Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program We have one dark corner of our front yard that needed intermittent light for when we come home at night. These two lights fit the bill for guiding us to our gate. The 20 lumens each light radiates is enough to see the ground and around the base of our gate. (See my customer image above) It's better than no light at all. The dark color of the plastic make these lights less obvious when not lighted up.

The lights are made from all plastic, which is initially a turn-off for me. Craftsmanship appears OK. Since these are staked in our yard I'm not expecting much rugged treatment from them.

To insert the three C-cell batteries one needs a small straight edge like a dime or the edge of a spoon to turn the two screws open. I'd have preferred a flip switch or something more convenient. I'd have also preferred AA batteries, which are easier to come by these days.

The lights come on when you insert the three C-cell batteries, but then go out again to await the darkness. The sensors work well at night and sense motion at around ten feet away, even peripherially.

We live in the high desert of southern Arizona where it does get below freezing at night in the winter. So far, so good. Now I'm curious to see how long the three batteries work.

UPDATE January 19, 2013: These lights survived a snowfall and six days of record cold for southern Arizona. That means nightime lows in the low 20s for all you Northerners. These lights are still working like champs!

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I live in the country where it's really dark and a trip to the barn can be a challenge at night. These are doing the trick. When I drive in at night and decide to feed the animals before going in the house (where I could turn on the outside lights) I know my motion sensitive garage light won't stay on long enough to still be on when I start back to the house. When I turn off the barn lights, it's black as pitch out there. A few of these in strategic places gives me enough light to get back to the house. I only got one pack which includes two lights to begin with and when I saw how helpful they were, I ordered another pack.

The only down side I can see is that in the cold and with the dog setting them off regularly, the batteries may not last terribly long, but I'll see and update. I worried a little about the elements and decided to make them little hats out of foil which I affixed with a little tube of backward folded duck tape to the top. So far that is working fine and even seems to diffuse the light a bit more giving somewhat more lighted area. Of course this is a rustic setting so the fact that it doesn't look quite so neat doesn't matter. Generally I like that fact that with the dark matte finish they blend into the ground cover and I'm not even aware they are there (except for their new hats :).

Oh, one more thing. The directions in the pack I got said I could set the tiny timer inside to 20 seconds or 5 minutes before the light went off. I chose the 5 minutes but it doesn't stay on that long, more like 3 minutes. I'm good with that, but thought I should mention it.

I've only been using them a week, so time will tell about long term effectiveness and I'll update one way or the other, but so far so good.

Update 3/23/13: Still doing great. Been buried in snow, rained on and turned on regularly by the animals with no ills effects.

Best Deals for Mr. Beams MB572 Battery Powered Motion Sensing LED Path Light

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program These Mr. Beams path LEDs lights provide a quick solution for illuminating a dark pathway, especially if you have potentially hidden steps. Battery life is excellent, wind doesn't activate the lights, they're bright, and they have a nice professional look. I originally considered professional installation of a low voltage lighting system for our front walkway because it had steps and was difficult to navigate at night. But at $2,000, it was hard to justify when these lights provided the same functional value at a fraction of the cost (note that I received these free through the Amazon Vine program).

Tips for using this product:

Place the light close to your walk area. Although the lights are bright, they won't illuminate much surface area if you have them placed too far back.

If possible, locate light in a shady area. Although I didn't experience this, I suspect that the plastic materials will degrade over time and crack/fade from sun exposure.

Product Strengths:

Excellent workmanship and quality

Quick light activation and resistance to wind

Nice looking accessory for your walkway doesn't look cheap

Perfect color minimizes visual distractions for pedestrians yet functional

Easy battery installation many outdoor devices like this are difficult to install batteries in, this device is a snap.

Long stake for inserting deep into the ground. Some competing models have shorter stakes and are prone to getting knocked over.

Product Weaknesses:

No exterior metal casing I would have paid more for this had it been available in brushed aluminum or bronze metal. The dimensions of the light are perfect, but the plastic external material would look more classy and be more durable in metal.

Would I Recommend?

Yes, these lights provide excellent walkway coverage and strike a good balance between price, performance, and great looks. I also high recommend the Mr. Beams MB363 Wireless LED Spotlight with Motion Sensor and Photocell, Black, 3-Pack I've used these for a few months and they provide the same bright illumination and reliability as the path lights.

Rating Justification:

5 stars for high quality manufacturing, 5 stars for value and ease of use, 5 stars for brightness, 5 starts for setup and battery installation, 4 stars for looks, five stars for activation accuracy (turning on lights at correct times), and five stars for battery life. Overall this is an excellent path lighting system.

Honest reviews on Mr. Beams MB572 Battery Powered Motion Sensing LED Path Light

I bought this so I could keep track of my dogs when they are in the yard at night. It works very well. I only wish the light was brighter. Other than that, I'm glad I bought this item.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Seeing how small these were compared to some previous lights, we had some concerns that they might not be rugged to stand up to snow, and the occasional knocking over by the shovel on the sidewalk path. I am glad to report that these have done well through a winter of very heavy rain and several snow storms and shovels without any problem. In fact I will be buying a few more to light the rest of the path.

The light was bright enough to be quite helpful in seeing icy conditions on the path throughout the winter.
