Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program . . . because when you think pleasing domestic atmosphere enhancement in the form of simulated flame, you think Energizer. That is, think made in China for Energizer Holdings, Inc.

The packaging shows the product well, and the packaging color scheme complements the candle. I found the package somewhat hard to get into, that is, to find the little dab of perfectly transparent tape to get the thing open. At least it didn't take hydraulic shears to cut through eighteen inches of industrial clear plastic. Colored tape, a colored tab or even a tear-away zipper tab would be a great improvement for consumers to breach the package and reach the precious digital candle inside.

The candle comes in at 3" in diameter, and 6" high.

Note that it takes 4 AA batteries, which are not included. The FCC compliance notice informs that this Class B digital device could interfere with some domestic radio communications, but I suffered no such problems.

The package claims "realistic flicker," and I concur. It totally fooled both the wife and the kids. I discerned no heat whatsoever from this product. The LED bulb is set well below the lip of the candle, so its lighting effect is primarily through diffusion through the wall of the candle. In a completely dark room this product provides minimal additional light (and a nice orangey circle on the ceiling).

Note that this is for indoor use only. This would not be good for an outdoor altar or cemetery vigil.

The product's scent is "honey vanilla," but I'm not quite sure what it is. Of course, the scent does not fill the room as a real candle would, but the scent diffused in a small room relatively quickly, within about two hours. It's a subtle scent, not unpleasant, but distinctly synthetic/industrial, a manufactured scent rather than something truly natural. There does not seem to be any increase in the candle's scent if it is turned on or off.

The product comes with a multi-folded user manual in English, French and Spanish. As small user pamphlets go, this one at least has text that is large enough to be read by a human. There are even a couple of diagrams, one for the installation of the batteries and the other to explain the two switches on the bottom for the on/off/timer and 4-, 6and 8-hour settings.

I tried all three timer settings, and all were accurate, as far as I could tell (no, I didn't time them out). The candle knows when to turn itself on as well. It's got an automatic timer setting which turns the candle on at the same time each day, and delays for your four, six or eight hours. That's a cool feature.

The instructions do specify that it is made from real wax; I read this as an implied warning that it could stain certain surfaces, such as fine wood. I placed a folded sheet of white paper under it, and after a full week detected no trace of any kind of oil, wax, or any other kind of residue/seepage.

Bottom line: If you're going to go with candles, there's nothing like real flame, real action, powerful scent, the real thing. But if you've got pets, kids, or a domestic situation that doesn't lend itself to the real thing, this is a really good substitute, and totally safe. The scent could be better, but other than that this is a good simulation of the real thing.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program In a way, this item was difficult review. Why? It wasn't necessarily what I thought it would be. I thought that while it was a battery operated candle, it would offer more of a scent. While it definitely would provide just the right amount of ambiance to an intimate setting, or a dinner party, or as part of a centerpiece meant to foster conversation, it definitely isn't a candle. Instead, it is more of a "prop" that looks good, but doesn't do all that I would like for it to do. Aesthetically, the candle is beautiful....honey colored with a slightly frosted or distressed look at the bottom. It is powered by 4 AA batteries (which means you don't have to worry about matches or a lighter), and has three easy to set settings (4, 6 and 8 hours). And if you don't want to use the timer, you can flip it on/off as needed. The smokeless flame offers a dim flicker that mimics a flame (constantly/consistently). And finally, the candle has a pleasant honey vanilla scent, BUT it is faint.

I can see some benefits in purchasing this product. If you are having a small, intimate dinner party, it would be a wonderful yet "safe" alternative to a candle. Just think about it, you don't have to worry about the wick burning down and going out. But what I did miss about this "faux candle" is not having the real scent which tends to soothe. Maybe it's me, but when I see a candle, especially one that has a dim flicker, I expect a soothing/calming aroma.

If you are looking for a "pretty" candle that adds ambiance to a room...this is definitely the product for you. I think this product would be perfect again in a centerpiece, in a small bathroom or office, on a bookcase, dresser or anywhere you would normally place a candle. And while I am not sure that it will offer a lot of light during a power outage, there is enough of a flicker to see. Overall, I will give this Energizer Flameless Wax Candle a 3.5 to 4.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Every Thanksgiving, after my guests have stuffed themselves silly, I lead them outside to lay back, have coffee, and digest in the brisk November air. To set the mood, I like to have a few large pillar candles flickering against the starlit sky. The problem is: wind and tots. The wind bends the flame so that the candle drips too quickly and unevenly. And children seem to be fascinated by fire and wax, and tend to stick their hands right in the wrong places.

