Perhaps you're new to this style of bulb like myself. Here's a bit of what I discovered:

True, this lamp is rated 40w, but if you swap it for an existing standard 40w incandescent, you'll notice a decrease in observed light.

The light itself is a very warm tone, more yellowish in color than most incandescents.

Although the light output isn't the highest to begin with, the filament is stunning when the bulb is paired with a dimmer.

Once dimmed, the individual filament windings become more visible and the bulb itself takes on a striking artful presence.

From my understanding, a dimmer will also help extend the life of incandescent bulbs, which is a good thing when they're as nice as this!

Don't be fooled into buying this for a much higher price. (As of this writing, the alternate listing for the same product is nearly a hundred dollars more!)

It's a great looking bulb, highly recommended for a unique update to the otherwise mundane--but don't needlessly overpay.

I have a home built in the 30's and I try to remain true to the era since much is original. I have a hall light fixture that allows the bulb to be seem thru glass. This bulb looks so beautiful instead of a normal bulb or the totally ugly twisty ones. I'll give up a little energy efficiency for the beauty. It is pricey but it's a hall so the light isn't on for long periods.

Got these bulbs to replace the regular bulbs in a floor lamp. They fit perfect but are by no means very bright, which is what I expected. I only wanted these for "mood" lighting so I am very pleased with them. Have received nothing but compliments. Great price, shipping and packaging.

These lights are a conversational piece in our home, frequently gets compliments we love the way they look.

They are used more for mood lighting than any practical light the lower power, and orange tint makes them somewhat impractical so definitely form over function if you buy them. I would by again.
