The optics on this light are great. The variable power output and the zoom really saved me on a recent expedition. The biggest problem on this light is the angle adjustment for the light. It just flops around between sort of "I am telling a ghost story effect" and straight ahead. I use this light hiking and over reasonable terrain it jumps around quite a bit. I am going to have to try and adapt something perhaps out of velcro to fix it. If you were to take this light and put it in a petzel band with the petzel mount it would be a home run. For now though this company is much better at making the light itself than make headlamps.

I do a lot of camping and backcountry skiing. I also work in search and rescue in the Sierras. I've been using a variety of headlamps of other manufacturers, but just hadn't found one that did what I needed. When my last one died, I asked one of our searchers, who's known as the "ultimate gear geek", as well as a very hard core searcher, what he used. He recommended this little H7. He said he's been using if for a couple years and is so impressed that it's one of the only pieces of gear he's held onto.I purchased one and was amazed. I needed a light that was bright enough for skiing and searching at night in a snowstorm, and I've finally found it! I compared this headlamp to my hand held, rechargeable Streamlite, and it's brighter than the streamlite!
The headlamp's light and comfortable to wear. The controls are solid and work perfectly, and the overall build quality is very good. I've found the headlamp to be so powerful, that even when searching the backcountry and night, I rarely have the light turned up past about half power.
Overall, an outstanding headlamp!

I am an airline mechanic, working mostly at night. This light is the envy of the hangar! It is the brightest light around, throws a great adjustable focus beam and uses standard AAA batteries.Can't think of any negatives.

After MANY hours of hard use, I do have one complaint. The wires running from the batt pack to the light are thin and broke after flexing several thousand times.
Still, not a deal breaker. In fact, I think I will order another!

I read an article in a backpacking magazine that a friend of mine subscribed to in 2011 that awarded a Black Diamond headlamp, "headlamp of the year" as its best. Naturally I spent some time researching before I went out and bought the "headlamp of the year" which consisted of a decent amount of researching on a product I have never used before. After a bit of time comparing various headlamps I kept reading great reviews and watched videos about LED Lenser, which I had never heard of before but am happy I became aware of. I was looking for the most lumens and battery time at a reasonable price and throughout my search I kept coming back to this particular headlamp, after enough research and reviews I came to a conclusion and the final decision that had to be this headlamp and I will never regret it. I had purchased this headlamp because I was about to move to a farm on Kauai which had no power whatsoever. I spent three months using this lamp every night while I cooked my girlfriend and I dinner on a propane camp stove outside of our tent, the other majority of the time I used it was while I was harvesting vegetables to cook the delicious meals, hikes at night or scavenging for drift wood to fuel the fire for our regular bon fires on the beach and out of those three months I never had to replace the batteries.The entire time I was using this headlamp I had heard multiple people praise the ridiculous brightness that it provided and most of the people that were giving praise to the headlamp were well traveled people who have spent a considerable amount of time and money looking for an adequate source of light to guide them through the night on their travels. Its ability to adjust from a wall of light to a spotlight is great, the amount of light that comes out of the headlamp truly does make most other headlamps obsolete, if you dont believe me then buy one, they're inexpensive so you would not be taking a big loss at all and more than likely will be completely impressed.
The ocean and my profession at the time began to erode the innards of my headlamp which in turn ruined it, it still works but after a minute or two the light subsides to its lowest level of luminosity which really does make me sad but knowing the fact that I could buy a new one for less than $40 dollars counter acts that in a second.
This is the first and only headlamp I would recommend to anyone I know, you're capable of directing the light in a beam or a wall of light and you also have the option of adjusting how much power you're giving either setting. I plan on going backpacking for the next year and already know that my headlamp with be provided by LED Lenser.
This happens to be the first review I have EVER written and felt that this particular piece of equipment was worthy of one, especially for a noob like me. It really is that good, its ridiculous. If you dont believe me just try it, its cheap and I know you will not be upset with where your money has gone.

High quality LED, very bright and I like the adjustable brightness and beam width. Unfortunately, the elastic strap around the head is quite loose and almost imposible to get tight enough if you are running and jumping along. It does definitely need a third strap like the H14 model. It is a nice headlamp the overall quality is good but the strap is poor which makes not usable for every outdoor activity you might want to do. So good quality but limited use. I gave it 3 stars because of that.
