I didn't buy this switch on Amazon, but I purchased it somewhere else. I could have saved over $10 by buying it on Amazon! First of all, you should know that you need a neutral wire accessible to make this switch light work. If you have that, then you are good to go! The switch uses slide in, slide out connections which tighten with a screw for your electrical connections on the back of the switch. This is not a 3-way switch. The nightlight on the switch is dimable. The nightlight also turns off when the light in the room is bright, turns back on when the light is low. This operation is electrically independent of the switch itself. The electric sensor for the auto function nighlight can be disabled so that its always on, or always off. Further, you can manually turn on the night light simply by pushing on the lens. I got this nightlight to provide a little more lighting for my night vision cameras for my security system. It also makes it easy to find your way around at night. I highly recommend this switch.I used two of these to replace wall switches in my condo. They have a sharp appearance and I get compliments on them. The kitchen switch/lite now provides guidance for midnight water runs without having to turn on the lights. The bathroom switch/lite likewise enables the other kind of midnight water runs. The light level range is perfect. It also gives my grandchildren a sense of security by not having a fully darkened room, while not interfering with their sleep. These units are a vast design improvement over wall toggle switches with lighted handles. My only caveat: the mfr. should put a notice on the box that these units only work where both the neutral (white) and hot (black) wires exist inside the switch box. Many wall switches contain only the hot (black) wire; this unit will not work in such a situation. To check your wiring: first trip your circuit breaker, then open your switch box by removing the wall plate, and peek in with a flashlight to see if there are both black and white wires inside.
