My refrigerator would cycle on whenever the door was opened due to the incandescent bulb heating the thermal sensor. If it cycled on too soon after turning off, the compressor sometimes wouldn't start properly. I tried a fluorescent bulb, but the cold made it very dim. So I put in this LED bulb. The bulb fit fine and works fine in the cold. The bulb runs cool and solved the refrigerator's cycling problem.

Really like this bulb, produces good amount of light for wattage. Just be aware that because it's made up of a bunch of individual 'standard' LED's inside the bulb, they all point 'upwards' so this bulb does produce most of it's light whichever way the bulb is pointing, so I wouldn't recommend it in something like an uncovered bed-side lamp, as you just end up with a lot of light and a pattern on the ceiling. As the name suggests perfect for 'accent' light use.

I've spent way too much time looking at LED specs. Suffice it to say, if you need an appliance bulb, you can stop here. This one is the brightest I've found (at 150 lumen), has the best lumen to wattage ratio, good dispersion, decent color temperature, and isn't overpriced. I've installed it in my vent hood to illuminate the stove and kitchen at night when I don't want the big light on. It's definitely dimmer than the mini cfl bulbs it replaced, but it works well enough with two. These are 25 watt replacement, not 60 watt as another reviewer stated.

MARCH 2013 UPDATE:

SUMMARY: These bulbs have a very pleasant color (not too yellow), turn on instantly, are barely warm to the touch even after hours of use, use virtually no electricity, last virtually forever and are great for fill lighting; great for adding light when watching TV or reading a computer screen but not recommended for reading printed material.

I originally bought 2 of these bulbs in a local supermarket and was quite happy with them as fill lights. I bought and received 8 more through Amazon when the supermarket price went up. I'm guessing that the color is about 4000K even though the stated color is 3000K. 4000K is less yellow. I bought, and returned, 5000K bulbs because I couldn't get used to the bright white light.

All of my downstairs lighting consists of LEDs and a few CFLs where I need greater illumination. I live in the deep South and the heat from bulbs puts too much strain (and expense) on the air conditioning. In the summer, I do almost all of my cooking outdoors on the deck or porch.

---end update ----

I needed a light in a room that needed just a bit of illumination. All of my CFLs were way too bright.

I came across this bulb, in of all places, in my local food supermarket. Ten dollars was a bit pricey but I really wanted this 2 watt bulb.

I replaced the CFL with this bulb in an upright lamp. The bulb gives off a nice warm light and turns on instantly; no waiting 30 seconds to reach full illumination like a CFL.

At a mere 2 watts, the bulb illuminates the room quite nicely.

After leaving the light on for a few hours, I touched the bulb with my fingers. Barely warm.

The nice thing about these 2 watt bulbs is that I can use them in my UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) and they'd run for days, maybe weeks, during a power outage. No messing around with flashlights or candles (dangerous!).

I was surprised to find these bulbs on Amazon to be a bit more expensive than the supermarket.

Been buying these quite a bit lately, since they save so drastically on power. Replaced three 40w reveal appliance bulbs in my fridge/freezer with these they are slightly dimmer, but acceptable and 20x less juice as well as almost no heat (great for fridge). The lamp post in my front yard is tied to a photo cell so it stays on average of 12 hours a night, so the savings pay for these bulbs pretty quick. Also trying these in a few sealed ceiling fixtures where the LPrize bulbs are not supposed to go (due to heat issues).

I confirmed with a multimeter, and multiplying the current these draw with the power factor of 0.218, they indeed consume just 2 watts.

I buy these at our local Menards typically for close to six usd. For whatever reason, those that I've bought there are clearly labelled as putting out 170 lumens, not 150 as is shown here. Perhaps Feit has been able to eek out more lumens per watt recently?
