I have one of these lights and here is my humble pov. I will start with the caveat that I was given the starter system as a gift.
These lights are very cool and make it very easy to add music throughout your house without any major infrastructure upgrades.
The sound quality is surprisingly good for a speaker it's size. The light quality and intensity is mediocre at best. The LED color temp is too cool for me but this is personal preference.
Now that the good is out of the way lets discuss the problems. Which are significant.
The interference with other devices on the 2.4 gigahertz channel is a real problem. I can't seem to isolate the issue and interference is rendering the system useless. I've adjusted all the wireless items in my house to no avail. I have also adjusted the lights themselves. I am running an airport extreme base station in the house and it pretty much rendered this device useless. This is a big problem. The people who are the market for these lights especially at this price are going to have some serious wireless networks.
And that brings me to my other issue. The price. Someone got bonked on the head when they decided these things were worth 200 bucks a light. They are at least twice as expensive as I am willing to pay for them. 300 for the starter system is ubsurd. They are cool, but not 300 dollar cool. Wait a while, I suspect that these lights will drop in price considerably over the next few months. I have seen the demo in a retail store in my area and the lights garner a lot of interest until folks see the price, then they are on their way.
Anyway, my opinion reiterated in brief, good item, good sound quality, interference issues which NEED to be fixed, outrageously high price point.

I purchased 4 of these lights to help me have some music on the other side of my house where I don't have any speakers setup with my home system. At first, they didn't work until the instructions said 1 key phrase: Line Of Sight with the transmitter. You need at least 1 of the lights to have direct view line of sight with the transmitter. Once I was able to do that, it worked great.However not everything is so gravy. Since it works wirelessly on 2.4ghz and so does just about every new high tech toy like laptop, tablets, cell phone, etc. This causes major problems, especially with the lights furtherest away from the transmitter. Too much 'wireless traffic' caused the lights furthest away to basically stop working after a few minutes; during a party forget it! Everyone with cell phones updating status on FB and uploading pictures etc. really hurts the music lights system. I had real high hopes for these lights, but must find a new solution for the wireless traffic problem.
So if you don't use or have any wireless routers, phones, etc. then this item should be great for you. If you are techy savy and have wireless toys galore, this product may not be worth it as you will run into wireless interference problems.
Since it worked, but major wireless problems, I give 3 stars rating. Hope this review helps you out.

Bought these speakers/lights to try them out for a den and was very happy how they turned out. Setup is easy since you just have to screw these into a lite socket and pairing with the transmitter is just turning the knob to the same channel. I bought the AUX transmitter so it can connect to your laptop or phone's headphone jack. Everything works perfect and sounds good. The sound is perfect for my room and LED light works great too. first off, i have to say that i absolutely love the idea of this product. reducing consumption and increasing functionality is what every product manufacturer should strive for. and this product itself is, for lack of a better word, functional to the extent that it does exactly what it's advertised to do. having said that, i feel as though the musiclite has not been "built out" to the extent that such an ambitious product should have been.everything works. the led light is warm enough, even at its brightest level (which is about bright enough for recessed lighting) and floods better than i expected. the audio is lacking. but you have to remember you're pushing audio over a heavily-burdened wireless frequency range, to a receiver that is, by its nature, installed mostly behind a wall / ceiling. speaking of the installation, you don't have a true grounded electrical connection. the musiclite is accepted by a "dumb" light socket (+/without ground), which can cause 50/60hz interference as well (not that the musiclite reproduces those frequencies, but worth noting). then, you're reproducing that weak audio stream with a 2.75 inch "full range" speaker. the audio loses its depth completely, and comes out sounding more like an AM radio station than a digital stream. the remote is adequate, but small enough to lose easily. and the transmitter... the transmitter i purchased is the universal / toslink adapter, which really is universal in that it accepts audio from anything with an analog or toslink output. however, it requires being plugged into the wall for power, which eliminates mobility entirely (with the right adapter though, you can run it off an external battery pack). the range is about what you would expect with the transmitter; i can be about 40' away over line-of-sight, and maybe 20' through a wall or two.
what would really make this thing awesome? a couple improvements in connectivity, for starters. if you could additionally connect the musiclite over wifi and stream to it directly from a pc, mobile device, or media center, that would be a great improvement. while you're at it, give it dual-band access (5ghz). give it a mobile app, or even better still, build into it basic mobile OS control via Bluetooth. another good improvement would be tweaks to the audio setup for better sound reproduction. perhaps also the availability of a musiclites external subwoofer that connects using the same tech, only it plugs into a wall and doesn't include a light.
the unit construction is sufficient. it's heavy and solid, and has the feel of a durable piece of hardware (unlike most things you buy anymore that are all plastic and lightweight). zone control and stereo functionality are handy, but only if you plan on buying several of these to fill your home. in general, i'm happy with them at the price i got mine for ($50 each on ebay), but full retail or even $75+ is too much for this device with limited functionality. if you like having unique gadgets and don't mind sub-par sound quality, try out a couple of these. maybe sometime in the future, there will be some fun hacks available for them, such as IP intercom, haunted house prop, or audio-controlled dj lighting...

I bought four of these for the kitchen computer so we could listen to music while we cook. They sound surprisingly well although they lack bass, which is to be expected.Finding light fixtures for these lights were a real pain, but eventually I installed Juno track lighting and got these fixtures to put the MusicLites in. Juno Lighting R502B-WH Trac-Lites Round Back Cylinder Line Voltage PAR30 Lamp Holder, White They fit great in these fixtures, though you may have to take out the metal clips holding in the inner ring.
Once the speakers were installed in the fixtures and positioned in the room the sound quality improved further, and the bass was more defined. They are loud enough to be heard over the sound of washing dishes or even the dish washer. You can even set each speaker to be, Left, Right, or Left/Right channel. Setting the sound channel helped improve the sound quality.
I noticed alot of people say they have interference problems, but I have none. I have a 2.4Ghz Wifi network with a Asus N16 router running DD-WRT and I also run a Z-wave network, and have 25 or so Z-wave devices, and maybe 20 Wifi devices on 2.4 Ghz. The only time I ever had any interference is when my cell phone was near the MusicLight transmitter with Bluetooth turned on. If your router has Bluetooth co-existance mode, you may want to try turning that on and seeing if it resolves your problem, as it worked for me. The Microwave oven tends to interrupt my 2.4 Ghz Wifi signal, but never the MusicLites.
The light portion of the speaker can be very bright and blinding if you turn it up all the way with the controller. They are actually the brightest lights in my kitchen. If you wire the lights up to a switch, they will turn on automatically when the circuit is energized. This can be a downside if you only want to use the lights as speakers.
The Wifi range is pretty good, I was able to put the MusicLite anywhere in my house, from the transmitter without any issue. Of course, every house is different so you may get difference results. But if you plan to have the transmitter in the same room, or simply the next room over you should have no problem. Perhaps people who are having interference are sending the signal from too far away.
Overall these lights are awesome, and the speakers are pretty good for being all in one, and Wifi. They make being in the kitchen more enjoyable and a great gift for anyone who has track lighting, or large recessed kitchen lighting fixtures.
