I have a three level deck with a large, gnarly tree trunk, separating the levels. The foliage is lost, above the roof. I wanted to decorate the trunk, which seemed so bare, but showed promise. Fairy lights was my way to embrace the tree's spirit, so to speak. I consider it tree make-up.

First off, it's important to follow the instructions and to fully charge the system, then check it out to make sure it's working, then do the stringing. I know, I'm an immediate gratification person, too, but this will solve many of the complaints reported by reviewers.

After a full charge, my lights were literally dusk to dawn, but I'm in the blaring sun of TX, so your situation may be different. In the last couple of days, it has been drizzling and overcast. I turned the switch to blinking (which extends the life of the battery) and still have had, at least, 5 hours of light --even with very limited solar rejuvenation.

I'm enjoying these lights, enough, that I'm preparing to purchase more. I know some feel that outdoor lights should be limited to Christmas. I have to ask, why. If you love the festivity of lights and just want to sit outside to commune, and medicate with the dark of night --go for it. Celebrate the 'free-child,' within.

Remember, you will need 'sun.' It's why they're called 'solar lights.' So, don't be disappointed, if you are in a sunshine free zone, for a while. You might want to opt for a different system.

First set quit after one night, second lasted two nights. It rained, they got wet, quit. Sadly, they were really pretty. UPDATE: I still have not returned these. I thought it really strange that when they dried out, they started working again. So I changed out the batteries and put a plastic bag over it for protection (saw this on another review) and so far they are working fine. I have a couple more weeks before the return window closes, so if I don't put anything else in this review it means they are still working. Like I said, they are very bright and pretty. I changed from 1 to 3 stars because I had to change batteries -at my cost -but I could have returned them and reordered, and it wouldn't have cost me anything extra. One of the benefits of shopping with Amazon.

The cost? Twenty-ish bucks. The installation? Ridiculously easy. The effect? Absolutely enchanting! These lights are so beautiful, with a warm white color that rivals the look of regular white lights but thanks to the ingenious addition of solar charging, you can put these practically anywhere without having to mess with a tangle of cords and wires and plugs. I placed these in a remote area of our garden and they add just the right touch of sparkle, with a generous 55-foot length to let you string them anywhere to your heart's content. It literally took me five minutes to put the solar charger together, and even with just a few hours' sunlight, they held a full charge on the very first day and added delight to the night. UPDATE: I did indeed order my second set, and they arrived right on time. What was really cool is that they were already partially charged (the other ones may have been too; didn't think to check), so they started sparkling right away, right out of the box. Several people have seen these lights in my garden and have commented on how pretty they are and asked where they can get their own. If you have any doubts about these lovely lights, cast them aside and place your order. They are the real deal absolutely gorgeous, and so convenient and easy to set up you won't be disappointed.

I purchased these lights because I planned on using them on a 11 foot tall pine in my front yard. I wanted something that is solar powered since the tree is so far from the house. The lights charge up great, turn on when it gets dark out and stay lit throughout the night. However, one string is not long enough for the pine and the lights are not bringht enough to shine through the dense pine tree so I ended up putting them on a dogwood tree and they look very nice. Also, just as a side note the color is more ice blue than white.
