To try to remove some subjectivity from this so future customers can get a sense of how bright this is, it illuminates the cab well enough to read with ease, anywhere -front seats, jumpseat area, even outside the door if your eyes are accustomed to dim light. It projects at 180° and thus isn't safe to flip on while driving. If you're wanting to replace reading lights near the dash, obtain a narrow-beam LED instead. Another consideration for how to use these is off-grid lighting, where it would help to light a small room -say 8x12 feet -brightly enough to see objects, avoid tripping, and read with some effort. Its power consumption is very slightly over 3W -measured at 0.26A.
The color temperature is a bit cool, in the 6500°K range. If you're wanting the yellow look of a heater that also gives off some light, this one will appear somewhat bluish to you. I'll gladly take that to have ample interior light that easily illuminates everywhere in the cab, not just a disappointing dim puddle directly below the dome.
As another reviewer mentioned, this panel runs cool enough (3W spread out over a couple square inches) that there's no risk to melting the dome light diffuser. I can hold it in my hand while it's running; it's a bit warm but nothing ridiculous. As a dome light, I simply set it facing downward on the diffuser and snapped it back in place. It comes with 3M double-stick foam backing, but I'm not using that in the dome light.
Update 2013-Apr-10: I finally got around to installing the second one in the camper top to replace the head-endangering interior incandescent strip light. I should have done this long ago. I stuck this LED panel to the ceiling of the camper top using the supplied tape, and it's working great. I put a switch in-line to complete the update. I'm pleased about this since it's so easy to position for specific tasks; in this case, it illuminates the tailgate so food prep, hand-washing and so on are easy.

The lights work great and after replacing all the lights in my RV with these LED's the amp's measured off the battery dropped by 70%. If using the slim line plug it is cheap will take a little work. 7 out of ten lights didn't work and required me to mess with the way the wires stick out of the plug to have it make contact. They are bright enough to read by and will extend my battery life from 2 to about 5 days.Best Deals for NEEWER® T10 36 SMD LED Light Festoon Dome Bulb Lamp White 12V

I haven't had a chance to test these out in actual camping conditions, but they installed easily, seem to have the same brightness as the incandescent type, and amp draw is a fraction. Work fine parked in my driveway. Time will tell whether they work well in the long run.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for NEEWER® T10 36 SMD LED Light Festoon Dome Bulb Lamp White 12V
36 LEDs so it is a very bright white. Cheap and shipped fast.It comes with a connector for 194 bulb sockets, festoon sockets, and I'm not sure what the last one is..T10?
Mine came with an adhesive backing on the panel.
Measure the space before buying to make sure it fits. It fit fine on my 97 chevy truck
