This is one of the few BR40 type LED bulbs available and it works very well. It does take nearly two seconds to light after it is powered. So I wouldn't recommend it for a place where you need instant light. However when it comes on, it has full brightness (unlike CFL bulbs). Even though it is listed as "warm white", it is closer a very bright white more comparable to a halogen bulb than a daylight florescent or standard tungsten incandescent.

This light has a color temperature that reminds me of the arc lights in warehouses in spite of being called "warm white". It is OK when on full power, although noticeably cooler than other lights, if mixed with 90Watt conventional BR40 tungsten lights it is a little less bright, but cooler, and overall, as long as the color variation is acceptable, is a very pleasing light. It is highly "frosted" and uniform. My wife is happy to have it in a room with two BR40 lights (one conventional) and 3 BR30 (conventional) lights, since it is in a fitting over an area where a bit cooler light actually looks good. However, although it is "dimmable", it dims completely differently from tungsten or halogen lights...it dims very little over most of the range of our dimmers...about the time the conentional tungsten lights are glowing like warm candles, it is just starting to dim, and when the tungesten lights are essentially black and "out", it is dimmed to maybe 10% of its apparent orignal brightness...but it is still about the same color. Maybe exactly the same color. Then the effect is really that of the watery light from a warehouse arc lamp.

Conclusion: This is the best LED light I have personally seen, and unlike most of them, it is actually bright enough to be of some use. Being dimmable is nice, but all the lights on the dimmer circuit would have to be this type, and they would (imho) need to be in a very contemporary setting where such a "cool" light is acceptable or attractive. If in a traditional setting, the light is OK on full brightness as long as you don't mind it being somewhat cooler than conventioal warm tungsten lights. If you want natural 'daylight', these are probably fairly close.

These are NOT outright BLUE like the early LED lights... they are the first ones I've bought that I'm OK with. However, at $50 a pop I won't be running out to buy a bunch of them...will just use in special locations. Also, they take a second or two to turn on, like lots of CFLs, which I find irritating unless they're in a room with other types of lights so you can see something when you first hit the switch.

However, all in all, they're the first LED lights I've seen that I don't regret buying. I'm glad to see LED moving into the zone where it's getting useful.

Going strong after many months of use, but who knows when I'll be able to comment on the 40,000 hour lifespan. I'm gunning for it though.

The light is pretty white, but you get used to it, and it takes maybe a half second to turn on but you get used to that as well. Those were the only down sides, and it throws a lot of light very evenly.
