I have an oil leak from the rear of my vintage Datsun's engine, which annoyingly remains even after changing the rear seal and oil pan gasket. So I put in a 1 oz bottle of Tracerline dye and drove around the neighborhood.
Armed with this powerful light and yellow glasses the leaks appear like trails of glowing orange paint off the rear of my bellhousing. I can even see areas around the oil pan where there is no leak, but enough of the dye wick'd through to show, as well as a trace on the front balancer seal. Neat.
To save money I had tried using a cheap black light bulb but saw nothing. So I bought this inexpensive light which is worth every penny. I can't wait to pull the trans and flywheel to see where the oil is really coming from.
UPDATE: My rear seal and oil pan were fine and dry, the leak was coming from the oil gallery plug. I replaced it with a 1/4" NPT and thread sealer and its now tight as a drum.

I used this light in conjunction with one bottle of Tracer Products TP34000601 UV Fluorescent Leak Detection Dye Set of 6 (also a 5* product please see that review for detail).Using this light of this flashlamp and the aforeto metioned dye, a fuel leak in the engine compartment of our car looked like molten lava dripping out. I had been unable to find the leak under 'white' light.
This flashlight has an aluminum barrel and end-caps. It has o-ring seals so it should be resistant to the elements. A nice feature is that it can be switched on intermittently by pressing the button on the end cap or continuously by screwing the end cap snugly against the barrel. The light was bright enough to easily locate the leak although I was working under the proverbial 'shade tree' when it was used. I did walk around the house after dark to look for urine stains. The light output seemed strong but no stains were found except in the litter box. Good kitty!
At first I thought that the included yellow safety glasses were provided just to protect the user's retina from UV damage but they actually increase the contrast of the fluorescent glow. They are of pretty good quality, too. There was no noticable optical distortion and they were well protected for shipping.
Using this combination of the UV light and fluorescent dye saved me a lot of time and money repairing our car!

This was the only to find my antifreeze leak. I fixed my car for under $30. No nonsense with this Ultra Violet Dye technology.Honest reviews on Uview 413010 Battery Powered, 6 LED Leak Detection Light
This light could use a few more l.e.d.'s. Even in the dark with the glasses on you can barely see the U.V. light. You have to hold the light ridiculously close to whatever part of the system you're checking. I'm just glad I didn't spend much money on it.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Uview 413010 Battery Powered, 6 LED Leak Detection Light
At least for automotive UV dye detection, in a dark garage, this flashlight and glasses work brilliantly! 5 stars. The flashlight button is annoying because you have to hold it down constantly to keep it on, and the key ring for the wrist strap gets in the way and can fight you. Minus one star. Maybe later I will take it apart and make it easier to leave on when in service.
The glasses make the small amount of visible light from the flashlight almost disappear. So when you see light, it's 100% glowing UV. Could not ask for more from a visibility perspective. Love it.
EDIT:
Now 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5.
I yanked off the little metal ring that holds on the strap, which was easy to do. Now the button is easy enough to press. If it had come like that without the ring or strap, I never would have noticed anything missing.
