already on the 16 AWG cable coming off the fixture and are easy to connect to the power cable. That was not the case with the supposed "Quick Connectors" needed for the other fixtures. These lights look to be of a higher quality than they cost and are very easy to adjust (no screwdriver required) once you have them in the ground. My only criticism is that it is more of a flood light than a spot light. A spot light typically has a shade that extends beyond the lens to keep the light beam narrow. This Paradise light tends to spread the light over a broader area than a typical spot light.

I received this product promptly, and it is my intention to replace the 20w bulb came with the unit with the LED light (MR16 3x1 Watt LED Spot Light Bulb 20W, warm white, 1230WW) I purchased separately from AMAZON, it fits perfectly.

Now I have this light working in my yard with a 4W spot LED light, the LED light is adequate and gives enough light as the original 20w spot light. I am happy.

Note: I tried Moonray, it has shorter neck and can not fit the LED light, Paradise is just about perfect!

I did my whole system with the Paradise equipment and am very pleased with it. I had 6 of these to spot trees, the house, and the mailbox, plus 18 walk/driveway lights, and a 600W transformer. They do a good job. Two can light up an entire side of my two story house, and one shines all the way up about 3 stories into the tree branches. Fairly bright.

Like the walk/driveway lights, they're machined very well. None of these had problems out of the box. The cap easily comes off to put in the bulb and seems to fit snugly. The glass has a rubber ring so they seem to keep water out well and I didn't see any condensation. There are drain holes so no water will accumulate. The angle is adjusted easily by unscrewing the side and just adjusting the light then tightening it. It has "teeth" to hold it in place. It's aluminum, but like the walk lights, very sturdy and you'd think it was steel. Very solid. Machined very well. The stake is sturdy and about 7-8 inches long. No way you'll bend it. The clips to the wire were easy to use and snug. The only thin I didn't like was there's no screw to stop it from rotating on the stake. You just keep screwing until it stops and that's the direction it will point. You have to adjust the stake to point it in a particular direction. If you don't screw it all the way, it will turn easily so that's not an option (only reason I gave it 4 and not 5 stars). But a small thing compared to how impressed I am with everything else.

I also got the Paradise spots and the 600W transformer, and very pleased with everything.

The one issue I came across, is the mounting holes don't line up with a standard ceiling lighting mount. You can screw one screw into the lighting mount and then the other into drywall/stud/plug.

I ordered this very item from ToolTopia.com a month ago. Their price was not the lowest (SJDiscount Tools has it for $156.92) but their warehouse was closer to my location and shipping was free.

The under hood light was for my husband, and it works very well. But the hangers that attach the light to the frame do not appear to be the same as in the photo, and are woefully inadequate. The hangers we received with it are extremely flimsy S-hooks and at any time the bulb falls out during hanging.

I contacted ToolTopia, and requested they locate the hangers shown in the photo, which appear much more secure. After some hemming and hawing, they didn't contact the manufacturer Central Lighting, but emailed me their phone number suggesting I remedy the problem myself. ToolTopia would not support the product they sold me and was uninterested in locating the missing parts. I do not recommend them!

This is an outstanding product; high quality engineering and manufacturing which is built for the professionals. In fairness, I have seen this product in action, so I was well aware of what I was getting.

Again in fairness, I must respectfully address Ms Brewster's disappointing experience with her order. Without knowing the details, I suspect the vendor substituted a different product than was displayed and discussed in the ad.

Mine was purchased through El Dorado Sales and totaled $160.23 which included the shipping, and was exactly the one shown. Images of the product in use have been added. I hope Ms Brewster was able to resolve the product problem, as her husband will enjoy this light for many years.

I might also add that a mechanic friend of mine bought this exact tool for $224.00 at Clarke Tool about 3 years ago. is the best!

I'm what you would call a "shade tree mechanic" or "grease monkey". I've been working on cars for YEARS and one of the most annoying and troublesome problems I have is getting enough light where I need!!!! Drop lights are always either in the way, or falling, or just not at the right angle. This light really puts an end to all of that! Just hook it to your hood with the supplied hanger (which by the way is very very nice quality), and you have enough light to work anywhere in your engine bay! This thing put out enough light to allow me to work UNDER the car and not worry about toting a drop light with me. If I could give it 6 stars, I would. Highly recommended for anyone who details engines too! The fluorescent light really allows you to see all the small imperfections.

This is a great tool. Doesn't get hot provides a ton of even cool white light. A must have in every shop. Works great in the interior as you can attach it to the roof. Won't work on every car as some older cars don't have a flat hood for the 'hooks' to grab on to.... so be aware of that shortcoming.

