I am slowly replacing my beloved quartz halogen PAR20 and PAR38 ceiling can bulbs with LED bulbs as they burn out. I'm a visual artist and kind of a lighting bug, and color temperature is important. Halogen has always been my gold standard for pleasing and accurate warm room lighting. All the LED's I've tried basically are too cool for my taste. But they are getting a bit better. The latest TCP PAR20 I bought at 9 watts puts out 550 lumens which is also an improvement. The Ecosmart par20 I got at Home Depot in 2011 was 8 watts and only about 400 lumens. This is absolutely as bright as my 45 and 50 watt halogens, with an extremely even light spread across the beam.

I have tried dimming these on an X10 remote style wall switch dimmer, and they do buzz faintly which is disappointing. Perhaps a different kind of dimmer would reduce or eliminate this but I'm not sure. I know that not all dimmers use the same technology. You would probably only notice the buzz in a dead silent room.

As I am mixing these in the kitchen with quartz hal. lamps, the cooler white color is noticeable. I actually tape a little color correction gel film (1/4 CTO orange) over the bulb lens and it helps some, though it's still not that wonderful golden white halogen color. However, I do think if all the lights in the room are the same color maybe I would get used to it.

Not dead sure the TCP I got at OSH is exactly the same model as this. It was about the same price. At twenty three bucks or so this is a reasonable deal, since quartz bulbs are at least $8-10, last only a couple of years, and burn 5x more electricity. LED I would say is about 90% of the way to perfection. A bit truer warm color, fix the buzz, and get to $15 and we're there. I have 10 bulbs in my living room, all still halogen, and will be until that happens probably.

I am using this in a range hood. It correctly dims with a three position (off/ low/ high) dimming switch. It might work with a continuous "knob" style dimmer switch (rheostat or variable resistance for you EE's out there), but I don't have a switch like that to try it.

I can tolerate the 3000K light it provides. I like the 40 degree angle of the beam.

I liked the TCP LED9E26P2030KFL LED 9 Watt PAR20 40 Degree Flood Light by North because it dims with the off/low/high switch on my range hood and also lights faster (the Toshiba LDRB0927ME6USD PAR 20 Dimmable bulb has a noticeable delay to come "on", doesn't work in the "low" dim setting of my three position range hood switch of off/low/high). I can forgive the fact that this bulb is 3000K for it's light "temperature" (this makes things illuminated by it seem more "washed out" and less "golden" than the 2700K Toshiba bulb). This bulb also has a wider beam 40 degree angle vs the Toshiba's 27 degree angle, so a greater area of my cooktop is illuminated.

I just wish that this bulb had that 2700K "golden" light quality. It makes food look just a bit better than 3000K.

I am using this bulb in a reading lamp that is positioned fairly far from the reading material. This is a good arrangement because of the really bright output of this bulb. Too close and there might be some reflection.

I'm surprised at how pure and bright the light seems to be..well worth the cost.

There is a minor, short-lived, afterglow when the lamp is turned off. It is not so bright that it should disturb anyone, I think.

Looking forward to saving electricity with this low-wattage bulb.

The initial cost of these led bulbs is a bit daunting but the bulb is brighter than the 50 watt halogen it replaced & should last much longer.

In general I like this light bulb a lot. I have an array of 5 halogen bulbs (PAR20) on a dimmer. I put this one in and its color matches the others fine when on full power, but it stays the same color while the halogen bulbs turn redder as they are dimmed. When they all are LEDs, I think the consistency of color with dimming will be good. The light source in this bulb is not the full diameter -you can see from the picture that the LEDs are in the middle spot, and the parts around the edge are solid white material -maybe cooling fins. So the bulb looks different. Again, when all 5 are LEDs, I think it will look fine. The halogens burn out fast enough that I expect to replace all of them within a year or so.

Just got my flashlights today. I had never heard of the Pailide brand of flashlight before, so took a risk in trying them out.

The 3AAA model is well constructed, well designed, light without feeling cheap, and affordable. I'm not typically a fan of multiple LED lights (I prefer the single, brighter bulbs). I bought one because I was ordering others and it was an inexpensive impulse buy.

