Broan QS130BL

Pros: Quiet fan on setting one, Light like the surface of the sun, Standard setup, Easy install.

Cons: low CFM on setting one of fan, $7 light bulbs

The best thing about the Broan and most likely the reason you are looking at it is how quiet it is. At 1.5 Sones it is practically a whisper with the fan on. Let me tell you it's a blessing and worth the money for that fact alone.

My wife (who does most the cooking, love you) would never turn on our old range hood. I would come into the house to find a haze of smoke and grease hanging in the air and her working in the kitchen. I would turn on our old hood, 5.5 sones and you could not yell at each other to have a conversation.

What I needed was replacement that was quiet (so the wife would use it) gave some light and would fit in the standard opening that was under $150. With the money I saved I could buy cleaners to wash the grease off the walls in the kitchen. HA HA

The Broan QS130BL does this in stars. You will not find a quieter, standard setup, range hood for under $150. Easy to operate, easy to clean, easy to install, super quite and tons of light, I am so happy with it.

Beautiful lighting, exceptional finish.

Flimsy, light-weight (thin) metal, does not hold a straight line at the top unless mounted with extra screws (not provided). Lots of interior sharp edges to cut your hands.

Motor is very quiet, even at the top setting.

Does not effectively draw from front elements/burners at the slow speed, the fan is mounted too close to the rear to be effective at this speed. Needs thoughtful re-design, in a realistic setting (like in a kitchen?).

This range hood definately has a different look to it, one that has my husband confused as to whether he likes or dislikes it. I love it. The hood brings the light up a bit higher than traditional hoods. It has two fan settings and a low/high light settings, along with two lights. We used halogen flood lights and on the high setting it really lights up the entire range and surrounding counter space. Unlike traditional hoods, it has a clean and finished look underneath.

Honest reviews on Broan QS130SS Allure Range Hood, Stainless Steel, 30-inch

I purchased this product because I wanted to match my stainless steel appliances. I notice this hood was larger than my 1980's era hood that I inherited from the previous owner of my home. So, it was time for an update. The installation was not too hard for a DIY type person, such as myself. I purchased the hood in a chain home improvement store and didn't look for the reviews on Amazon like I normally do to see how others view the quality of a product. I was shocked to learn that Amazon sells the hood that I purchased for $100 less than I purchased it at the store. Wow! That is a big difference. If my cheapness weren't out-weighed by my laziness, I'd take the hood back for a refund and purchase it again on Amazon. Oh well, lesson learned.

Delivery was as promised. Overall finish was very good and the unit is decently quiet.

The design issue is with the unit shape and location of lights in that they are not shielded out of direct line of vision to the bulb. Light on the stove top is good but if the bonehead designer thinks that staring at a halogen bulb is stylish, they need more schooling in reality. The glare is very obnoxious even at my height of 5'10" so I can only imagine how upset a shorter person would be with it. I'll build my own glare shields from stainless steel to remedy this oversight on the part of their designers but very few people have the capability of doing this modification.

The build quality issue was with installation of the rivets in the back holding the leaf springs that retain the filters. The rivets were improperly installed, protruding about 3/16" from the back of the unit which prevented mounting flush to the wall. More places for crud to accumulate aren't things I'll leave unaddressed in a new kitchen. I drilled out the offending rivets and installed new, enabling a tight fit to the wall and an easy seam to seal.
