Reviews of Reading Magnifying Magnifier Lamp Floor Light Flexible Gooseneck
A good, well-made light perfect for reading. It has one serious but easily fixed drawback: The upright tubing that seats the goose-neck is too tall, making it awkward to impossible to use for reading in a typical easy chair. I saw a review elsewhere that mentioned this problem but ordered it anyway, figuring that I could modify it. The review I read suggested cutting 12" off the top of the upright tubing. I cut off 4" and then cut off another 2" and found that the upright tubing is just right at 27". I cut the tubing from the bottom rather than from the top as the reviewer suggested because the top tubing thickness is doubled, to reinforce for stress caused by adjusting the gooseneck. If you remove tubing from the top, you will have to buy a drill and tap to seat the knob that locks the gooseneck to the upright tubing. As you will then be tapping a single thickness of tubing, I suspect that unless you (or grandchildren) are careful, eventually the threaded hole will strip out. I cut 6" of tubing from the bottom, which required drilling 4 holes of 3 different sizes, none of which needed to be tapped. You will need a hacksaw, a drill and drill bits and a new polarized plug (the black wire inside the cord is the 'hot' lead and should be connected to the small blade of the polarized plug).
