My thoughts when viewing this product: "Well, It's as cheap as the others and they all got crappy reviews... But it says 'Japan,' and they make good electronics so it must be good. Right?"

I almost want to take off one star because there's a MADE IN CHINA sticker on this product. Other than that, the lamp works great. It takes 3 AAA batteries and the whole loading mechanism feels kind of cheap, but you really can't beat it for < $6.

The lamp has five settings, all of which are controlled by pushing the black button on top. The first three will turn on two, four, or eight LEDs, respectively, while the fourth will flash all eight lights on and off repeatedly. Push once more to to turn it off. With all eight lights on, it gets incredibly bright. I bought this for an upcoming camping trip and I'm thinking about buying a spare.

If you're scared off by the poor reviews of other LED headlights that are similarly priced and you feel like spending $15+ on a name brand product, don't do it. Go for this one. I'll update if this suddenly breaks down or anything like that.

***UPDATE***

Second one just came in the mail. Works just as well as the first one. I highly recommend these!

Not bad, 3 power levels and a flashing mode. Pretty decent brightness on high. You can`t miss the flashing mode. For under 6 bucks not bad. A tad bit bulky / heavy compared to what you can buy today but you would be hard pressed to beat it for under 6 bucks........

Honest reviews on Mitaki-Japan 8-Bulb LED Headlamp

For people like me that need instructions (none come with it) to follow for anything 'mechanical' It's obvious that the only place the batteries could go is in the round cylinder shaped part behind the lamp but when you take the cap off it looked like a place to take a disc shape battery. I know stupid .. you have to turn it upside down and a plastic piece slides out to put the 3 AAA's in then you re-insert it. All 3 of the settings give off a bright light and the flasher worked. It will come in very handy during our frequent power loss's during the winter and will also make a good light to read my Kindle in bed. My Sister paid $24 for one during the last storm at one of the big home depot type stores she gets so mad when I tell her the prices I paid for something on Amazon.

The battery compartment is made so poorly. The unit failed when I needed it most. Very disappointing. The battery contacts are 2 tiny springs that fallout when you open the battery compartment.