So, I was delighted to discover the candleless candle! This is a honeycomb color, 6" high and 3" around. It requires 4 AA batteries (not included) and is vanilla scented. You can smell it up close and personal, but it doesn't diffuse the way the faux flame does. The appearance of the flame from the exterior of the candle, from any distance, appears natural, authentic. It is designed to appear partly burned down, about 1/4 way. You can also set a timer to 4, 6, or 8 hours, or just set it to on or off.

For me, a candle enthusiast, there's nothing like the real deal. A quality candle combines aromatherapy with mood enhancement. I also like to watch a flame dance in the dark. However, this is a nice alternative, especially when you are concerned about safety. You could also place it on a bureau under a low ceiling, listen to a little Miles and drift off, with no worry about needing to call the fire department.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Any family that has cats who refused to be trained not to jump on tables, (especially when nobody's looking) knows the hesitation when leaving a candle burning in a room that's unattended. Families with small children who are curious about everything have the same worries. This candle lets you have all the ambiance of a burning candle with none of those concerns. And you don't even have to remember to turn it off since it has a 4, 6 or 8 hour timer as well as a regular on/off switch. The candle is real wax with a mild vanilla scent that isn't overpowering. I would prefer no scent at all, but I'm sure this will dissipate over time. It's 3" x 6" and the little bulb is about a third of the way down into the candle so it lights up the top third when turned on. The flicker is realistic and continuous. It takes 4 AA batteries that are advertised to last about 800 hours. I'll let you know if that's correct after that amount of time passes. This is the only "con" I have about the candle, that it takes 4 batteries. The other candles I have take 2 batteries and they last about 5 months at 5 hours per day.

I have several of these type of candles of different brands and I've used them for a little over a year. I absolutely love the timers. You just turn the candle on at whatever time you wish it to come on each day, and it will stay on for 4, 6 or 8 hours, depending on how you have it set and then turn itself off. The next day it will come on at the same time you turned it on to begin with. As the days get longer in the fall, you can re-set the candles to come on earlier by turning them off and then setting them again. I do this a few times as the seasons change.

It's so nice to come home at night when the house is dark to a room with several lit candles. It looks so warm and inviting. One time when we went out to dinner with friends, we walked into our family room before I turned the lights on and my friend said, "OMG, you left candles burning! You could have stated a fire!" She was surprised to learn the candles were LED's. If you go to bed before these candles turn off and then come into the room again, you're not walking into a dark room. You could use them as a night light that goes off after a few hours. You can also use them in places where you wouldn't use a real candle, like in a closed china cabinet or on a high shelf where you wouldn't want to climb up every time you wanted to light or extinguish a real candle. I've used these in centerpiece arrangements and in hurricane candle holders similar to this: Northern Lights Candles , Venice Collection , Hurricane Glass, 12". You could use them with any candle holder that fits the base or any any type of decorative arrangement. Something like this would be nice for fall: Melrose International 19-Inch Diameter Oak Leaf Wreath with Pumpkins or you could easily make your own. Imagine the burgundy candle or two in different sizes on a silver tray with some pine boughs or holly berries for a Christmas centerpiece. You're limited only by your imagination.

I was happy to see these candles in different colors other than ivory and glad that the light was bright enough with the taupe candle to shine through the color. I will definitely be considering some other colors around the holidays. BTW, if you get into these types of candles you're going to need batteries. I've had great success with these Maxell 723443 LR6 AA Cell 48 Pack Box Battery and the price is very reasonable.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Having used similar products in the past with bad luck I was pleasantly surprised with the Energizer LED Flameless Wax Candle. It has an attractive flicker glow deep inside and gives off a very mild, non-overpowering scent. There are several scents to choose from and I chose honey/vanilla. This is fitting in perfectly at work on my desk. It is strong enough that I can enjoy the scent and flicker, but gentle enough not to annoy my co-workers. There are no dangerous flames or outlets to mess with. My only complaint is that it take 4 AA batteries but according to the description lasts for 800hrs before needing a change. To counter the my complaint about batteries, it has a timer that lets you set it for 4, 6, or 8 hours and it will shut itself off automatically (or flip the other switch to leave it on as long as you want). I plan on purchasing a couple more of these for my bathrooms at home.