The light intensity on this model is a little diffused (which is sometimes a good thing). It's a little bigger than the single A models which I prefer, but it's not unwieldy. It could go in your pocket, but you would know it's there. I think the color is fun and I would bet that it will outlast the other models I bought with stronger LED bulbs.

This was a good purchase overall and I'm happy with it. I'll post a similar review for the other models I bought.

Maxxima MLS-01 Occupancy Sensor LED Light Review

I bought this to illuminate dark areas on my stairs which have no electrical outlet nearby for safe passage at night.

The LED light is certainly bright enough to illuminate the stairs at night for safe passage. in fact my lovely wife complains it's TOO bright. It will last far longer than a fluorescent or incandescent bulb, and will give more illumination bang for the battery-life buck than either of those. So LED is a good choice for this application.

The range is around 10 feet, which is minimally acceptable for my purposes, but certainly good for a closet.

Two things that are less than ideal for my purposes:

The motion detector cannot "see" motion that is above the plane of the sensor. So you can't put it on the landing below and expect it to illuminate the stairs when you descend from above.

The light sensor is not sensitive enough, so that the little bugger still illuminates during the day despite regular houselights being on. Not a problem, but rather wasteful.

It would also be nice if the motion sensor could be rotated to point away from the light, but that's asking too much for such a reasonably priced item.

All in all, if you need to intermittently spot-illuminate an area without an outlet, this will do the trick.

I bought two of these lights and are delighted with them!

They really do have the range they claim. One, I placed on my husband's dresser in the bedroom (am always tripping over his laundry basket when he forgets to put it away). And it immediately turns on as soon as I enter the doorway (approx. 13 feet away).

The other is in the livingroom on the windowsill, so when he gets up in the middle of the night for a snack, it immediately turns on so he's not tripping over anything or walking into the corners of furniture.

It is a bright light (but not overly so), and stays on long enough to pass through the room ...and if I want it to stay on, I can either flip a switch on it OR keep moving into it's sensor range.

This is a GREAT item for dark areas of your home. AND it works just like it says it does.

I highly recommend!

I don't know why people degrade a product rating when they simply did not order a product that suits their requirements. This light is not intended to light up a room, it's designed to let you see your way when no other light is available. What it's designed to do, it does superbly.

The motion sensor is extremely sensitive and never fails; it doesn't waste batteries by turning on when other light is available and so the batteries last a long time. It can rest on a table top or hang on a wall with the provided screw. It does take four AA batteries but they last a long time. I have one beside my bed that allows me to get up during the night to make my way to the bathroom without the shock of turning on a bright light. I have another in the bathroom, same reason.

I came back today to order three more, one for my study where I have to cross the room to turn on a light, another for my storage shed, another for my truck cab where the overhead has quit working.

You can get cheaper but not with anywhere near the performance. As you can tell, I'm very pleased with this product and that seldom happens these days so I'm happy to take the time to write a rave review.

We placed one at the bottom and one at the top of our staircase. The sensor knows day from night, thus saving battery life. The light is bright, but not over powering.

I sleep in the far end of an 18X10 bedroom and have to get up occasionally at night. The light switch is at the other end of the room and the lamp by my bed isn't convenient to find when waking up, so this light is the solution. It sits by the door on an etergere and turns on with a wave of my hand when I come through the door or by itself after I'm 5 feet or so inside. It is sensitive enough to know I got out of bed and makes actually a little too much light when I've been sleeping and my eyes don't want a bright light shining at me. Perhaps I can find a better location. In fact it's bright enough to the point that as I get out of my bed and walk to the door, I have to shade my eyes with my hand.

I use NImH AA batteries (4) and they need charging at around 3 months.

One problem with the setup of having it point at the bed from the far door is that it comes on by itself sometimes and wakes me up. Maybe I'm thrashing around in my sleep, I don't know.

I might try putting it under my bed facing the door to see how that works, but all in all I'm very happy with this item. I've had it for about a year now.

Great light, one of my favorite tools. Lasts several hours on a full charge before it starts dimming. Provides a pretty good amount of light in either mode. Yellow stands out.

Magnet in the bottom is kinda nice, but not strong enough to really stick it to something horizontally and have it stay put. It MIGHT hang upside down by the magnet, but I wouldn't count on it. It WILL hold it in place if you stick it on the frame under your hood or the edge of a computer case (careful with magnets in there), etc.

