I like the Low Power and High Power Option .I puts out a good amount of light, and has a two year warrenty. Three AA,s power it. Ive had it for about 1 week.

A detailed, technical review.

The "Designers Edge l-1198 LED Worklight" puts out a very bright flood of white light. I have a lot of LED lights including some high end 1 watt and 3 watt models and this inexpensive low-tech model surprised me with the sheer volume of light that it cranks out with the simple notion that putting a ton of LED's together will make a lot of light. In this case, it works.

Comparing this to a conventional 2 D cell flashlight is almost funny since you can't even tell that the D cell light is on when this is fired up. Most other LED lights of comparable size that run on AA's don't put out near this much light and even a full size Coleman Fluorescent lamp running on 4 D cells pales in comparison.

The L-1198 is a cheap light with plastic construction, so it's not expedition ready or small enough to fit in your pocket.

It would be more useful if it had a small, sturdy built-in stand so you could set it upright on a table for car camping. At least there is a plastic hook for hanging it but the hook feels like it could break off any minute. If that happened the light would still work fine.

I use a Fenix L1T LED version 2.0 or an Arc LED AAA for more serious work or remote trails. Those are both tough, high end, fully regulated pocket lights that throw a nice wide beam pretty far. The Fenix L1T 2.0 is pretty small with high and low beam and it has considerably more power than the tiny Arc AAA light but both are nearly indestructable and highly recommended.

Meanwhile the L-1198 of this review is not regulated so it will get dimmer as the batteries discharge but its odd array of 36 LED's sure lights up the room or an entire campsite on a full set of batteries. I was rather surprised the first time I turned this one on.

Electrical tests indicate the L-1198 should run about 4 hours on high (due to 500 milli-amp current draw), and about 10 hours on low (at 200mA) when using standard 2500mA-Hr NiMh AA batteries. Alkaline AA's would be similar and Lithium AA"s would run at least twice as long.

The Designers Edge L-1198 is an unconventional looking, simple and really bright flood light that would be very useful in a camping or night-time car repair situation. Based on it's plastic construction I would not say that it's very tough but mine works fine so far and it sure is bright.

Worked for about two months, then stopped working. I also hate that you can stand this thing up (the bottom is round). Very cheaply made.
