Works great, just as advertised!
You do not have to be technical. This would be a doable job for anyone with basic motor skills and basic common sense. Just make sure the power is off and you'll be fine (Hint: that falls under common sense). Use a metal bore bit (available at any hardware store) on your power drill to make the hole for the photocell, splice the wires following the directions and voila you are done.
My In-Laws have a 3 bulb lamp post that has been burning 24/7/365 since it was installed by another brother-in-law in 2007. HAHA! Wrong move. So, after almost 5 years of seeing this thing lit all the time, it had become a symbol of a half finished project. A beacon of disappointment if you will.
Then the shiny new Son-In-Law (me) comes to the rescue. I come on here, locate and procure this little photocell. I installed it in 10 minutes flat and it works perfectly. I am now responsible for halving their outdoor electrical consumption needs, reducing their carbon footprint, and best of all... every time that light comes on in the evening and goes off in the morning with the Sun they are reminded of my awesomeness.

I have two exterior garage lights controlled by one of these. It goes bad after 3-4 weeks and then you have to tap it increasingly harder for it to turn on the lights. The lights have CFLs but the package says it works with CFLs. Also, this unit gets hot. Hotter as it goes bad. I have given up because even the more expensive units like this use the same parts as these cheap ones, and go bad just as quickly. So I am going to use a wall mount mechanical timer to turn the lights off and on. And it will be JUST as cheap as these units.Best Deals for Woods 59408 Outdoor Hardwire Post Eye Light Control with Photocell
I bought this to replace a similar photocell that controls the outside light in my home. The price was good and it installed quickly, being totally wire-by-wire similar to what was already there. Not much else to say price good, installed easily and it works.Honest reviews on Woods 59408 Outdoor Hardwire Post Eye Light Control with Photocell
Looks to be fairly well constructed, does what it is suppose to. Time will tell the rest of the quality.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Woods 59408 Outdoor Hardwire Post Eye Light Control with Photocell
Just a heads up. The product listing doesn't mention this, but the box and the product sheet from the company do. The back of the package says "Not for use with dimmers or bug zappers"And I can attest to that. I bought this item for use with a bug zapper and was pretty disappointed when the box said not to use it. figured that it wasn't worth sending back and decided to give it a try anyway. It worked for a few minutes and then died.
So I can't comment on the quality of this light control for use with other applications, but it sure won't do what I bought it for.
