I bought my IKEA KVART wall spotlight about 6 years ago and its still running strong, making it through 4 different apartment moves. It is very simple yet well designed and its perfect as a reading night above your bed and as a low-level whole room illumination light. I definitely recommend this light for its utility and durability, and I'll attempt to outline all the aspects below. I'm using it with a 7W fluorescent bulb that I also purchased from IKEA.

Pros:

Displays light in a diffused spotlight, its not a narrow band of light nor too broad whatever you're pointing it at will be well illuminated and there aren't any harsh edges where the illumination suddenly cuts off

The neck of the lamp moves any angle you want, and it stays put

Simple switch that has lasted 6 years so far

Long cord (2.5 meters or 8 feet) to get to your outlet

Mounts to walls, bedframes, or alternatively you can clamp it on if you don't want to use screws

Inexpensive but still looks high quality

Cons:

No switch on base, located roughly a foot away on the cord can be somewhat annoying to reach depending on mounting method

cord exits the end of the neck, rather than through the neck and behind the mount, which would be a bit more 'clean' of a look

All in all, I believe this is a great light and highly recommend it if you're in the market. If you use the fluorescent 7W bulb (or perhaps an LED, not sure if they're available/affordable in this fixture) you can also see significant electricity savings. I'm still on my original bulb, so that's a testament to its durability!

you know that section where Amazon suggests that you order the lamp & the light bulbs? Do not click on it. The light bulbs are the incorrect size. Boy do I feel like an idiot for getting sucked in. I now have to find the right light for it, send the other ones back which the shipping will prolly cost as much as the lights. I really hate crap like that! I expect better from Amazon.

The lamp is fine ( I'm an ikea fan, but live way far from a store & they don't ship lights).

The lamp I admit is of very good quality, the problem with this purchase was the light bulbs! I had to buy four light bulbs to get any sort of economies by the purchase and even so each bulb cost me approximately $10.00. I should have researched this a bit better. I felt confident enough that I would be able to buy the bulbs cheaper at my local Wal-Mart but these bulbs are rare so I could not and had to special purchase them. If I had known of the high price of these bulbs as a certainty I probably would not have bought the lamp and bought instead a lamp that uses normal light bulbs at a buck a pop!

Follow-up:

I'm writing this a few weeks after the above review. After I have received the light bulbs for it. Now I can understand why the seller does not provide alight bulb with this lamp. For if they had done so they would have had to mark up the price of the lamp by nearly $10.00 for a tiny, overpriced, low wattage farce of a reading spotlight.

These bulbs'are by no means readable by and are at best no more than focusable soft light accent bulbs way too overpriced! The only reason I am not returning everything for being misled is that I'm using the lamp not for reading but only to shed light on my computer keyboard at night and it barely works adequately well for that purpose. Luckily for them I am just too lazy to go through the entire process of returning this consumer fraudulent mess!Caveat Emptor!

Honest reviews on KVART Wall/Clamp Spotlight Silver

The product description as of today (Sept. 13, 2013) is incorrect. It requires E17 bulbs NOT E12 (as is listed in the product description). Otherwise, the lamps look OK. The price is right. They were "Made in China." I bought adapters locally and tried 9 W bulbs in them. Result: One lamp's switch won't turn off. The light bulb stays on. The other lamp sparked and send a small puff of smoke out then refused to work. 9 Watt bulbs are super low wattage. I didn't overload these lamps. I wanted something small and cool for my kids to read in their beds. I didn't want halogen, because they are so hot it could burn or cause a fire. These lamps looked perfect. Small, wall mounted, and flexible allowing them to focus the small lights on their books. Another thing to note: the flexible 'hose' or whatever that is called doesn't hold position very well. It wants to straighten out and sag down from gravity. It holds a little don't get me wrong, but it is less than ideal for sure. I am returning these.

This is the second and last ikea lamp I buy from amazon. They both had the wrong size light bulb recommended. This lamp takes the E17 bulb, not the E12. No more ikea for me, and shame on amazon for not be informed on this error.
