UPDATE 05/17:
wow, the price really dropped on these ordered 3 more sets.
fun/interesting fact: in wintertime, the 2 strings we already had out, would sometimes have 1-2 inches of snow on the solar cell, but light would just travel right through the snow and keep them (mostly) charged. and then of course snow on the lights themselves, but you could see the lights through the snow neat effect.
now that the days are longer, they stay so charged that the lights are on from dark until the sun comes up.
occasionally have the same issue with bad rains one or both strings won't light up, but after a few dry days is back to normal. no spiders yet, either.
the original low-power rechargeable batteries that come with the lights, have been doing pretty well for tv remotes.
UPDATE 11/14:
after a pretty bad rainstorm, both strings would not light up. this was never a problem with the string from a previous order, although that one had some partial shelter for both the lights and the cell.
but after the next dry day, whatever the problem (the cell box seemed completely dry inside, so maybe there was a short in the one/some of the lights themselves, from the water?) it seemed to all get dried out, and now both strings are just fine again.
original review 11/9:
bought 2 of these in the past, I also bought this same brand and model before but from different vendor. the things you need to do are: replace crap battery with a good one e.g. eneloops, or anything with more than a paltry 600maH. make sure battery is charged before putting the lights out there (not necessary with precharged ones e.g., again, eneloops. but the factory battery comes not charged.)
with my earlier set, there were eventually issues with corrosion where the wires split into each individual light, but that wasn't too bad. the biggest problem was that the solar cell container is a PERFECT HOME FOR SPIDERS. those jerks. I love having them live in the ceiling corners of my home and eating all the annoying bugs. but making their home in an electronics thing, the circuits all blow up from the webs and dead victims and whatnot.

I now have 9 sets. Giving as gifts but putting them everywhere. My husband wants more, his brother want them, everyone that sees them wants a set or two.Best Deals for GudCraft® Solar Powered Christmas Lights String Light 100 LED
I was so excited to have bought these to decorate our tree in the front of our house for Christmas. It was the first time we decorated. The lights are beautiful BUT you need to buy a few sets AND you have to make sure you put the solar panel in a VERY WELL SUNLIT place. Most of our sun light is in the back of our house. We were a little disappointed our first time decorating with lights for Christmas but they are very pretty to see up when we do get a great sunny day. :)Honest reviews on GudCraft® Solar Powered Christmas Lights String Light 100 LED
Only 4 out of 5 units functioned on receipt. I was able to repair the 5th.Gudcraft was willing to make it all right, replace the unit or refund the cost. Since I had fixed it, I asked for and Gudcrraft sent me a replacement set of batteris. Company very interested in making everything right for their customers.
