A 180 lumen spotlight/flashlight. It lights up your whole bedroom, or hallway on the way to the bathroom at 2:00am! Very Bright. DON'T LOOK AT THE LIGHT!!!

Light weight, fits the hand good. I wanted a flashlight that did not need bulb replacement, this one has a "forever bulb". I wanted a flashlight that uses AA, this uses 4 AA and has a 5 hour run time. In a 4 day outage it should last if used conservatively.

For me it is a perfect flashlight/spotlight.

Instructions on installing batteries is non-existent and hard to figure out. The black bottom UNSCREWS! and the batteries go in two positive inward, and two positive outwards. There are little TINY pictures that show which way so look carefully.

All in all a 5/5 and a good deal to boot!! With another small item, free shipping is available.

Edit: Bought in Nov, 09. Now Apr, 2010. Still on original batteries, with no recharge! Not as bright of course, just a noticeable tad less, but still bright enough for indoors, and still shines across the street, real good. Real good for a 5 hour continuous run time. Best flashlight on the planet, my humble opinion. Why do you think 12 people, so far, give it 5 STARS?!?!?! It is AWESOME!!

EDIT: Now is Nov. 10, 2010. I have used this flashlight nearly every day for the last year, on the ORIGINAL batteries without recharging them. I wanted to see what this baby could do! It is not as bright of course, but still bright enough for indoors. Outside I can no longer make out colors across the street in the dark, nor illuminate the farthest street sign 2 blocks away, nor the trees on the next street. But close up is still good and in the house is fine, still lights up my bedroom when shined on the ceiling! About 1/2 or less than brand new. Will now use my Rechargeable AA's, and keep them charged, so will always be bright. Best Flashlight I have ever owned.

I purchased this light for multiple uses, including walking at night with the dog, for campouts and for taking to the beach. Overall the flashlight works as advertised.

There are a number of positives about the Dorcy High Flux:

* The light beam from this flashlight is very bright compared to all the other flashlights I have.

* The beam is fairly narrowly focused and lights up objects over a half mile away.

* Additionally the flashlight is well made and ergonomically designed with the power switch always in the ready position

* The bright yellow case is visible at night should you ever inadvertently set it down

* The wrist strap is a nice to have feature

* The flashlight is surprisingly lightweight for its size

There are some less than positives I've found after using this for a few weeks:

* The light beam is not adjustable at all, either the intensity or the beam focus. There are times I'd like a light to see in the dark without being overwhelmed by the full 180 Lumens. Also there are times when it would be nice to have a broader light source and not have such a focused beam. Other bright light flashlights allow for 1/2 power, blinking, etc. and other lights also allow for adjusting the focus (usually by turning the bezel or lens).

* When walking at night, I have to be careful not to accidentally swing my arms while walking that could result in blinding an on coming vehicle in the road (yes, it's that bright).

* The shape of the flashlight is neither round nor square and cannot easily be set down sitting upright without tipping over.

Overall, the flashlight is a great light to use if you want a very bright light with a narrow beam. But I do not think this is a general use flashlight since the brightness and the focus cannot be adjusted it's almost overkill for general everyday use. I would recommend this for use in certain situations.

UPDATE June 4, 2012. After nearly a full year of use I wanted to provide a few comments on how this flashlight has held up. I use this flashlight on a daily basis often both in the morning and evening, and based on it's performance and durability I've upped my rating from 3 stars to 4 (I would have rated a 4.5 if that was possible). I am very impressed with how this light has held up this past year and the fact that even with daily use+ I have only needed to change the AA batteries twice. I have had no problems at all with performance and have come to appreciate its light weight. I stand by my initial review regarding the pro's and con's to consider. I agree with some other reviewers that you can stand it on end (light up) although it must be on completely level ground and is a little unsteady. It's fairly well balanced in weight distribution and still prone to tip over (wind, small degree of slope, etc.), but is durable enough being designed out plastic, not metal, to effectively absorb an occasional tip over should it occur. For it's price, durability, high lumen rating (brightness) and comfort in using, this is great light to have around the house or in the glove box of your car.

This flashlight is fantastic. It's very bright, with a nice white light (not bluish like some LED flashlights). The spot is very focused and long. I don't know if it's as long as it's rated, but it's very good. The spill light is also very bright and useful. Overall, the flashlight is very light and easy to hold. The switch is easy to depress. You may not be able to hammer in a nail, like a maglite, but the Dorcy is easier to hold.

I am very happy with this light. I've had several of those "1 million candle power" spots over the years, and either the bulb burns out quickly, or the battery stops holding a charge after a short while. I'm tired of the hassles. This one is a keeper.

Really great light, uses regular aa batteries and has a 5 hour run time. You honestly need to buy this thing, my camera couldn't show the true power of the light, its eye searingly bright!

Best designed flashlight I've seen. Squared off sides so it sits on surface without rolling. Switch easy to access and use, positive on and off. The yellow color makes it easy to find when it's dark enough to need a flashlight. I'm amazed at the number of flashlights that are black. The hand grip is comfortable. AA batteries cost the same but have 4 times the capacity of AAA's. And it is BRIGHT.
