I liked the idea of having USB and battery options for power, but this lamp is a real piece of junk. Within a month over half the LED's were burned out and the rest were flickering. Don't buy.

This product was a quick return1. It will not stand up unless you have batteries in the base for ballast
2. The "D" batteries specified will not fit into the base (the middle slot in particular)
3. It is made of very cheap plastic.
4. The USB power cord is fairly short--so if you connect it for power via USB, you are very constrained where it can sit on your desk.
While the light emitted is fairly good, the design of this lamp made it fairly useless.

Update:After four months of using this lamp on USB power, several of the LEDs have burned out and the lamp isn't putting out enough light to make it worthwhile to turn it on. I had high hopes for this lamp, but I have to say just don't bother buying it.
My original review:
The three D batteries added a nice stability to the base, after I managed to get them into their slots. The battery cover didn't close properly, but heck, it's on the bottom. But the LEDs aren't very bright and they flicker when battery power is used. USB power is much brighter and doesn't flicker. However, be aware that you can't leave the batteries in to weight the base and still use the USB cord. It's one or the other.

I bought this thinking it would be very convenient with all of the various ways of charging and using the lamp. However from the second day of use onward the LEDs slowly began to flicker, turn yellow, and burn out. I never used the outlet or batteries, the lamp was only in use via the USB power chord, and only for a few hours each night.Every week more LEDs have burned out until now, four weeks later, 12 are dead, 5 more and flickering, and 7 are yellow and dimming. That's 24 out of the 36 LEDs defective in less than a month.
Now, I am fighting to get a refund because the packaging I received was so damaged that it is unfit to ship back, because it physically ripped open during shipping, but it is now on me to get it back to them in the original packaging. I will never buy from the seller I did, and hope to have my confidence restored in Amazon with this unique situation.
