I would have preferred the supporting connector to the junction box to be longer. Using the sensor, the lights would not go off if you used the 10 or 20 minutes cut off times on the booster range mode, so when I called up tech support they say you can't use those times in the booster mode because the sensor after one minutes would keep sensing the heat so you need to turn back the sensitivity settings which worked fine after that, but I wished they would have at least mention that in the instructions. But then why advertise increase sensitivity range if you can't use it with halogen lights.

I bought two of these sensors for a customer, one for over the garage door 20 feet up, and on for flood next to front door pointing towards driveway.

This is now the forth time I have been called back for miss operating sensors, the garage one just stays on and the front porch one works,,,, then doesn't, then just stays on. Sensor is mounted below two 90 watt floods in a red dot box with sensor set to half, 1 minute cut off, with boost off.

Never again will I use these sensors, went the electric supply house even they said they were junk, and directed me to a Rab-Stelth STL110.

They are twice the price, but are the real deal, will chime back after install & some time.

Better buy more than you need. One did not work out of the box. Light would come on randomly and stay on. Would cycle normally other times. Sensitivity control didn't seem to work. Other one i bought works like it should.

Honest reviews on Heath/Zenith SL-5316-BZ-C Deluxe Replacement Motion Sensor

I bought this to replace a failed sensor on one of the three newer style Heath/Zenith flood light fixtures we have installed on our home. This particular flood fixture is only about two years old so I'm hoping that this is just a fluke and the two other flood fixtures won't also have early sensor failure like this one did. Our previous flood light fixtures were also Heath/Zenith, but they worked reliably for ten years before any sensor issues occurred, which is why we replaced them with the same brand.

I do generally like the design of these sensors though and they normally seem to work very well in the backyard and driveway locations that we have them in. I don't really need or use the DualBright feature, but I find that the 240-degree sensor area gives decent coverage and the distance for motion detection is quite good with the additional range boost set to around 80-percent. For the price, this replacement sensor seems to be a good match for the original with very similar specs and features, so overall I've been happy with it. I'm just hoping it lasts longer than the one it replaced.

The existing flood-light on our garage has a Dual-Brite controller, and I wanted the same for the pendant light outside our front door. I like the idea of the light being on all night at reduced brightness for security as well as aesthetics. I wired this up last evening, and made some adjustments, and it works just fine; however, Heath/Zenith made a change I wish they hadn't. The new controller changes the light level up and down like flipping a hi-lo switch, while the old one on the garage "fades" from dim to bright and back. I will probably go ahead and swap them out so the light by the door goes from dim to bright more smoothly when approaching. Maybe a petty gripe, but I really like the old operation better.

Other than what's noted above, the sensor does what it should when it should.

EDIT 7/12/13 Since writing this review, I have learned that Heath/Zenith still makes the sensor with the "fade" feature. This function is called "Bulb-Saver," and is available in the Heath Zenith SL-5716-WH-A 270-Degree Replacement Motion Sensor, White. Unfortunately, it is only supplied as a stand-alone item in white and black. Heath/Zenith does not provide the sensor separately in bronze. If this color is needed/desired, It can only be purchased as part of the entire light assembly.
