12 feet is not a lot of length for a string of lights. I bought these to stretch along the length of ceiling in my bedroom and they didn't even go the entire length. The construction is extremely cheap, you can tell that everything was put together with as little cost as possible. The plastic of the plugs, sockets, and bulbs is extremely lightweight, and I sincerely doubt the long-term integrity of the lights. However, if you need something for outside and you're not worried about that sort of thing, these are probably just the lights for you.The packaging is also not made for duration. It was rather cheap cardboard, and the lights were just mashed inside the box, with a few of them attached to a card in the rough outline of a christmas tree. Every other string of lights I have ever bought have had the plastic "skeleton" that the lights attach to, in order to keep the wires from tangling. There is no reason to keep this box.
Honestly I have no idea if I'd buy another string of these. They (barely) do the job I bought them to do, and again it's probably my fault for underestimating the length of lights I'd need for the application I bought them for, but 12 feet is a distressingly short length for a string of lights like this.
The thing I'd be most concerned with regarding these lights is if there was any sort of power surge, or cut in the shielding that caused it to heat up unnecessarily. It seems that it could be a potential fire hazard. In the future I think I'll probably be more willing to pony up and pay the price for higher quality lights. I'm certain there are a lot of great uses for these lights, but do be warned that they are not the highest quality and should be considered, for all intents and purposes, "disposable."
