Everyone loves these 3 "C" cell powered motion lights when they see them. They provide just the right amount of light spread and brightness. What's also great is the fact that you can customize how you want these lights to operate: light for 20 seconds or five (5) minutes, no problem! Glow at night or no glow, sure =)
I have my few sets of Mr. Beams 542s set to 20 seconds with no glow to preserve battery life.

This nice little light does what it is supposed to do reliably, that is, it illuminates for a short period whenever its sensor detects motion and the ambient light is sufficiently low, e.g., at night. I've got several installed alongside the dark walkway to my front door. The only shortfall in their design is the apparent hyper-sensitivity of the sensor. I find that the lights will come on for the slightest motion nearby, e.g., blades of grass or leaves waving in the breeze. To me, this is more amusing that annoying, although it may shorten the battery life a bit. Absent this, the MB 542 would earn an easy five stars.Best Deals for Mr. Beams MB542 Remote Controlled Battery Powered Motion Sensing
Bought these to light our outdoor path that goes to a separate Basement Apt. EASY to install, the light is bright at night, and our Tenant loves the Remote Control that came with them. The body is hard plastic, which was surprising, but they've held up well, even when I whack them with the garden hose accidentally. Good value for the price.Honest reviews on Mr. Beams MB542 Remote Controlled Battery Powered Motion Sensing
I have Mr. Beams stick anywhere lights. Love them.So based on that and some reviews here thought I'd try these as path lights.
Ended up returning them.
Motion sensor didn't activate until within 2-3 feet.
At a normal walking speed means you're on top of the lights before they turn on.
That was the deal breaker and since all 4 lights worked the same it wasn't a defective unit.
Review of way light works:
There's 2 slide switches located in the battery compartment behind the batteries.
One switch is to set how long the light stays on. Choice is 30 seconds or 5 minutes.
2nd switch is to turn the dim glow feature on/off.
You have to remove the battery compartment cover (2 screws) to reach the switches.
The remote will turn the lights on for the amount of time set by the switch.
If the lights are already on the remote will turn them off until they sense motion again.
Range of the remote was about 35ft.
With the provided stakes bottom of the light is about 7 inches above ground.
At that height it only lights up 8 ft of the path (4 ft on each side of the light).
Lights work better higher up, at least 4 ft. But then they're not really path lights, don't look nice at that height and have to figure a way to mount them.
1 remote didn't work, the second 1 did.
Appearently that happens a bit and they'll send you a new remote.
Didn't check that out since returned everything.
