I had purchased this dimmer originally at my local Lowes. I was very impressed by how well it was made and the fact that the plugin end was the same type used on extension cords (3 receptacles 2 on one side and one on the other). I used this dimmer to install under cabinet lighting a few years ago.
I recently remodeled the kitchen and needed a second dimmer for a separate set of under counter lights. I tried a cheaper dimmer at the local Lowes (they'd quit carrying this one) it was totally unusable the light levels didn't work properly the first level just hummed with no light the second level was barely enough to see the bulb glow when directly looking at it and the 3rd was full blast. Once it was turned off it still hummed (still using electricity).
Luckily I found the exact same dimmer here on amazon as I had before. This dimmer works flawlessly on ALL levels, and does not hum when OFF (not using any electricity). I did learn from the last time that as stated in other reviews the double sided tape provided is not sufficient to hold the touch pad for long. I used some clear silicone adhesive caulk that I had laying nearby to attach mine.
I actually bought an extra dimmer to go in the bedroom since my wife's lamp is high on a chest of drawers and required getting almost out of bed to turn off. Now all she has to do is tap the pad while lying down to turn off the light and now we get the added bonus of not having a lamp on full blast while she is reading and I'm trying to sleep!

This dimmer is JUST what's needed for the Good Earth 12VDC Halogen lighting systems. I'd tried using a common wall dimmer with little success -the dimmed lights would flicker. Using this dimmer the light level is consistant on each of the FOUR steps! I have another one of these from years past (in my kitchen's lighting) which only has a THREE-stage control.Installation is a breeze... run the wire where you want and use a dab of hot glue to secure the touch 'puck' to the cabinet's underside. Using the double-sticky tape just doesn't cut it over time.
