In this case, it was even better than I had hoped. The front firing LEDs on this bulb worked well with the placement of the reading light sockets above and behind my head while lying in bed. The light output was much greater and had a smoother beam than the incandescent bulbs that were replaced. Much of the old light was lost due to a poor small reflector. The small optics over each of the 9 small LEDs in this bulb directed the light right where it was needed. I am considering these same bulbs in E27 medium bases for some recessed hall lights in my home. So far my only concern with these bulbs is long term performance. These bulbs don't have large heat sinks which makes them great to fit in smaller fixtures. The downside is that heat is the killer of LEDs. After leaving the bulbs on for extended periods, there does not seem to be excess heat buildup. But the extensive use of plastic in this bulb with almost no metal visible could foreshadow heat buildup problems in the future. So far the heat seeks to be dissipating well through the base.
Note: Pay attention to the color in the bulb description. These are available in different color temperatures. Personally, I like the near-daylight 5000-5500K versions that I purchased even though this color temperature is harder to find. There are some people who dislike the "blue tint" they see in such bulbs. If that's a worry, order the 2700-3000K bulbs that are closer to the "yellow tint" of incandescent bulbs.

We have Ikea lamps that use E17 bulbs but we didn't want to use regular bulbs during summer because they produce so much heat. After looking for them everywhere online, I realized that the only two LED options were these and Ikea's bulbs. You can't order Ikea online unless it is from a reseller and we didn't like their bulbs because they are yellow (warm) light. These Aubing bulbs are white light at a reasonable price and safe a lot of money all by themselves and by reducing heat during summer.