The joint is pretty stiff, and I don't anticipate it ever not holding it's position.

Having used this light on multiple hikes, backpacking trips, and climbing trips, I have to say it is one of the best pieces of equipment I've ever owned.

Much of the headlamp market is filled with near-identical clones that differ only in LED and battery types, but the Vizion is a rare example of innovation.

Pros:

-----

-Waterproof, durable cylindrical casing. This thing looks and feels extremely solid, and there are no hinges or moving switches to break.

-Everything is integrated into one sleek unit; there are no interchangeable filters or tiny screws to lose.

-Extremely adjustable.

* Three filter modes (spot white, diffuse white, diffuse red). Both white modes are great for night hikes/climbs; the LED is bright and the diffuser does its job well. The red is awesome for around-the-campsite use (it doesn't blind others as much and helps preserve night vision).

* Two beam levels (high and low).

* Angle adjustment (up to down).

-Comfortable as hell. The weight all but disappears on my head, thanks to the snug casing that stays close to the head and the wide, comfortable headband.

-Uses widely-available AAA batteries. There are great rechargeables out there, including the newer low-discharge NiMHs (eneloops, Duracell Pre-charged, etc.).

-Big, tactile on-off button.

Cons:

-----

-Adjustment knob for filters requires two hands to operate -you have to keep one hand on the center part of the casing while twisting the knob. It's too tight for one-handed adjustments. Not a big problem, as I usually just set the mode prior to an activity and then let it be. The angle knob, on the other hand, is smooth and easily adjustable.

-Lantern mode, while neat in concept, isn't terribly useful in practice. The unidirectional light is good for lighting up a specific area, but I usually use lanterns in the center of a group to light up a circle around the area we occupy. The Vizion can't do that.

-The beam power adjustment via the on-off button is a bit counter-intuitive. It goes high-off-low-off instead of high-low-off. It's not that easy to tell the two levels apart, so it might take a few cycles of practice to be able to accurately gauge the lamp's current power level.

Conclusion:

The overall usability and durability of the headlight far outweighs its minor flaws. It's quickly grown to be my favorite lightsource and I now carry it with me on every evening/night trip I take.

Pros:

1. Large, easy to find power button.

2. Two brightness levels.

3. Comfortable, with easy to adjust strap and no headlamp pad like some. It just uses the strap as a cushion underneath the unit.

4. Angle adjustment is not preset like some. It will rotate, within a certain range, to the desired spot which allows for fine-tuning of position. Also, it is not possible to knock the position out of alignment like on most headlamps. Once it is set, it is set.

Cons:

1. This con just depends on your memory. If you forget which side the angle adjustment is you might end up flipping through the filters instead, and vice versa.

2. Not the brightest LED, even with fresh batteries.

3. Red filter is not as red as you might expect. Especially not as red as true red LED's like on other units.

4. Sometimes it takes two hands to rotate the angle, and it definitely takes two hands to rotate the filter sleeve. Either that or you push it hard on your forehead while you use one hand.

5. Diffusion filter has little effect.

6. The filter sleeve (lens) rotates around the light. The problem with this is the lens gets small scratches every time you rotate it. I've only rotated the lens less than 10 times and already there are several noticeable abrasions. Over time this will create a haziness that will lower light output.

7. The focus of this LED is not great for up-close work. Even when using the different filter options.

8. This isn't a con of this particular light, but lights like this that only have one LED. When working on projects up close, the LED hampers 3D vision/depth perception. I recommend a unit with stereo LED's. I had an old, less durable, Energizer like this that was perfect for up-close work and had a single LED for long-range (walking, etc.). Also with a two LED unit, when working on things like cars where one LED and eye might get blocked by something, you still have your other LED and eye to see with. I did not realize this would be a problem until buying this unit.

Not a pro or con, but the color of this light is lower on the kelvin scale than many other units. Not quite yellow, but definitely lower.

Also, some might want to know that there is no flashing feature on this headlamp.

Overall a good waterproof light. Good for average use such as hiking/walking in very dark environments. (LED is not bright enough for brighter situations.) I wouldn't recommend this light for any precision work, especially at close range.

