I bought 4 of these to light dark areas in the back of my house. They worked so good that I bought 6 more for the sides and front of the house. I have had no problem with any of the lights. Set the two switches inside for brightness and timer. I use bright and the short duration time. The light will stay on if someone is moving around, even on the short time setting. The remote works well too and you can set all the lights to use one remote. I mounted some on the house and put some on the provided stake in the ground. A great light for the money. The coverage and brightness is good but don't compare it to a 300 Watt floodlight. It is more suited to lighting targeted areas rather than lighting your entire backyard to play baseball. Also, make sure you test the light in dark conditions. The light will not operate unless it is in really dark conditions.

The amount of on time for this unit should be changed. Currently it is 20 seconds or 5 minutes. 5 minutes is to long 30 seconds a bit on the short side. Those are the only two options. The light is bright enough, and all other features are fine. It was exposed to many rain storms, and no issue with any water inside.

I think it is great, I now can see my dog out in the backyard in one of the areas where my electric motion lights don't work. I think I'll need to buy 1 or 2 more. Don't know how long the batteries will last especially during Wisconsin winters, but I will find out in the future.

Honest reviews on Mr. Beams MB371 Remote Controlled Battery-Powered Motion-Sensing

After reading the very positive reviews, I bought Mr. Beams. I really needed a battery operated motion sensing security light and thought this would be perfect. The problem was nothing worked as advertised and the unit I received was obviously defective. I hate to return anything; I'm one of those people that want the product to work right out of the box with no issues. Although Amazon's return policy is pretty easy, you do have to make a trip to the post office. If you take a chance on Mr. Beams, I recommend you save the packaging.

Update: After doing some extensive research, I found myself being drawn back to this light because it really fit my needs. I have an area behind my house that very much needs a motion/light sensor and unfortunately there's no wiring for lighting. I either solve it with a battery operated solution or pay the expense of wiring a light fixture there. One of the things I learned during my research was the size of the batteries that operates the light generally equates to the amount of lighting it puts out. This particular security light takes three "D" cell batteries while most of the others in its class generally take double A's. Well, I decided to try it again hoping I wouldn't get stung twice, but this time I bought the Dorcy instead. Mr. Beams and Dorcy are identical with some very minor exceptions. I held my breath when it arrived and I'm pleased to announce that it works as advertised. The light is pretty powerful after all and the pictures they show on the packaging aren't exaggerations. The sensor picked my motion up at a pretty good distance and I was very happy about that. Although very much alike, make sure you read the differences between the Dorcy and Mr. Beams; the Dorcy has no options for you to select, while Mr. Beams does. One of the options I miss is the Dorcy doesn't let you select the amount of time it stays on after sensing motion. It's hardwired to turn off at about 1 minute (it says 30 seconds in the instructions but my unit is about a minute, which I like.)

The Dorcy/Mr. Beams works for my needs and turns out to be a nice product if you need a battery operated security light. Keep in mind that the light is generated by LED, so don't expect too much. But the light it does put out is surprisingly pretty darn good once it gets dark. I'm glad I can now recommend this product and I think you will be happy too (IF you get one that works the first time around.)

2nd Update It's now August 2013 and the light still works as described. It rains here in Seattle, but the light doesn't seem to be affected by it. I have it mounted under an eve, so I'm sure that helps. I checked it last night and it came on as bright as day one. I haven't changed the batteries in two years, so that's very encouraging...and it appears Amazon has changed their return policy and made it even easier. Now all you have to do is get a return authorization online and UPS comes to your door and collects the package within a day or two. How easy is that!

I mounted my MB371 above my double door shed entrance (facing down) in the back yard. The rear of my property is pretty dark and just beyond my lot is a soybean farm so there is little to no light back there at night time. The great thing about having the remote is I can control when the light turns on before I leave my house (from the rear sliding door), the range is actually pretty good on the remote. The back yard is so dark that this spotlight kicks off enough light for me to see a 15-foot radius before approaching the double door. I have more than enough light to see the lock and not have to fumble with my keys in the dark. Actually when inside the shed the MB371 puts out just enough ambient light outside of the shed to see what I'm doing inside the shed. If you are a home owner with a yard or a shed, you need one of these.
