I've been slowly replacing all of my incandescent bulbs with LEDs, since they first hit the market. With each new bulb, I'd experiment to see which color temperatures, types of diffusers, and brightness levels worked best in each location.

This bulb is the last replacement I needed. The reason it took so long is that it's for an open socket in my unfinished basement, which has a fairly low ceiling. Therefore, I wanted a bright, true omni-directional, since I couldn't accommodate a large bulb or fixture with a diffuser. I tried 3000k bulbs, but they seemed too yellow for all the wood and cardboard, and I decided at least 4500k would be necessary. I'd shopped in stores and online, but I never found a bulb that seemed quite what I wanted, until now.

This one fit the bill perfectly. It's truly bright (clearly much brighter than the 60 W incandescent it replaced), and seems to provide a reasonably white light. Unlike the old bulb, I can easily distinguish green, brown, and purple cans, and separate my black and navy blue socks even in indirect light! It's a true omni-directional, almost as much so as the old-style incandescents. It's a bit dazzling, if you look directly at it. Uncomfortable, but not quite painful I'm glad I didn't go for anything brighter! There's no perceivable flicker or turn-on delay. The packaging seemed adequate but not excessive a cardboard inner tray/sleeve inside a paperboard box. There's even a thoughtful little tab, by which the bulb can easily be lifted out of the box.

So far, I've only used it a couple of times, but I'll update this review if it dies or develops any quirks. The 3-year warranty does lend some peace of mind, on that front. I feel it was well worth the additional cost over the other options I considered. Remember, an LED bulb is something you'll probably be living with for a long time, so don't focus too much on the up-front cost. And operating costs are so much lower than incandescent that I don't even worry about the slight efficiency differences between different makes and models of LED lights.
