This last feature was not entirely clear to me until I had done a fair amount of reading. The key thing to realize is that this switch is both a receiver and a "controller." I have mine set up exclusively as a controller. In other words, I don't want it to switch the overhead light that used to be switched by my traditional switch. Instead, I have wired it up so that it merely works as a controller, and the switched lead is just capped off (so the relay inside my switch isn't doing anything for me). I bought a Smarthome 2456S3 ApplianceLinc INSTEON Plug-In Appliance On/Off Module with this, and I have it plugged into a powerstrip behind my bed. In literally 30 seconds I was able to "link" these two devices so that when I flip my switch, it sends a signal to that appliance module which then toggles its switched receptical on or off (I have my bedside lights plugged into it, so they turn on or off). In short, it's exactly what I wanted and very simple.
So, I'll leave you with two things I have learned: (1) if you buy this with an on/off module, you can use it simply as a remote controller for an on/off module that you can plug in somewhere else in the room, and (2) if you have any questions at all, I found INSTEON's help line to be extremely useful it is on their website under the "contact" link.

In addition to R.Handler's excellent and thorough review, let me add my rational for purchase. I'm replacing decorative incandescents in my home with LED bulbs for their amazing efficiencies, primarily in fixtures such as outdoor wall sconces. The LEDs I have are all non-dimmable and my previous dimmer switches do not work well in that when OFF, the LEDs exhibit a low flickering. I tried this new switch because it is non-dimming, is X10 compatible for my ActiveHomePro controller, and works properly with LEDs.Note that if you are replacing a switch that opens and closes only the hot (usually black) wire, this switch requires connecting the common (usually white) wire to provide current to operate the switch. More options are in the users forums of the Smarthome website.
While not ecstatic about the cost for my use as a simple wall switch, it is the only one I've found that works with all LED bulbs and my X10 controller. And it works very well.

To remotely control this switch, or have this switch control other relays in the house, I recommend the Misterhouse software running on a PC attached to an Insteon Power Line Modem (PLM) (Smarthome 2413S PowerLinc Modem INSTEON Dual-Band Serial Interface, White). Note that it does take some wiki reading to get the Misterhouse software set up, but it's open-source (free)I've been using X10 modules and controllers for many years, but as this was my first Insteon switch, I was initially confused by the sync procedure with the PLM, which mentions holding the Togglelinc's switch for 3 seconds. Dumb me, initially I thought the switch I was supposed to hold was the on/off toggle switch, but in reality the LED below the toggle switch is actually a button and it's the LED that needed to be pressed in for 3 seconds to sync with the PLM. Once I read the instructions more slowly and did that, the rest of the Misterhouse Insteon wiki instructions on the web were sufficient to get Misterhouse configured to use it.
The switch is working fine so far. I like the LED light to find the switch at night, and the ability to swap out my incandescent lights with CFL's since this model is non-dimming. With my past X10 switches, CFL's would buzz when on, or flicker when off (since X10 controllers pass current through the light when in "off" mode).
The price of each ToggleLinc module is about 3X the price of X10 modules, so deducting one star for that.
Honest reviews on Insteon 2466SW ToggleLinc Relay INSTEON Remote Control On/Off
I bought 7 of these to finish upgrade from old X10 switches to Insteon. 6 were perfect, 1 would not talk back to the power-line modem, or did talk but only for some actions. Anyways, seems to be the track-records with most Insteon stuff -about 10% of the time there is something wrong, Amazon is good about returns/refunds, so I'm happyFind helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Insteon 2466SW ToggleLinc Relay INSTEON Remote Control On/Off
I've got a couple of these to start replacing my light switches for use with an ISY controller. When using these switches, you can't quickly flick the switch up or down as you would a normal switch. You will need to purposefully push the switch up or down to activate it.
I'm unsure if it's a limitation of the controller or the switch, but you can't seem to send an on signal to the controller when the light is already on, or off when the light is already off. This has made it challenging to setup an automatic timer configuration with over-ride. Think timer for a utility room light with the ability to over-ride.
These lights have a dim white LED which is on whenever the light switch is turned off. You can dim this light down using the instructions, but it doesn't seem to go off completely. This is actually a nice feature when the switch is controlling an outside or remote light such as a garage light.
