I've used this guy for over a decade, it is a mainstay in my pack. The cone works great. There's a hole in the tip, which creates a bright point of light in the center of the diffused light. This is perfect for focused work inside of a tent.Best Princeton Tec Sport Flare Underwater Light Deals

I spent alot of time researching this one people. Backpacker magazine, EMS, Princeton Tec website etc. While you may find a tent lantern that is brighter, the real bonus here is light versus battery use and weight. Most lanterns appropriate to use in a tent use bigger or more battery power. I wanted something that I could hang at the center of my tent and just leave it and not worry about killing the batteries during several days of extensive use. I have another flashlight and lantern for roaming around the campsite at night. This light produces a diffuse light pattern to brighten an area instead of a directed beam. When hanging from the center of the tent from the provided lanyard, it directs the diffuse light downward instead of outward as is the case with most lanterns. I only buy Princeton Tec flashlights. They are completely submersibe and work underwater. Can you say that about your other flashlights and lanterns? If I am camping or am in an emergency situation I want foolproof. One neat feature that kids will love...when you put out the light, the plastic cover glows in the dark for quite awhile. Attach a whistle to the lanyard provided, and I think this would be a great inexpensive gift for a kid that could save their life especially since it can be used as an emergency signalling device.
