I spent quite a bit of time researching these before purchase. I absolutely love them. Finally a book light that lights up the whole page! We use them all the time. We find it handy to attach them to a heavy coffee mug and more them around our work areas. Love them.

So, we're all readers in this house, and most of us prefer to read novels in bed. And that would be all well and good if we kept the same reading schedules or if I were not a night owl happily-ready to read till dawn, while my spouse enjoys less enthusiasm for night reading. But my eyes have gotten to where I need both reading specs AND good light for lengthy reading and a reading lamp is not going to work with my spouse's sleep needs.

Enter book lights. I tried the bulb type. They aren't bright enough. They don't diffuse to cover both pages. And they chew through another set of batteries every 3-4 hours. You can go through a package before you finish a Neal Stephenson book and wind up spending more on batteries than on the book!

I've also tried several single-bulb LED types. The single LED types generally use 3 AG44 or similar coin batteries which generally run a bit over $1 per battery, but they will power the LED 4 times as long as my AA alkaline cells powered my bulb type. And they are generally bright enough to be usable, if not completely comfortable. But the neck for the lamp is generally too short to get enough distance for the beam to cover both pages. I've tried the 2-necked 2-LED book lamps and, if one crosses them so they illuminate the opposite page, they deliver acceptable coverage, but the light is darker and uneven on the page corners, and the necks often interrupt the line of sight when reading, which gets very annoying over time. Still, this type proves to be good for reading from music on a music stand.

BUT, this is my favorite book light for many reasons. It has a VERY long neck, which enables you to position the bulbs well off the subject and out of the line of site so that the entire reading surface is illuminated. It has *6* LED bulbs and 2 intensities making for a very evenly-lighted surface, no obstructed vision, no reflection, and the ability to greatly minimize the spread of light beyond your reading area, which might otherwise disturb your SO. I also find having a low beam for near complete darkness and a hi-beam for partially lit settings works out wonderfully. And the clip is both generous and strong enough to grasp a tablet, shelf, e-reader, or book. And the hi-beam I even use to move around comfortably and safely in darkness without having to stumble in the dark or awaken my SO. AND, to top all that, it takes either inexpensive alkaline cells or rechargeable batteries and gets long life from them, too. Best of all, when my spouse saw mine and wanted to borrow (keep) it, this package came with 2, so I was already prepared and didn't have to sacrifice *my* reading light for the sake of my marriage. Trust me, if you 'lend' this light to anyone, you are going to NEED that backup unit, so Amazon is simply saving you time, aggravation, and postage.

Just buy a package already, and nonchalantly hand one to your SO next time you see them nose-deep in a book, and tell them you'll order another one for yourself. Go ahead and pickup a few packs of rechargeable AAA batteries and a recharger while you're at it and you're good to go for several years at less than the price of a few months of alkaline batteries to feed those other cheapo lights.

Great price on a pair of lights complete with batteries. We use both to illuminate a two page music notebook (a single lamp did not quite reach both edges. These do not have the external power jack most of the mighty lites for music use do. Just remember to keep spare AAAs in your gear bag.
