Very reliable. We have been using one of these for several years, in an outdoor fixture, under a porch roof. Our fixture has an automatic shut off when it senses full daylight. The daylight-sensor in our fixture causes any bulb to be less bright. Thus this bulb looks more like 40 watts, rather than 60 watts, in our porch fixture.

If I remember correctly, it has been over 8 years and it is still working! Wow. Can that be correct -8 years? I wonder if we replaced it once, with an identical bulb, and I forget? In any case, I can say these bulbs last AT LEAST 4 years, possibly 8 years. It has been used nightly, from sunset to sunrise, as triggered by a light sensor in our fixture.

A regular, non-yellow lightbulb attracts a lot of insects. This yellow bulb attracts fewer insects, but there are always a few spider webs nearby, so I assume there are some insects; the spiders must be eating something.

If I remember correctly, this compact fluorescent bulb is NOT compatible with dimmer switches.

Update postscript, September 2011: The porch light is still working! Incredible! I don't know if the bulbs will last this long for others. Our porch light does not get switched off then back on frequently; perhaps that has helped the longevity.

These lights have worked very well. I live at 10,000 ft in the mountains and even the cold doesn't bother them.

This buglight I bought in Walmart for about $14.00, making Amazon a better deal. I had promised myself I wouldn't buy any GE products, but alas, my bright yellow buglight had burned out,and this was all my local Walmart had available. I was sold on the long term investment of the light. Yellow was one option of color. The bulb is not frosted any color, but rather the guard is colored. The guard is composed of that same wonderful space age polymer used to manufacture "Big Gulp" containers.

I noticed my yellow cover was not very yellow. It doesn't shine with that deep yellow glow of my previous buglight. I tested it out for bugs. It worked great on nights when the temperature was 43 degrees. But as the nights grew warmer, moths swarmed the light. Yes, my buglight could be seen by moths miles away who were eager to hitch a ride on any windshield just to get to it.

Now I am stuck with a buglight that attracts bugs, most likely for the rest of my life. The main function I was interested in, didn't work. Thanks GE. It may be another 20 years before I buy one of your products again.

Oh yes, the bulb contains Mercury too. From the web site clean up:

Seriously, this light is a joke. Bugs swarm to it. The yellow color is just too light. Look for another brand with a dark yellow bulb, not a light yellow casing like this one. I'm replacing mine after two weeks of it actually encouraging bugs to enter my house.
