I bought a set of these to try out as window lights. I have these hanging in large south facing windows where they should receive as much light as they would outside. It is winter, but even on days where they get full sun all day, they do not get enough charge to light up. The batteries they came with were pretty cheap, so I swapped them out with NiMH Energizer batteries. There was no improvement in performance. The solar charging performance could probably be improved if all of the solar cells were clustered on one side of the light shade. The lights have four small solar cells spaced evenly around the shade. The cells at the back of the shade are probably not going to do much no matter where you place the light.
The build quality is also cheaper than I expected from the specifications. The description states "Cast aluminum construction". The only aluminum parts are the post and the guard around the lens. The rest of the body, including the ring at the top of the light is plastic. As someone else noted, the finish is not black as stated, but gray.