Oh I blew it. When I first got my nightlight, I thought it was gorgeous and put up a 5-star review. The next morning, it seemed defective so I changed the review to 1 star. The owner asked if I wanted a replacement or reimbursement but I couldn't be bothered...I was too annoyed.

But the owner contacted me again and wanted to make it right. He offered me a replacement of the incandescent bulb night light and I also ordered an LED one for comparison.

I love them both. I can't tell them apart. The owner took the standard 7-watt bulb and designed it so 6 tiny LEDs (check out the bulb offered on the first product page) are aligned so they glow straight out from behind the screen. The light is very steady and there's no bright spot. These bulbs give off no heat and are long-lasting. Each nightlight comes in a nice box, fit for gift-giving, and each comes with an extra bulb.

HitLights Dimmable 8W LED Warm White Globe Bulb, Equivalent to 60 Review

I compared the HitLights dimmable 8 Watt LED bulb to a 7 Watt Maxxima LED bulb in the same room, installed in the same lamp(with a "frosted" cover).

First thing that I noticed instantly it does not have a "Warm", that is "yellowish", light. The light is "plain" white, with no bluish tint. This is not a color I am fond of.

Second it is labeled as a 9 Watt, not 8, bulb.

Third the Lumen output is nowhere near 700 Lumens. It did not seem at all brighter than the 7 Watt Maxxima bulb, and that one is around 400-500 Lumens.

It works fine overall, but I would look at the AffordVI-IX series offered by the same company for a more pleasant and better quality light in a smaller more affordable package.

I have tried several different LED light bulbs. All of these have been rated as being dimmable.

These lights are being used in outside, dimmable sensor lights and I have had problems with every single one of them except for this light.

At 8W this light bulb throws off plenty of light. The issue I had with other bulbs I have tried is that at lower dim levels, the bulbs tend to start to flicker. I have yet to have this issue with this light from HitLights.

I definitely recommend this bulb to anyone who needs alot of light for a cheap price. With LED bulbs lasting so long, it should be years before I need to replace this bulb again.

The description states this bulb is an eight watt bulb, equivalent to a 60 watt incandescent. However what it is interesting is that this Hitlights bulb looks and appears to be completely identical to another bulb I purchased at the same time. The interesting aspect is that I paid $19.19 for this bulb, and the other bulb (Jacobs Parts) was $12.75. I set up a darkened room and subjectively tested both bulbs in the same small table lamp, to see if they were the same brightness. It appears to me that they were identical in brightness. (remember, this is a subjective test, guided only by my perceptions of looking at written material on the table to see if either appeared easier to read, or not. I do not have a mechanical device to measure actual light output scientifically)

Here's the thing... I purposely purchased 4 different 60 watt equivalent bulbs from different selections on the Amazon website. I did so because I've heard anectotal commentary about some lights not being very good. So I wanted to see for myself so that I could hopefully make a wiser buying decision if I want to go "all LED" in my household.

So, the comparison of these two bulbs... continued... they look exactly alike. Their descriptions on Amazon look similar, except for one notable difference: the more expensive bulb is noted to be 8 watt, and the less expensive bulb is noted to be 6 watt other than that, they appear identical. There are no markings what so ever on either of the bulbs. I found that unusual because most lighting products usally has some identification on them. Then I looked at the packaging materials to see if there were any hints there. There was absolutely no indication on the box from HitLights of country of origin, manufacturer name, etc. However, on the Jacobs Parts packing materials, it specifically stated that their light was Made In China. (which is not unexpected these days, as many things are made in China.) I suspect that the two lights are identical, however I cannot prove that.

Most importantly, both lights seem to function well, and will work in the intended area I wished to place them.

If you were wondering how these two lights turned out against the other two lights I got, well I would rank both of these slightly below the other two. Why? Because of two totally different reasons. The light I got from Phillips was SIGNIFICANTLY brighter than either of these two. All had about the same range of "warm" white light, and all as I said before, were in the 60 watt range of incandescent lighting. The Phillips was MUCH brighter, but also cost quite a bit more (over $20). The other light I got was what is called a "daylight" or "white" light bulb. I rate it better than these two because the light "temperature" does make a difference to what you're looking upon. It's a lot easier to read with white light bulbs. That said, the warm white bulbs make people look nicer as their skin appears more pleasant. It is your choice.

