The box screams "install in minutes.. not hours". Well, I'm a very experienced do-it-yourselfer with a garage full of tools and I found this "kit" a time consuming pain to install in hours--not minutes. It consists of many parts, and instructions that give you a headache after you read them 5 times to figure out what to do, poor cheap photography hard to discern, etc. The "kit" comes with many parts. The killer is you have to drill 3 holes in the can body of your existing fixture ( not a whisper about that step on the box) which is way harder than it sounds. You have no room to position a drill in the small can body... and the metal can is hard to drill. You must use a punch to mark a precise point for the hole-but the can moves around every time you try to hammer the punch. My drill "walked" all around the can even after using a punch. I felt like a dentist trying to work a drill and tools in such a small space! Then trying to get all the various parts to line up with an infinite variety of lights fixture is problematic. Bottom linethe product is not well designed and is very hard to install despite marketing claims to the contrary. I'm sure a better design is possible-certainly a good product concept-just poor design/execution.

Installed this today for the first time in about 20-25 mins, where almost half of that was spent looking over the instructions and the overall layout of the converter. There are a number of pieces to the kit, but the (wordy yet descriptive) instructions include many diagrams. I also didn't find the instructions misleading or difficult to understand as I saw in other reviews, however they can appear overwhelming at first since there are many steps with long descriptions.

Take the time to understand what you will be doing before you start.

My can was not listed on the compatibility list but worked no problem. No drilling was required. Once installed, the converter felt quite strong as the brackets and plates are quite thick metal. The hardware included in this set seems to be good quality and strong. When installed properly, I would say this kit was strong enough that your can's connection to the ceiling would break before this kit breaks.

I would certainly buy this again if needed.

Not recommended for first time DIYers, but this really does not require expertise other than using a screwdriver (and possibly a drill depending on your can)

Although the product works as stated (sometimes you need a little ingenuity to get it to fit) quality control in manufacturing leaves a lot to be desired. I purchased several of these and each one was defective in one way or another. For the price of the product I would expect the quality to be much, much better. Would I recommend this product to a friend, well that would depend on his or her skill level. This product is not for the faint of heart unless you have a can that has the screws already in the right place.

The materials in this kit are thick and sturdy. When installed, it makes for a very strong feeling mount which I have no concerns about failing while trying to change a bulb or remove a globe to wash it. The biggest complaint many customers have is installation difficulty. I cannot comment on the usefulness of the instructions I never even unfolded them.

Points of note: If your existing can has the 4-screw or no-screw layout, you WILL have to drill holes in the can, which CAN be a royal PITA. I lucked out and both my cans had the 3-screw arrangement, so I escaped with NO DRILL.

Also, the replacement 'self-tapping can screws' that anchor the main bracket to the can did not work for me, they were too small in diameter. The screws I took out were also too short after the bracket was added. Bottom line expected to provide a few pieces of your own hardware depending on the model of your can.

It does what it says. I agree its a little complicated on the first installation to figure out what and how it needs to be configured. But it seems sturdy and will last.
