I have purchased ~5 of these most as gifts. They are awesome! Well worth the extra $. Best head lamp I have ever owned (Including multiple Pellican and Petzel models). Its comfortable to wear, very light weight, and it doesn't bite into your forehead after extended use. I have actually worn it for hours on end and forgot I had it on. It doesn't get hot while wearing it (even with the light on the brightest setting it only get a little warm on your forehead since it is LED). The broad light pattern is very even and free of hot spots. Illumination is bright clean and even out to the illumination edges. It covers the full field of vision for working with your hands, close to your body very well. On the brightest setting it still throws a very useful pattern of light as much as 50-100 feet ahead of you (I have actually used it as a biking light at night with very good effect). The light body pivots 360 degrees so you can point the light further up or down depending on what you are doing. The battery life is pretty good ~2hrs on the highest setting and ~50hrs on low setting it meets or exceeds the published specs. On the lowest setting it gives plenty of light to be useful in situations where a little light goes a long way like a crawl space or attic, or reading in bed. It is a no-brainer to use...twist up the side knob to make it brighter and twist down to dim or turn off it is just like a dimmer switch. You can also wear it left or right handed so no special model is needed for lefties.
I have used this light with great results for all manner of things including: reading in bed, removing splinters, BBQ'ing at night, working on the car, night bike rides, working under the sink/in the crawl space/in the attic/in the basement, setting up goose decoys before sunrise, poking around in the dark closet, loading/unloading cargo from vehicles in the dark, setting up outside Christmas decorations after dark, moving around the campsite in the woods after dark, cooking during a power outage, remodeling/handyman work, plus about a million other times when I needed good light and my hands free but most important it is perfect for generally making my friends ultra jealous! Perhaps the truest measure of usefullness & quality!
Surefire did an awesome job designing this product! Normally, they make top notch tactical gear, but this little light has so many uses, it is way beyond tactical...I think everyone from SWAT teams to workmen to doctors, nurses, mechanics, and grandmothers would use the heck out of this awesome little LED head light, and be pleased as punch to do it. Surefire out did themselves!

I purchased this light to replace a smaller Princeton unit I had been using for the past 2 years. I already own 2 other Surefire flashlights and have found their performance to be outstanding so I had high expectations of the Saint Minimus headlamp. On my first venture with this light I used it for a total of about 20 hours and went through 3 batteries. I have to admit is uses batteries faster than my Princeton unit, but the brightness can not be compared. I used this outdoors in Utica NY at the end of January, 2011 and it was COLD! The CR123 lithium battery really helped as I loaned my Princeton unit to someone else and it was quite dim with just regular AAA batteries. This light, is light, secure, stays whre you point it and seems to be very well built. I use a headlamp like this because I need light while working with both hands in cramped spaces. I said I had high expectations, and they were met. I would recommend this to anyone who demands a lot out of their tools and expects good performance from them.Comfort: A+

Ditto the first review. I saw my first one at Blade Show 2010 in Atlanta. Ordered one. Got it in hand and immediately ordered another. Waterproof to 3' for 30 minutes, lightweight, great light output and rugged construction.Honest reviews on Surefire Saint Minimus Headlamp
Okay, big bucks; typical surefire quality. Love just turning the dial to get whatever level of brightness I want. Can just barely turn it on inside a tent or camping hammock but other than that you'll want to use it wide open which means you need to like CR123 batteries. They're expensive, have a 10 year shelf life and work well in cold. I have a number of quality flashlights that run on CR123 so I'm prepared to buy those batteries in bulk on the internet to save. The head band is comfortable and the curved part that goes on your forehead is VERY comfortable. Adjusting the aim of the beam is good. It's VERY bright and a good flood. I do notice yellow round the edge of the light field which surprised me; barely but noticeable. I do think there should be a more noticeable CLICK or resistance when you turn the know from off to on. You really don't feel anything. They should add that feature. It'll help prevent accidently turning it on and then they should add some kind of resistance at the midway point so you know you're midway. It's heavier than the cheap Enegizer (from Walmart) headlamps I've used for years but it's very comfortable and far brighter. I like that it comes with a red pop on lense cover so you can walk to your deer stand in the morning without spooking game. I also like that it's "really" water proof to a depth of so many feet for so many minutes. For the Ultralight backpacker this may be a bit too heavy for you. For the rest of this backpackers I feel this light is almost bulletproof. I can actually see a soldier or LEO wearing this thing. As for the cost? I do think it's expensive for what you get. I think you'll be able to get it for under $100 soon enough as it's still somewhat new in the market place. I looked at all kinds of lamps before settling on this. I wanted serious gear that would literally be the last headlamp I buy and I think I've found it. Add the few minor changes I suggested and you're a a 5+ star rating.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Surefire Saint Minimus Headlamp
The goodbest light spread of any headlamp I have had. Simple rugged design. Bright-on High anywaythe badI cant seem to get over an hour of use on high and then it starts blinking the low battery signal, which then repeats at shorter and shorter intervals which is extremely annoying when trying to get something done. Obviously i would know if the battery is going dead by noticing the light dimming (i wish the chip would just keep dimming the light down a notch when the battery gets lower). Plus i like to get ALL of the life out of my batterynot just the 75% of good voltage. Yeah i could just dim the light down and make the battery last longer but then my 15 dollar energizer is just as bright and lasts way longer. I take my energizers apart and fill them with silicone so i have never had a problem getting headlamps wet
-the batteries are expensive and are only available online and at sporting goods storeswouldnt be an issue except i have to change them several times on hiking trips-which is annoying as i have to stop and rummage through my bag while my buddies watch with their cheap headlamps that go forever on AAA batteries (found at any store)
-I have had the headlamp turn on in my bag and drain the battery
-very expensive light when compared to zebralight/fenix etc
Overall I love the headlamp when it is strapped to my head and im hiking in the dark.....or feeding the chickens after dark...but then the moment is ruined as the light starts blinking after only about an hour of use.