I love this bulb. When you turn it on, it instantly lights up to full power unlike CFL's. No noise or flickering which protect your eyes. It produces less heat than a CFL but the finned area between the lens and screw base gets too hot to touch when on. The lens only gets warm. It produces a wide even beam with no hotspots or shadows. It may be a little heavier than a CFL if that matters to you. I will be purchasing more of these.

Love this bulb. I was sooooo tired of supposedly dimmable CFLs giving out after a few months, not to mention the mercury content in CFLs. I read the reviews for this bulb, and at less than $20, I figured it was worth a try. And after much research, I've learned to be very careful to read the equivalency ratings for both wattage and kelvin temperature to ensure I'm getting a bulb bright enough and that gives off the color of light I'm looking for.

I think that some people who complain about the "whiteness" of this bulb simply did not do their homework. This bulb is rated at 3,000 K, so it's not too warm. However, another HitLights bulb that I bought for a room that I did want a warmer light is rated at 2,700 K. Perhaps the confusing part is they're both described simply as "warm white". Those people who are particular about color should really check the Kelvin rating before buying the bulb, even if it is described as "warm".

As for the dimming on this bulb, that works great as well. I don't really use that function much, even though the bulb is on a dimmer. I've had the bulb for a little over 6 months now, running about 4 hours every single day (it's in an overhead fixture in the dining room). There's been no sign that bulb is looking like it will give out anytime soon. Not sure if I'll get anywhere near the 50,000 hours this bulb is rated for, but I'll be happy with even half that.

I ordered this flashlight for my dad and it just arrived. It features a newer technology battery, NiMH, over the older style Ni-Cad. I have 4 Mag-chargers now and love the durability. I thought I was purchasing the complete system when I read it runs off AC as well as DC. The description says it includes the DC adapter or power cord. This is true. What it doesn't say is it DOESN'T include the AC adapter. I guess that is what got the price down, but it would have been nice if it spelled this out. I have two extra AC adapters & charging cradles, so this isn't a problem, but not everyone will be in this position. So if you want to be able to charge it at home or at the office, keep looking. Oh yes, one more thing. I spent many years in retail and this flashlight and charger have been out of the package. Don't know if it was a return, refurbished, or what. So the price was good, shipping was free, but the accessory description was not clear and it may or may not actually be "new".

I really like this product's low profile look. I have installed it at the end of a hallway where it gets completely dark at night.

It emits just enough light to give a foot diameter glow around it. The light color is as white as it can get, as you have seen in other LED lights. The reason for my 4 star is due to the fact that the actual shade part (a half dome part) is a little too thin so that the LED light behind it glows through it. I had to insert a black piece of paper that's cut out to the right size inside the shade to block the glow. I still like it enough, thus my rating. It wouldn't hurt to try it with this pricing.

We fit these into some indoor plant decorations,and they add a great touch to the room at night. Much better looking then bulb or larger LED lights, and the battery pack allows you to hid the cable. The only drawback is that the battery powers both branches separately, but it looks better with the 2 branches together anyways. So far, no issues after a month of use.

In my opinion this is one of the best LED desk lamps on the market. If you read my other reviews, I am especially critical of supposed higher quality and expensive products, but am thoroughly impressed with these examples from Koncept.

Why?

They are quality fixtures with an award winning (literally) design and it shows. The counterweight is precisely designed to maintain the lamps position you get a clear demonstration of this when removing the LED head, the weight goes off and the lamp rises up. This means that you don't have to rely on awkward rubber bushings or tightening screws to maintain a position the head moves freely anytime you want to change the position.

The LED head is also affixed to a ingenious cam, such that when the "arm" is raised and lowered, the head remains at the same set level again, another quality engineering implementation that lesser LED lamps generally do not offer.

The almost exclusive use of aluminum means that the product is devoid of cheap plastics and lends an overall feel of quality and appearance that will work in your design studio, or a home office.

The color temp of the LED in this warmer version is accurate at 2700k and did not look overly "blue." If you know a bit about LED's this color temp is the hardest to produce without driving up the wattage since some yellow filtering is required to tune out the blue tint, inherent in the diodes used to produce this color of light. The warm temp is a recent engineering marvel in the LED world and the lamp has some of the best LED's in use.

It is worth noting that despite the formula of using low powered LED's in higher numbers (vs fewer, high powered units) the lamp still produces a distinct "hot spot" of light. I would have liked more spill, but understanding the limitations of LED's I would rather live with this than a blurry fresnel type lens that would further reduce the total lumen output.

