Needs to be shaken a lot to work. Perhaps mine is defective, but it seems for the price we might be asking a lot in terms of quality. When you shake it (with or without batteries) there are clearly many rickety parts. It is completely waterproof, and does float. However, having to shake it every 10 seconds to get it working means I dont care about the other benefits. If I drop it and it goes out I wont find the thing regardless.
The plastic is thin and cheap which may contribute to low weight but doesnt inspire confidence. When it did work I noticed it wasnt any brighter than a 20 year old Eveready lantern with incandescent bulbs running on a 6 volt battery. I see no reason to keep this in the house or in a car. Forget putting it with camping gear or an emergency kit or important building that sees rough weather. No way I'd trust my life to it. Even for folks that dont need good light, they should eat least want reliable light, and this isnt it. I can get the same level of light with a cheap AA stick light and its also sturdier.

This LED lantern was purchased as emergency equipment for our boat. It is lightweight (and it really does float) and is much brighter than I expected. I hope I never have to use it for its intended purpose, but it is great to have aboard!
