Some time back, I purchased one of the inexpensive Gen I monocular night vision imagers. As with all the ones in the $200-300 price range, it's so-so. One thing I did notice is that if I turned on the small IR illuminator, it was much better, but the range was short. Ah ha! The search was on. Found this gem mentioned elsewhere and came straight to Amazon. Had to wait for it since it was new and not shipping.

When I got it, I couldn't wait for dark to try it out. The build quality is typical Streamlight, which is to say very nice. All the fit and finish is just what you expect. Took it and the imager out on a fairly dark night and wow. I can now see out around 250', and it's just like daylight (except for the green). I really didn't expect that level of performance, given the price of every other IR spotlight I've found. It was well worth the money if you're trying to make one of the less expensive imagers work for you.

Just remember, it is IR, so if anyone out there is looking for you with night vision, this thing will lead them right to you. :-)

Item arrived quickly arfter ordering and came with two cr123a batteries. Light is advertised as 130 lumens and shines out to about 75 meters viewing with my 5x night vision scope, in a very tight focused beam. Red glow can easily be seen by the naked eye looking straight at it when tested from 30 meters but is not overly bright. I can't find anything else for the price for what this offers so I consider it a bargain. I will probably pick up a second some time in the future.

I purchased a Pulsar N550 from Amazon for a Texas hog hunt. Based on some of the Pulsar N550 reviews I opted to purchase an additional IR light and the reviews for this Streamlight Illuminator seemed positive so I bought it. I just returned from my trip yesterday and this light worked like a champ. It was powerful (several hundred yards), it had a tight center beam with enough bleed to really light up the scene (I hunted over feeders between 50-100 yards), the light has a small red glow that did not spook any animals, even at close range. I also purchased the mount (sold separately) so I could mount it on my rifle. I plan on getting a separate remote switch as the switch is pretty loud (or at least appeared to be loud) but the hogs never reacted to me turning it on and off. I would highly recommend it to any of my fellow night hunters.

This unit is far brighter and more focused than the $17 IR illuminators. This unit even works well at 150 ft with my old Sony Nightshot video camera. Unit is well made. I am as impressed as the other evaluators, BUT BEWARE OF USING AFTERMARKET BATTERIES. JUST FRIED MY NEW ILLUMINATOR BY USING ULTRAFIRE 3.6 VOLT RECHARGABLE BATTERIES. AS IT TURNS OUT, THE ULTRAFIRE BATTERIES PRODUCE 4.2 VOLTS WHEN FULLY CHARGED.

Had IR for a few days now. WOW! I use it with my cheap G1 NV monocular & my ATN Paladin G1 scope. It pails my built-in IR. Looking across black soil, into black woods, I can 'clearly' see animals at 220 yards! I can see animals out to 300 yards! Incredible tool for the price. I have used the K2 Pro w/G3. But, for nowhere near the cost, this system is outstanding!