Yes the price is high, but if you want a quality desk lamp that won't cheapen the look of well put together office, this is it. If you're just looking for an inexpensive, bright LED desk lamp solution, this is probably not for you as the quality of materials, engineering and design would not be worth the extra premium.

I'm VERY into soft natural lighting, but I have cats, so I tend to buy a lot of little battery operated candles. These are probably the nicest I've seen for the price. I would buy more of these.

The product info is a little light on details, so I'll tell you more about the ones I received. These do not have the tacky little flame shape built into the plastic on the top, they have a cute little black wick, and when not switched on look a lot classier in the decor than the cheap kind you usually see at drug stores. They're covered in real wax, so they look and feel nicer than most of this sort of product. They take a standard cr2032 battery, which you can get cheap in big numbers on eBay, so you don't have to worry about only using them occasionally. The batteries are easier to change than some candles of this type. Some of this sort of candle require you to use a jewelers screwdriver to open the battery compartment, but these just have a plastic tab, so they're super easy to replace.

The only thing I would change about this product is that the whole candle lights up. It's a natural warm light that flickers gently and is very lovely. Some products have only the top half of the candle lighting up, which looks a lot more natural. I would have done something similar on these if I designed them, with a real looking wick halfway into the candle and light only on the top half of the candle, but other than that one small quibble, these are the nicest inexpensive faux candles I've seen and I definitely recommend them and would buy them again.

Measuring in at just a tad shy of 1.5" wide and 1.75" tall, this little candle was exactly what I was looking for. My family is sensitive to any type of scent, and this realistic looking votive is truly scent free. I bought 2 sets of 6 from Amazon Warehouse and am very pleased with the price and quality. All arrived quickly and in working order. I will update later on the battery life of the CR2032 lithium batteries, it is too soon to tell. I highly recommend this product as a gift!

1. they fit perfectly into the smaller votive holders than I have had problems finding candles for.

2. they're easy to set up

3. unlike other reviews, I don't have any issues with the way they look or operate. however,they are lit from top to bottom, which does look a little weird, but I personally like it, others may not.

4. the ones I received, are VERY waxy feeling feel like the real thing.

5. I ordered these on a Sunday, received them on Tuesday fast shipping.

I would recommend these to any one who needs a safe alternative to the real thing and who are looking for something a bit smaller in circumference than real votives.

I tried two other rechargeable lights that would only hold a charge for about 2-3 minutes. The first one I didn't keep my receipt from Lowes and it went to the junk. The second one I took back from wally world having kept everything as the main problem with these lights is they take a lot of power to run them. The brinkmann is heavy but that's because it actually has a lead acid battery like in your car. It will honestly go 25 minutes between charges and it will light up the night like no other light I ever had. Take your binoculars because it will shine on an object so far away that you won't be able to see it with the naked eye that's how good it is. It's heavy and it gets hot around the globe but who cares....just cowboy up and carry it around.

I got this light for Christmas two years ago (2008). I have used it every night since that day. After two years of use the battery doesn't hold a charge for more than 30 minutes so I end of charging it more often but it has held up longer than I imagined. Believe me when I say "this light will illuminate the world".

I bought one of these and it was a piece of junk. Charger would not charge battery, Right out of the box. I tried Brinkman Customer service which was a joke. You will never reach a real person. Brinkman's trick is to have a computer ask you to leave your number and they will have someone call you back. BULL! Never got a call back. I boxed it back up and sent it back. I would never buy another Brinkman product again.

Upgrading review. After three more charges it works much better now. Not sure why it worked so piss poor after the first charge. I did follow instructions and left it on charger till the light went out... bout 8 hrs or so.

Just bought this unit, charged it up, took it camping... piss poor performance! Would give it "0" ZERO stars but they don't give you that option.

I had a NightBlaster 6 volt for 15 years. I put the battery in the wrong way one time and fried it. But it blew this Brinkman 12 volt out of the water. I don't know why these other people are rating this the brightest one they have ever owned... but is no better then a regular flashlight with 2 D batteries. Maybe the manufacture got cheap and dropped the quality?

I saved the 6 volt battery and bulb from the old NightBlaster... Maybe I'll try putting inside this unit see what happens. Or maybe just send it back and buy the NightBlaster.

Why did I buy the Brinkman? It was less expensive then the NightBlaster. Gee, wonder why?

Because they are installed on our gutters (about 12 feet above the ground), they don't give spectacular light. They do provide sufficient and acceptable light over our bottom entry step. As with most LED, the light splays straight down. We solved the problem by installing four of these. I suggest you use Lithium batteries if you live in a cold climate. These lights are perfect for our needs.
