I own many high power flashlights but none of them were this small. Taotronics makes a lot of good products so I was interested to see how this flashlight measured up in quality to its bigger brothers and to a Mini Maglite flashlight that we have several of.

This tactical flashlight is made of high quality aircraft aluminum and it is professionally machined. The threads are excellent and the unit uses O-rings to make it water proof and it is rated to IPX-8 which is permanently submersible to 1 meter (38.47 inches). The dark black anodize on the metal is perfectly done and this is a first class piece of hardware.

The flash light uses a very bright and white light producing LED Cree model XM-L T6 with a deep well reflector that is LOP (Light Orange Peel) to produce a very bright and highly focused beam of light. This allows the light to travel further and be brighter for longer distances. The tactical switch allows three modes of operation for High, Medium and Low beams and I discuss the brightness levels below based on the batteries used.

The stainless steel strike bezel it good for self-defense and also when you stand the light on its lens you can see if the flashlight is on and the light will escape through the side cutouts. The torch will also stand on its tail end in the candle light mode but like most other flashlights its base is small and the light is somewhat easily tipped. (See the video)

I did a test comparison of this Taotronics flashlight with a Mini Mag incandescent bulb light which is one of the very common flashlights of this size. The comparison is in the video. I do want to comment that it is difficult to do a comparison of light intensity in a video as the camera never gets the brightness just right but the Taotronics torch was the much brighter flashlight and this test was done using identical fresh batteries. If I had used a 14500 power cell in the Taotronics flashlight then the light would have been almost twice as bright.

The flashlight can be assembled in two modes and I have included a video of the flashlight's features and benefits for your review. The flashlight can use one AA battery, two AA batteries or one model 14500 power cell. Here are the operating specifications for those configurations.

Using one AA battery:

* High beam is 168 lumens for 1 hour

* Medium beam is 46 lumens for 4 hours

* Low beam is 9 lumens for 20 hours

Using two AA batteries:

* High beam is 180 lumens for 2 hours

* Medium beam is 50 lumens for 8 hours

* Low beam is 16 lumens for 45 hours

Using one 14500 power cell:

* High beam is 325 lumens for 1 hours

* Medium beam is 159 lumens for 4 hours

* Low beam is 13 lumens for 50 hours

All of my testing used two AA batteries. In addition to the flashlight the package contains the following items:

* An instruction manual

* A nice lanyard

* A nylon belt holster

* Two replacement O-rings

* A spare rubber tail cap

* A black front striking bezel that is interchangeable with the stainless steel one.

This is an excellent product and I rated it five stars. There are actual two other high quality Taotronics flashlights available and they are professionally made LED torches. Here are the links for you to find the other two flashlights for comparison.

Middle sized 500 lumen torch using one 18650 power cell:

TaoTronics ThorLite TT-TF02 Cree LED Flashlight, waterproof IPX-8, 500 lumens max, stainless steel strike bezel ,six modes

High power 900 lumen torch using two 18650 power cells:

TaoTronics ThorLite TT-TF03 Cree XM-L U2 LED Flashlight, waterproof IPX-8,900 lumens max

I rate this flashlight as a 5 star product and it is ideal for a bedside flashlight, use in your car, hunting or fishing. It is small, light weight and bright.

I recently received this item to review and I must say I had to really think about this one. This has a lot of great features for a light it's water proof, it has three different brightness settings and it is very very bright. I've seen a lot of led flashlights that are bright to look at but you can't shine the light very far. This one is very bright and yes you can see pretty far with it at night. It definitely is also water proof too. I dropped it in my tub for about 2-3 minutes with the light on and yes it works still lol.

I personally don't see a reason on why anyone would want 3 different settings of brightness but if I wanted or really needed a different setting then I would rather have a switch of some sort rather than clicking the light on a number of times to get to the brightness I want. I don't like it because if you want to get to that brightness you like, you have to click through the other 2 brightness modes to get to the one you like. By having a switch you can get to it much faster with one try but that is my personal preference.

The other main thing I really really disliked was the metal bezel it had. The second I pulled it out of the box and touched it, I knew it was sharp. Anyone who runs their finger on the metal will most likely agree unless I got some kind of fluke flashlight. The body doesn't seem to really feel good in my hand either. I feel like it just has too many little bumps and valleys. They could have made it feel a little consistent.

I definitely like the presentation of the item in the box and the brightness of it but the body of it needs a little work especially the metal part of it. It feels like it could be an actual hazard if touched the wrong way.

This is an excellent product for anyone who needs a small and ultra-bright flashlight for hunting, camping, search and rescue or security purposes. I have included a video with this review and I have shown the product features and benefits and compared it to an Ultrafire WF501b Xm-L T6 Mode Cree LED and an Ultrafire WF502b Cree Xm-L T6 LED flashlight.

This Taotronics flashlight is a very high quality product with a 500 lumen rated output and I can tell you that the light output was whiter light and brighter than the two Ultrafire flashlights that I own. I used one 18650 rechargeable battery in my test and evaluation and it was an Orbtronic 3100 mAh rated power cell. Each flashlight in the test used the same battery rating and manufacturer.