I started to look for a new head lamp after my 4th Petzl had cracked at the top. Sick of paying $40+ for a light to only last a year. I had used Petzl in the field, backpacking and in Iraq and alway had an extra one around. I really like the fact Petzl had a red lens and a very low setting. Funny thing about the UK light on the low is a little too bright if you are worried about that kind of thing.

I have had one for 4? Years and still going strong. I love it around camp as it lights up everything. My wife over heard a couple guys on a backpacking trip who had to walk 5 miles at 2 am in the dark with headlamps because they got to the tail head late. She nodded and said how sorry she was for them, but laughed to me because she knew with "our" lights this would not even be an issue!

The high and low are so close to tell which one you are on you have to look out 20 meters and switch it back and forth, If you need a dim light up close you have to switch to red or it is almost blinding. Not a big issue for me.

Pros bright, well made, red lens does not attract bugs

After having a Petzl headlamp fail me during a light rainstorm at night, I have been searching for a truly waterPROOF headlamp.

Just dropped this one in a 12 foot deep swimming pool and it was totally dry when I pulled it out (not even any condensation).

This lamp is ruggedly built and came with three copper top batteries (my favorite). The head strap is wide and thick.

On all counts--price, quality, reliability, ease of use and made in USA, this headlamp is head and shoulders above the cheap, unreliable, imported junk that will fail you when you most need it.

[Yes. I am still sore about that Petzl headlamp. "Whatever doen't kill me makes me angry."]

After I ordered these flashlights I had a conversation with a friend who had spent $70 on his LED carry-around emergency torch. He said I'd learn soon enough why he spent $70 and I kinda did.

The turnaround time on the order was reasonable, about a week. They came in one of those plastic wrappings that demand a set of butcher shop kitchen shears to get open. There were six packages of AA batteries in the box along with six lanyard loops. As I took the flashlights out of the box I noticed that there were two different patterns in the machined aluminum, four of one with knurl texture on the front lens area. The other set was smooth raised rings around the lens area.

The batteries were a bit past their prime, to say the least. Very cheap, somewhat irregular shapes & signs of the beginnings of corrosion & leakage on the bottom of a couple batteries. I stuffed each flashlight with the batteries provided and then replaced them with AA Energizers after I saw how dim the flashlights were with the batteries provided. Made quite a difference.

One of the flashlights did not light up. Unlike the $10 9-LED torches I have for my ham radio stuff, the circuit board holding the LEDs in these flashlights were pressed into place at the front of the tube. (The $10 versions have a ring threaded into the removable lens holding part of the tube to hold the LED board & reflector in place.) Since the center spring has to avoid shorting out against a trace running ground to the center LED, I figured it might be shorted. I used a pair of long needle nose pliers to pull the spring up from the circuit board. That fixed the dysfunctional flashlight and it worked just fine. Those who do not have 50-odd years of playing with electrons would think they'd bought a bum flashlight and, without my experience, I would have thought so too. (I smile at the thought that I fixed the damn thing instead of tossing it in the trash: my usual response as age creeps up on me.)

Overall these six flashlights will work just fine around the house for peering into places under the sink or into a convection oven where my aging eyes don't seem to work so well with ambient light. These flashlights are good enough for finding the lock on the door in the dark when I forget to turn on the porch light before I leave. I stuffed one of them in my ham radio emergency kit and another in the console of my car. Two of 'em I kept in my office for the same reason I need one in the kitchen.

I was a little bothered that the lanyard loops were not installed on the cases of the batteries. Even with needle nose pliers and a magnifying lens, putting the little rings for the lanyards into their holes on the flashlight cases was a test of my essential tremor. Weren't easy but I got it done eventually.

I'd buy another box of six if I needed more, but I think six is just enough. That's what these are anyway: flashlights just enough to do non-critical illumination of come-what-may situations around the house. I wouldn't depend on one for signaling in the desert or attracting helicopters to a crash sight. They're good enough for home. They're good enough for me.

You do get what you pay for, although I'm not about to invest $70 in a flashlight for around the house. Money reasonably well spent, even if I did have to fix one myself.

Because of thin metal and poor threading unable to screw back on flashlight. Afterwards tried to turn flashlight on by pressing the back of light on and the switch popped in. I would never trust a single flashlight to work. Need all six to find one to work. Total junk. Find other brand not this garbage. sjr
