OK, number one: Didn't work. I thought, maybe they left the batteries out?? I checked the packaging, it doesn't SAY batteries are included, though the Amazon website does, so I went out & got some. ($5 EACH at Radio shack, and the light needs 4 of them--kind of pricy in my opinion). Number two--how to put them in? The packaging says, "remove the LED/Battery tray assembly." OK, what's that?? Where is it? Remove it HOW? The literature doesn't tell you. There's nothing self-evident in the product's design that helps, either. You won't find a helpful diagram in the literature that came with the light, or on the company website, or anyplace else on the internet; believe me, I looked! After more fiddling, peering into the bulb end, and thinking furiously, I finally discover that you need to push the rubber ON switch REAL HARD, and then the innards will slide out. And there, lo and behold, are 4 batteries! Problem is, they're useless.

So at this point, out many wasted dollars (for batteries I didn't need) and much more wasted time and frustration than I ever bargained for, fruitless internet searches etc. for a simple diagram or clear instructions on how to put batteries in it, and what on earth a "battery tray assembly" might be, I have a little light that won't work; I don't know why. (bad batteries? bad electrical connection? who knows?)

Now I get to package the thing up, send it back (oh good, a trip to the Post Office! always a treat), and wait to see if what they send back actually works (IF they send anything back). Considering all the time wasted and attendant aggravation, the darn thing better light my way, play me a tune, get me a beer and bring me my slippers after all this. If that sounds like a "fun time" to you, then this is the light for you!

I think I know why this flashlight is sometimes selling for such a discount (compare the price with the Pelican version). When mine arrived, it barely illuminated. I figured the batteries were almost dead. Once I opened the unit, they had what looked like a bit of powdery white corrosion on them (similar to old alkaline batteries). I was able to wipe them completely clean with a tissue, reinserted them, and wow! Finally the brilliant little flashlight I had hoped for. In fact, for such a tiny flashlight it's a lot brighter than I need. I was happy to learn that the beam isn't overly concentrated/focused in the middle as I thought it might be by the description.

As another review points out, the instructions don't really explain how to replace the batteries. You must unscrew the lens end, and then push the rubber on/off button hard enough to make the inner assembly pop out. From there it's easy. I'll report back later about battery life but the advertised 130 hours seems like an enormous stretch. The instructions call for LR44 batteries this battery type goes by other names such as L1154. You can do a wikipedia search for 'LR44' to see the other names.

This flashlight is solidly built, is about the size of an adult's thumb, and is a nice orange color. It comes with a lanyard which seems to be designed to break free if under enough tension, as a safety feature. Also included are green and red lenses which can replace the clear one that is pre-installed. Replacing the lenses is a bit difficult because the reflector element must be removed first, and it's held tightly in place and needs coaxing to pull out. The red lens makes for a superb little astronomy flashlight, or for any other time you want to preserve your night vision.

I have no idea why this product only has 3 stars. This is the best micro flashlight I've found plus it's waterproof plus it comes with 3 different lenses. Come on people if you expect a flashlight smaller than your pinky finger to be a million candlepower you're going to be disappointed. But if you want a flashlight you can keep in your pocket no matter what... This is your flashlight.

Honest reviews on Klein X5 LED Mini-Pocket Flashlight

It is not bad. It is pretty light actually.

But since I have ordered it together with the one called "Streamlight 73003 Nano Light Miniature Keychain LED Flashlight, Pink", I compare them, obviously. The other one little pink flashlight is much brighter, stronger directed, smaller (can be a key holder small enough) and also cheaper at least 2 times!

So the product listed on this page is not bad itself but there is something so much better on the market, that I just can not give it 5 stars because I have them both.

The design is fancy ) which is good.