The flashlight does not come with a battery and it will use either one 18650 style or two CR123 batteries. I prefer to use 18650 power cells for the recharge-ability and the long life of over 500 possible recharges. The higher the mAh rating the better and I recommend that you always use protected power cells like the Orbtronic brand. Here is a link to the Orbtronic batteries I used and recommend:

TWO PROTECTED 3100mAh 18650-Industrial NCR18650A Panasonic Cell inside

The flashlight arrives with several nice accessories in the kit and they are:

* The flashlight

* A holster

* A lanyard

* 2 spare O-rings

* A replacement Stainless Steel Strike Bezel

* A replacement tail cap

I own several high end LED flashlights and I can tell you that this flashlight is professional quality machining and the black anodizing is perfect. The machining is well done and the threads were lubricated with silicone grease and O-ring sealed. This means the flashlight is rated to IPX-8 submergibility which is continuously submersible in 1 meter of water or 39.37 inches. There is no knurling on the flashlight handle but instead it uses a series of closely spaced concentric rings that I found comfortable and easy to hold. The flashlight with one18650 Orbtronic battery and the lanyard weighed in at 6 7/8 ounces and would make quite a formidable weapon if it needed to be used as such. I really liked the lanyard accessory as it feels more secure in your grip and when you are wearing gloves or your hands are wet as you just have a better grip on the flashlight torch. When weighed with the holster included the set weighed 7 ¾ ounces.

The only weak area of the flashlight design is a stainless steel belt clip that snaps on and I did not care for it as I believe it will easily come off and you could drop the torch. I will not use the belt clip for safety reasons.

The flashlight can stand on its tail end in the candle mode. I would also like to note that the flashlight has battery reverse polarity protection and low voltage protection. The internal mechanics of the flashlight are top quality with robust coil springs.

The flashlight features three lighting levels for brightness and in addition it has three flashing modes for continuous strobe, random strobe and SOS flashing. In the regular user switch setting you have:

* Low beam at 30 lumens for up to 50 hours

* Mid beam or 200 lumens for up to 3.5 hours

* High beam or 500 lumens for 1 hours

The light is pure white light and tightly focused with a L.O.P. (Light Orange Peel) textured deep well reflector. In my testing the light was substantially brighter in all three modes of operation than both of the Ultrafire flashlights that supposedly have Lumen ratings of 1000 lumens for the WF502b and 900 lumens for the WF501b.

1. This is a tactical switch flashlight. That means to select the different modes, you only need to slightly press the tail cap switch. Just individual slight presses will alter the light between the different modes. After selecting the desired mode, then fully press the tail button to set the flashlight into that mode.

2. It also comes with 3 hidden modes (Strobe, SOS, Alarm) in addition to the 3 normal modes (low, medium, high). To turn on/off the hidden mode, First select the low light mode (by "1/2 press" to select low mode, then full press to turn the flashlight on in the low mode), after 3 sec in low light mode, the light will flash once. Then turn off the flashlight immediately. If you "1/2 press" it a few times, you will find that you can now select the 3 hidden flashing modes. They are:

* High speed strobe (Very disorienting)

* Random strobe (Alarm)

* SOS

I did not take any photographs of the flashlights used outside as there is always so much variation with the light frequency and throw beam angle of the lens and LED. I can say though that the Taotronics was brighter at all levels than the Ultrafire units and I think my video shows that. The Taotronics has a highly focused beam and has an extremely bright center and long distance beam throw.

I was very impressed with the flashlight and the quality of the product. I rated it as a 5 star product and I recommend it to you. I hope the video is helpful.

Honest reviews on TaoTronics® ThorLite TT-TF01 Waterproof to IP-X 8 Cree XM-L T6

(#1 REVIEWER)

The TaoTronics Thorlite TT-TF01 is a high quality and very bright 1 or 2 cell flashlight. Flashlights of this style are sometimes referred to as "tactical" flashlights.

This flashlight can operate on either a single AA battery, 2-AA batteries or a single 14500 Li-ion battery. Since Li-ion cells operate at 3.6 or 3.7 volts nominal, you only use 1 otherwise you could overpower and damage the LED.

Speaking of the LED, it is a CREE XM-L T6. CREE has developed LED"s that produce a much more white light than most LED's in the marketplace. You'll notice the difference immediately. It's such a nice bright light. At nighttime when I shine this light in my backyard, the illumination provided at Hight setting is amazing. Using 2-AA's it's rated at 168 lumens. But when you use a single 14500 Li-ion battery the output increases to 325 lumens according to the specs. Since I have no means to measure the lumens I just have to trust the specs. But what I can say is that this is blindingly bright when using the Li-ion battery.

With 2-Ray-o-Vac 2400 mAh NiMH batteries at high power, I ran the flashlight continuously for 2.5 hours. As the batteries were wearing down the flashlight dropped down first to medium power then to lowest power at which point it slowly dimmed to nothing. The flashlight was warm during the time the brightness was at High.

Another notable feature of this flashlight is that is is rated waterproof at the IPX-8 level... the highest degree of waterproofness. That equates to being able to use the light underwater up to for up to 30 minutes at a depth of up to 2 meters.

The flashlight has anti-reverse protection in the event you put the batteries in backwards (which could otherwise fry the electronics). The batteries are also protected against low-voltage so that the batteries don't drain too low.

The aluminum alloy seems to be machined well and the light operates very well. I am very impressed with the brightness of this flashlight.

Great mount for any gun, but I put this on my Crosman Phantom 1000x air rifle. Lightweight and extremely durable this mount holds a tactical flashlight very snug and does it for under 10 bucks! A++ for this product!
