The base of the actual product is a cheap-looking, matte grey plastic--not what the pictures show. The fiber-optic strands are not as long as they are in the picture (there are actually three lengths: short, medium, and "long"), and even the longest strands do not bow downwards by more than 30-40 degrees, making this thing look more like a lighted brush instead of a semi-spherical ball. Still, not bad for the price.

I bought this for my nieces birthday party and it turned on but after 10 seconds it went off and wouldn't turn back on. I do not recommend!

I always wanted one of these as a kid. I finally got one when I was in college. It's a fun room decoration and looks great if you're having a themed party such as a black light party. I think it would make a great alternative nightlight for kids too.
